Pope to Muslims: Sorry if you’re offended Update: British Muslim papers threaten

posted at 2:23 pm on September 16, 2006 by Allahpundit

It’s one of those non-apology apologies, like “sorry you’re too stupid to understand.”

Sorry you’re so sensitive and eager for pretexts to justify violence:

Pope Benedict XVI is “extremely upset” that Muslims have been offended by some of his words in a recent speech in Germany, the Vatican said on Saturday.

The new Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, said that the Pope’s position on Islam is unmistakably in line with Vatican teaching that the Church “esteems Muslims, who adore the only God.”

Thus, the Pope is “extremely upset that some portions of his speech were able to sound offensive to the sensibilities of Muslim believers and have been interpreted in a way that does not at all correspond to his intentions,” Bertone said in a statement.

Aren’t we all.

Your quote of the day:

The Taliban statement said the pope had “shamelessly said the respected Prophet Mohammed brought nothing but violence”.

Five churches were attacked last night in the realm of Islam’s Chosen People.

Meanwhile, one of our readers in the UK sends along this graphic from Sky News. Bear in mind that Sky is the British equivalent of Fox, so their viewers skew conservative. But not this conservative:

The boss has a graphic of the Pope that’s being circulated in jihadist circles. Muslihoon was kind enough to translate it. Here’s what it says:

popeqaeda.jpg

الخنزير عابد الصلبان
The pig, worshiper of the crosses

يعبد قردا مسلوخا على صليب
He worships a slaughtered monkey on a cross

حاقد خبيث
Malicious, repulsive/evil

شيطان رجيم
An accursed devil

إذبحوه
Sacrifice him/Behead him

لعنة الله عليه
May the curse of God be upon him

سفاح مصاص للدماء
Spiller and sucker of blood

For your Saturday afternoon amusement. It’s hard out there for a human…

Nonsense, the Pope should show no regret. The fact that those wild-ass radical Muslims are running around screaming and threatening everyone simply tends to validate the Pope’s criticism. Unfortunately, the pandering, leftist US press is either unable or unwilling to recognize this fact

rplat on September 16, 2006 at 2:37 PM

Wow, the Muslims are offended. Who cares? They can dish it out but they can’t take it. The lefty press tells us who are Catholic that a Crucifix in urine & a Virgin Mary made out of dung and we need to put up and shut up. I think they all need to heed their own advice. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. They just don’t like being the gander.

Catie96706 on September 16, 2006 at 2:42 PM

wish we had a preview key-should read “made out of dung, we’re told that that is art”

Catie96706 on September 16, 2006 at 2:43 PM

Doesn’t This call for a drink?

Sitting beneath a portrait of his dead daughter on the wall, Mr al-Azzam kept murmuring “it is the will of Allah” as he chose his words carefully, eager not to cause offence to any of the parties.

Also prominent on the wall were portraits of the assassinated Hamas leaders Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and Abdel-Aziz al-Rantissi.

Damn straight skippy! Offend the Religion of Peace, and you’ll join your daughter in death, no questions asked.

Nothing but thugs and punks.

SilverStar830 on September 16, 2006 at 2:50 PM

The Pope, in an act rare for a leader, has called a spade a spade. Makes me proud to be Catholic. If he folds I’ll be disappointed.

MikeG on September 16, 2006 at 2:51 PM

Sure, muslims are whoopin’ it up during pre-ramadan festivities. It’s party time! Jiiiiiiii-had!

Kim Hartveld on September 16, 2006 at 2:52 PM

This is only the latest in a continuing Muslim outrage at even the slightest percieved insult to Islam – and all the while they are free to degrade anyone else without even the slightest remorse. The Muslim “outrage at insult” is a one way street and will continue unabated for the indefinite future at even lesser and lesser catalyist.

I look forward to when more and more in the west, especially in the United States, has less and less sensitivity to the Muslim’s anger at any percieved insult. I feel pity and sympathy for the citizens of the EU who do not have the courage, backbone, determination and wisdom to stand up to the Islamofacist as their culture is destoyed and distorted – and their freedoms are reduced.

We really are witnessing, and are a part of, the next world war – and it is a continuation of an age old conflict with Islam and the rest of the world. Our biggest weakness in this ongoing/coming conflict is our own left, the politically correct moonbat who depends on the courage and wisdom of others to maintain their freedom.

The Israeli’s know to deal with the Islamofacist – In their face on every issue, at every time, with overwhelming force – this is the only thing they relate to. Any attempts at “negotiation” with the Islamofacist are an illusion – anyone who is not Muslim is the “infidel” and it is condoned and encouraged to lie, steal, cheat and treat the “infidel” with complete contempt.

