Brilliant, ladies! Do more like this!!!
To expand on your point, MKH, in addition to not knowing radical Islam or Christians, Rosie also has a tenuous grasp on history. Peace has been won through war countless times in history. To quote Protest Warrior: “Except for ending Slavery, Fascism, Nazism and Communism, WAR HAS NEVER SOLVED ANYTHING.”
Keep up the great work, HA team!

Great Vent. Nice to hear women on TV speaking SENSE, instead of NONsense. Now, we need to get Bethany and Kirsten Powers on there, and you’ll have an exact counterpoint to “The Spew”.
DakRoland on September 14, 2006 at 8:21 AM
I agree with DakRoland; bring on Bethany and KP!
Great job, ladies!
And thanks for casually running your finger through your hair. ;)

Rosie, don’t loose your head!
Wander on September 14, 2006 at 8:48 AM
Nicely done ladies! I wonder if Rosie sees the irony of two church going Christian American women defending gays…
You know, it seems that the right has become much more tolerant than the left.
Babs on September 14, 2006 at 8:54 AM
I like this format… Michelle seems more amiable when she’s talking to a person instead of a green screen.
Regarding Michelle’s point about Rosie (as a woman and a lesbian) being more threatened by Islamic terrorists than anyone else… that applies in Saudi Arabia for sure — but here? I think they’re more a threat to her life than her sexuality or her gender — unless, that is, terrorists start targeting gay bars and nail salons.
Obviously it’s wrong to say that radical Christianity is as much of a threat as radical Islam. But in terms of the ability to institutionalize religion-based bigotry, Christianity goes unmatched in this country. There simply aren’t enough Muslims in this country to make them responsible for any anti-gay anti-woman issues. I don’t know if that’s what Rosie was saying… she’s an incredibly stupid and hot-headed person, so probably not.

My bumper sticker is a remedial student at Liberal Elementary School.
Mark Jaquith on September 14, 2006 at 9:10 AM
I don’t know the figures of gays and lesbians killed in 9/11, Mark, but I’m sure it out-numbers any count you could come up in total for murders committed simply because someone was gay. And, I would point out that it would be a phenomenally rare ‘hate crime’ against gays perpertrated by religious people. Most are by what someone like you would describe as ‘ignorant rednecks’ and/or ’skinheads’, hardly the most religious of people.
Of course, you are more to welcome to try to list examples otherwise; but please don’t drag out the abortion clinic cases, because that is a different kettle of fish (and the violence against them is condemned by all but a tiny fringe element of the religious community).
Unquestionably, much of the religious community does not support homosexuality and considers it a sin. That is not bigotry; it is a difference of opinion. And- last time I checked- the PC police have not yet achieved the necessary alterations to the Constitution to make that the crime they want it to be.

More, please.
Pablo on September 14, 2006 at 9:26 AM
Simply brilliant, ladies!
Greg Tinti on September 14, 2006 at 9:29 AM
True, but there’s that “Love the sinner, hate the sin” component of Christ’s teachings that seems to be lacking from Mohammed’s. Christians don’t want to kill gays, they want them to stop being gay.
This being America, you can denounce anything you like, and you don’t get protection from that because you’re gay, black, adopted, female, unemployed, a blasphemer or the President of the United States. But everyone has the same rights and liberties and no one can impose punishment or corrective action on anyone else because their religion tells them to. Then there’s Islam, where death is the appropriate answer to many such problems. There’s an ocean of difference in that and someone ought to push Rosie into it and see if she floats.
Pablo on September 14, 2006 at 9:34 AM
Mark, yeah, I don’t think Rosie was making that point, though it would have been a much more reasonable one. But, to your point, I think to find anything in America that would deserve the label “radical Christianity,” you have to move on down the line to the Fred Phelps loons and abortion clinic bombers. Both of those types are almost universally reviled, by Christians and non-Christians alike, and they have no political power.
The people who do have sway are evangelical Christians–reasonable, religious Americans who differ with liberals on the issue of gay marriage, but who go about expressing that difference of opinion with protest marches, ballot initiatives and constitutional amendments.
Is there some bigotry toward homosexuals out there in America? Yes, but to give executions and stonings in the Muslim world a pass while reviling those who collect signatures and protest abortion is pretty ridiculous. And, given the creep of sharia in European countries where a rising Muslim population meets up with moral equivalence like Rosie’s, her attitude is pretty short-sighted.
marykatharine on September 14, 2006 at 9:36 AM
Yeah, I have no problem with Rosie taking shots at Christians for anti-homosexual bigotry. I take them myself (and I’m a Christian). But comparing it to extreme Islam’s threat — whether the global threat of violence or the extremely illiberal caliphate imposed on women, homosexuals (and well, everyone) in the Muslim world — is just flat-out ignorant.
I know it’s horrible and not at all becoming, but I find that repeating the following calms me quite a bit: she’s fat, she’s ugly, she’s obnoxious, her voice is whiny and grating, and no one will ever love her. See, I feel better already.
Mark Jaquith on September 14, 2006 at 9:56 AM
EXCELLENT MM and MKH!!!
As a woman who is a reformed Democrat, I havent watched that snarky show in YEARS. If there was a show on like this Vent (of course with MM&MKH!) I would be watching while working and taping it when I travelled.
The fact that Rosie gets cheered when she makes these STUPID comments is dismaying BUT if the “View” was filmed in a Red State, she wouldnt get the same reaction. SOMEONE would stand up and challenge her.
labwrs on September 14, 2006 at 10:02 AM
“prett short-sighted”??
you are being too kind to this frothing product of the Liberal media machine.