The Islamofacist attack on the Pope and Christians is going to wear thin quickly with many – and I look forward to a Western response of aggressive, direct, decisive confrontation with the Islamofacist on every issue, at every time, in every place.

Get used to this state of affairs, it is not going away and will continue with increasing frequency and intensity leading to armed conflict. The only reason we are not at war now is that the Islamofacist does not have the military, especially nuclear, forces and arsenal to even consider open warfare.

omegaram on September 16, 2006 at 3:01 PM

Sorry MikeG,

but this sounds like folding to me:

the Pope’s position on Islam is unmistakably in line with Vatican teaching that the Church “esteems Muslims, who adore the only God.”

The Allah of Islam is not The Living God.

ScottG on September 16, 2006 at 3:05 PM

Someone should have the backbone to tell these pedofile supporting extremists to go frack themselves.

You don’t win a battle by asking for permission to kill the murderers of innocent people. You win by killing them before they kill you.

DannoJyd on September 16, 2006 at 3:30 PM

The Misunderstood Muslims are right, if you look close enough you’ll notice the Swastikas on the Pope’s funny hat.

Niko on September 16, 2006 at 3:41 PM

The Jerusalem Post has a great article on what the Pope actually said and his backing by European leaders here. But the best part is this quote by a priest in Beirut:

“It is high time that Islam deal with modernity; not to be swallowed up by it, but rather to take what good it has to offer and improve on it.”

.

ScottG, the Allah of Islam, the Yaweh of the Jews and the God of the Christians, are essentially the same. Muslims stem from a disenfranchised group of Jews that strayed leaving their religion behind for centuries, until they stumbled onto Mohammed.

The differences among the definitons of God are that Christians had Jesus as the messiah(and hence part of God), the Jews/Muslim see him as a prophet and not part of God, b/c a) God would not stoop down to human level and b)messiah is supposed to be this glorious god-like warrior.

Funny thing about all of this is that the messiah the Jews and the Muslims are waiting for is what Christians call (and are too waiting for) the second-coming of Christ.

In any case, saying you are sorry someone was offended does not equate being sorry for your statements. It flatly puts the blame on the offended Muslims, not on the Pope – which is why the “offended ones” are still well “offended”.

Has anybody noticed that the muslims in America are not rioting?

Neither now nor during the cartoon rampage.

I’ve been wondering why.

Is it lack of madrasses? The fact they’ve mostly assimilated in our culture? They share our 21st Century mindset and not the 7th Century one of the middle ease?

I remember when Saddam fell, the video of arabs rejoicing in the streets of ….. DETROIT!

Clearly, the vast majority of them are with us — and not with the raging clerics of Islamabad, Beruit, and Damascus.

Maybe our voices should be raised AT THE LEFTSTREAM MEDIA which is trying to undermine the west through their clear propaganda campaign aimed at undermining our national resolve by siding with the islamofascist bullies.

So when is Sir Elton going to do a remake of ” Bennie and the Jesuits” to raise money for the Swiss Guard Defense League?

bbz123 on September 16, 2006 at 5:13 PM

georgej, I think this is yet another indicator that the current main battlefront for jihad is not the US, but Europe. But please, don’t tell the Europeans. We wouldn’t want them to actually wake up and do anything, now would we?

Squid Vicious on September 16, 2006 at 5:15 PM

I really, really, really despise muslims. I do not doubt that some nutbag muslim somewhere is planning an attack on the Vatican now. The U.S., NATO and others aligned with the west in this war against fanatical fascism have awesome firepower. I wish we’d use it.

tickleddragon, I’m trying to take short notes with the most deranged slur I could come up with, and see if days (or mere hours) later they’re being reflected in “newspapers” in the Arab world. So far, I’m only leading this close.

Niko on September 16, 2006 at 5:59 PM

This would be a good time for the Pope, and other Christians to suggest to these angry Muslims that they could live a much happier life if they would become Christian; Show a little love for others, tolerance for those they disagree with, forgive their enemies.

There is no need for all this hate, anger, and discontent.

Kini on September 16, 2006 at 7:04 PM

georgej,

Has anybody noticed that the muslims in America are not rioting?

Neither now nor during the cartoon rampage.

The fact that there has not been rioting cannot be construed as

Clearly, the vast majority of them are with us — and not with the raging clerics of Islamabad, Beruit, and Damascus.