Wonderful format. ladies….. a real plus for Hot Air
As far as Red Rosie….well, she has the DNC talking points down pat. Evil Christians, moral equvilance, big lies that Joesph Goebbles could be proud of, red Americans are bigots, racist. beer swilling fools… Ya know, the whole Dean/Kos enchilada.
What REALLY sent a chill up my spine me was the applase that Rosie got for her remark, and that no one spoke up and said anything. Very frightening.
What if Rosie had substituted “Gays” instead of ” “Radical Christians” in her rant…would Rosie even have a job this morning?

What a great vent and reaction to Rosie’s rant. And Michelle and MKH together (pinch me, I must be dreaming). Wow. I agree, get Bethany and KP on and you would have and awesome lineup.
vcferlita on September 14, 2006 at 10:04 AM
Non-support may not be bigotry, but wanting to keep civil unions a strictly heterosexual affair goes beyond non-support. That’s inequality under the law… benefits withheld from two people because of their gender.
Maybe Bill will have Michelle and KP on the factor to talk about gay rights again and we can dive into this deeper. I find it quite a refreshing and calming diversion from the usual terrorism/extreme Islam/zany Democrats stuff.
Mark Jaquith on September 14, 2006 at 10:05 AM

MRegine on September 14, 2006 at 10:34 AM
Ursa, and others, I beg to differ on the reaction to stupidity. That delightful creature Elisabeth (sigh) tore into the fat one, and the dyed red one also bitch slapped her.
The only silent response was Baba, and I think she was drunk…again. So…not so bad, really.
And not to hijack the string, but wtf did I just read about George C. Looney speaking to the UN Security Council?! Are you f***ing kidding me?
Jaibones on September 14, 2006 at 10:48 AM
I liked the 5 minute rule for Rosie and to think Redbook actually thought she had the mental capacity to run a magazine
EricPWJohnson on September 14, 2006 at 10:50 AM
Maybe you do Mark, but being tossed off as a bigot for respecting and wishing to preserve the thousands-year-old definition of marriage doesn’t do much to calm me down. Folks like yourself toss off such epithets against the majority of Christians and Americans with alarming casualness, giving cover to the more overt and obnoxious bigotry exhibited by the likes of Rosie.
Bryan on September 14, 2006 at 10:52 AM
Another vote for doing more Vents in this format. MM and MKH make a good team.
thirteen28 on September 14, 2006 at 10:54 AM
Michelle, you just expressed the exact thing that I was thinking when I read Rosie’s outrageous statements. IMO, Rosie is a spoiled rotten brat.
RepJ on September 14, 2006 at 10:57 AM
Mark, as others have stated, not condoning homosexuality has nothing to do with bigotry.
One definition of bigotry I found is:
Whether a Christian is against homosexuality or not, except in very rare cases, there is NO hatred against the gay person.
dalewalt on September 14, 2006 at 11:08 AM
Regarding the expressed wish for more posts of this type: the liberals started Air America; wouldn’t it be nice for a number of the conservative women to get together and put together a 15 minute or half hour long show like the view and air it over the ‘net!
I do realize, though, that MM, MKH, and the others wouldn’t have the time to do this (not to mention the support needed from AP and Bryan).
dalewalt on September 14, 2006 at 11:11 AM
I liked this format a lot better. That was a really nice deck, by the way. The facts are still out there, it doesn’t feel as canned, and the two ladies are play off each other very well. This format would be a nice one to throw in every now and then. And nice smackdown of Rosie too.
austinnelly on September 14, 2006 at 11:20 AM
First, regarding the format of this vent: It started off a little clunky, but by the end I was really enjoying it. I liked the conversational approach and felt it made MM and MKH appear more natural and accessable. I always feel that the less you look like a talking head, the more concincing your argument can be.
Second, regarding the message: Finally somebody is discussing the threat radical Islam poses to women and homosexuals! I know there are strong emotions involved when dealing with issues like abortion and gay marriage, but remember that the US is the most free place on earth. There is no question that radical Islam is the greatest threat to women and homosexuals in the world today.
ITmonkey on September 14, 2006 at 11:22 AM
Hey! I love this format (and not just because of the beauties either :) – the casual kitchen table discussion is nice. As for the subject matter:
Maybe Rosie should live for 6 months in Iran – and not as a ‘guest’ of the government on a guided tour either but just as an average person with her mate. Think of it as ‘Survivor – Gays under Islam’ or something like that.
And for the reaction – you have to understand that the audience for ‘The View’ is hand picked to reflect a certain (liberal) slant – so the applause doesn’t suprise me that much.
CrazyFool on September 14, 2006 at 11:29 AM
The danger of bad potato salad. That line cracked me up—as well as brought up some bad memories re: tuna sandwiches.
The editing was awesome, Bryan(?)
Excellent Vent. Keep it up, all.

Another vote for more “The Vent” and nice graphic theft.
I work for a living. Who watches The View? The unemployed? What is it anyway?
Michelle, you look much better in this format than you did on OReilly the other night (debating GGW). Relax, smile, and be confident that you are so much more intelligent than your opponent. I know Bill gets under everyone’s skin from time to time, but don’t let the camera see it.
[pigmode] … now if we could get “The Vent” from that backyard and on a trampoline, you’d crash the servers … [/pigmode]
sorry, I try to control my inner pig, but don’t always succeed
Fogpig on September 14, 2006 at 11:39 AM
Funny. I don’t remember seeing any videos of ‘radical christians’ cutting off any ones heads. Nor do I remember christians in America stating that if you didn’t convert to christianity that they’d declare war on you and kill you.
Paging Rosie…your 15 minutes are up….
webproze on September 14, 2006 at 11:43 AM
…we need to also keep in mind, Rosie, that Radical Christianists aren’t bombing Afghanistan or Iraq. She makes it sound like even though Islamists are attacking innocent civilians, the Christianists are doing the same thing. I, nor anyone in my church that I know about, has ever beheaded anyone.
jdpaz on September 14, 2006 at 11:50 AM
Very, very well done, Michelle and Mary Katherine!
Would love to see this format expanded to include La Shawn Barber and perhaps a video link with Sister Toldjah.
Just a thought.

Jack Deth on September 14, 2006 at 12:09 PM
MM and MKH – please keep up the pressure on this issue.
The far-Left’s line that America has become an oppressive “theocracy” and there’s a gang of “radical Christians” lurking somewhere that are morally equivalent to the jihadists is becoming mainstream. Give it another few years and everyone exiting the public education system will accept this line as absolute fact. I sometimes wonder if it isn’t already too late.
Just this morning, I went to Slashdot and their front page of stories — again — contains a political rant referring to the US as a “theocracy”.

Rightwingsparkle on September 14, 2006 at 12:26 PM
1) marriage is defined between ” a man & a woman” for thounds of years, so then gays have no rights to get married & no civil unions either
2)the President needs to have a constitutional ban on gay marriage a.s.a.p.
if the liberal democrats win the White House – then gays will be able to be married & ruin the traditional of marriage between a man & a woman forever.