I invite you instead to look at the numbers – until the numbers of Muslims in this country allow these public temper tantrums, as we saw outside of Paris, these folks will lie low. Observant Muslims would be biding their time, waiting for conditions of victory. Non observant Muslims would be at best, neutral. Immigration and relatively fast population growth has allowed Islamic takeover of Scandinavian cities and Parisian suburbs where defacto Shar’ia law is observed. Notice the Muslims are vocal where they are protected by numbers. While some may have assimilated and “be with us”, I would not bank on it.

Read Robert Spencer’s Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and the Crusades before breathing any too easy.
This shit fit throwing on the part of Muslims has worked, and will continue. CAIR is working hard in this country to lay the foundation, and as numbers increase, the structure will go up. The end result of raising one religious group above all others with respect to criticism, satire, or ridicule is dhimmitude. I pray this Pope does not kneel to this backward, misguided, evil political system.

skeeter on September 16, 2006 at 7:41 PM

georgej, I think it’s basically because they don’t have the numbers here to do what they do to the Eurocowards. I also think it’s because most people who come here, muslim or no, want to be Americans, which also isn’t the case in Europe. I mean, seriously, why would anyone move to a European country with the intention of assimilating? Do they really want to be a part of a nation that hasn’t really been worthwhile in over a century?

Anyway, I’m glad Benedict did what he did instead of really apologizing. It brings a smile to my face to know that the Pope did exactly what I would have done in that situation. Although, I would have been a little more blunt in saying that I was sorry that you were offended, not sorry that I said something that offended you.

Wolfman on September 16, 2006 at 8:11 PM

ScottG, the Allah of Islam, the Yaweh of the Jews and the God of the Christians, are essentially the same.

That’s the claim that’s put out, however, reading the Text’s show’s it’s not true. It’s been said elsewhere that’s of all Allah’s names given in the Koran, not one of them is Love. The Bible says God is Love. Allah isn’t Love, Allah isn’t God.

ScottG on September 16, 2006 at 8:15 PM

I don’t get this debate about our god vs. their god. I frankly don’t care who they’re worshipping – our god, their god, or even L. Ron Hubbard, for that matter. All I care about is that they stop blowing shit up and flying airplanes into tall buildings. I think theological disputes just cloud and irritate the situation.

Squid Vicious on September 16, 2006 at 8:39 PM

Funny thing about all of this is that the messiah the Jews and the Muslims are waiting for is what Christians call (and are too waiting for) the second-coming of Christ.

Actually, Al-Mahdi, the twelfth and final imam, is supposed to come with Jesus and behead all the Jews in Israel. Sounds like more of an antichrist character to me. Jesus said in Matthew 7 speaking on false prophets , “You shall know them by their fruits.”

Somehow liberal apologists look past the plunder, lying, and beheadings to see a religion of peace under a shared God. Allah is to Yahweh as the moon is to the sun.

Valiant on September 16, 2006 at 8:56 PM

The Pope tells the truth and the Muslims prove it.

The Pope’s “apology” seemed to say, “I’m sorry you have chosen to be offended by my statements and my reading of that pertinent quote.” A clever apology without apologizing.

MuSlimes lack both reason and the ability to use logic. Their thirst for bloodshed and death defines them. Islam is the spawn of satan.

The Pope understands that Islam is not a religion in the generally accepted sense.

No surprise here, the NYT is in lockstep with the Islamofascists demanding an apology.

If the sandal fits.

Tony737 on September 16, 2006 at 11:44 PM

The issue with Islam is not their religious beliefs – it is that they demand that every human be either:

1) Muslim
2) Slave
3) Dead

Let the Muslim believe whatever they wish and worship as they wish. The problem with Islam is that they demand that others believe as they do and that once a Muslim they remain so or they are killed. Islamofacism is not about religion as much as it is about inflicting their beliefs and culture on others.

Our biggest weakness is not fighting an enemy such as the Islamofacist – it is the Left that divides us and promotes “Multiculturalism” and “Diversity”. Instead of Unity, Common Values, Common Language and Identification as United States Citizens the Left promotes identifiction in some social, racial, or ethnic group.

Small wonder that Air America and the New York Times are experiencing declining interst and revenues. I hope that more see the Left as the weakness for the United States as it really is.

omegaram on September 16, 2006 at 11:45 PM

As for muslims in America. Yes, we have patriotic American muslims but we also have those who are muslim first. We don’t have riots because (as stated above) they don’t have the numbers yet. Their warrior-prophet teaches them not to attack until they have the upper hand.

They do have a better chance to become loyal Americans than Euro-muzzies because, for example, if you move from, say Turkey to Sweden, you don’t become Swedish because Swedish is a nationality. But if you move from Yemen to America, you become an American. Maybe they do become REAL Americans and take our side but keep quite about it so as to see another sunrise.