I really enjoyed this format as well and loved the China! So very ladylike unlike that blather on the View. I think I watched this once when I was home sick from work one time and I lasted about 10 minutes (this was years ago when it first started) and haven’t been back since. I think this is the same group of women who have a nanny to watch their children and they don’t work who watch this as watch Oprah (another person I haven’t seen in years).
As far as the Brad Pitt rant-does he mean everyone who wants to marry? What about someone who wants to marry a 5 year old or their poodle, or Aunt Martha & Aunt Jane on the same day? Personally, I could care less when he or Tom Cruise legitimitize their bastard children (I know, I am mean but truthful).
As I said yesterday I don’t remember Mohammed Atta being a follower of Pat Robertson but I could have misses something along the way. I really am shocked at these women in the audience for cheering her stupid statements as I am pretty sure this is taped in NYC.
The funny thing is all the liberals who love Jidhadis would be the first to lose their heads & Rosie & gal pal Kelly would be one of the first at the Jihadi Neck Tie party.
It’s funny how intolerant those on the left actually are. Christians are seen as bigoted because we believe marriage should be between a man & one woman. Libs see Christians as freaks who sprung from the sod people and are to be made fun of at every turn.
Again, I really liked this format-nice for a change.

Rosie O’Donnell has public flickr account filled with all sorts of photos going back a few years. This one appears to be taken on the day she made her insightful “radical christians” statement, Sept 12th. It appears to be a camera-phone shot of The View audience, the one that cheered when she equated American Christians with wholesale mass murderers. I thought it interesting to actually see who they were, if in fact that is the audience that cheered.
Anyway, I’ve always wondered why anyone, anywhere, any time cared in any way about anything Rosie O’(verrated)donnell has to say about, well, anything at all. One of the mysteries of life I suppose, like why no talents/overrated-low-raters like Bill Maher, Keith Olbermann, and Al Franken still hang around and actually get the airtime… and are actually paid for it. Er, well, except Al Franken. He has a “cash flow problem”.
On a somewhat comical side note, internet betting sites are starting to put up odds, and are taking bets, on who will be fired first. Katie Couric or Rosie O’Donnell. I’ll take Rosie O’Donnell to get get canned first. Barbara Walters can really be a bitch when she’s upstaged.

I am amazed when I hear decently educated women like Rosie, whom I have never watched, talk about the moral equivalence of radical Islam. Not only do these Islamic countries persecute and kill gays, they despise feminists and would surely kill, imprison or run the likes of Rosie and company out of their countries. Come to think of it, I think the moral comparison should be made between radical Islam and radical feminism, Michelle and Mary!

Just my two cents, which is more than Rosie seems to have.

Wonderful ladies, straight and to the point. Much as I would like to see this on the networks, well, I will not hold my breath. Rosie is a damned fool, and anyone who cannot see that is beyond hope. I just hope people like this do not have to find out the truth the hard way.

So the real question is, when will one of the networks put on a show like this as answer for those of us that are not represented by “The View”? I would TAPE a show with women that are more from my view of life, and would like to see the same kind of thing from our format.
Wouldn’t it be good to try and get the people they visit to actually answer life from our standpoint? “Why not more family movies?” “Mr Pitt, when will you admit you said what you said to slime out of getting married, becuse everyone cn get married now?”
“When will there be more family friendly TV?” and “When will you admit that the difference between liberals and Conservatives, is that Conservatives actually have faith… in people?”
It could be SO FUN!
Noelie on September 14, 2006 at 8:54 PM
Another point about The View’s crowd reaction. During business trips to NYC I have traded boring evenings alone in the hotel for slipping into the studio audience for some TV show tapings.
Here’s what I’ve observed: the audience reaction is just as fabricated as the scripted actors. There’s always a massive amount of show staff off camera TELLING the audience to cheer and clap. The result — it makes jokes appear funny, and moronic statements appear valid. I was shocked at how un-funny Letterman is in person — the laughter is very contrived. The “stars” are not as talented or as intelligent as they appear — they only appear that way because of a large production staff working hard every day to MAKE them appear legit. Its amazing how brainless these studio audiences are, they literally laugh and cheer at anything, and most of the time they don’t even know what the actor/host even said.
realVerse on September 14, 2006 at 9:28 PM

Great Vent Michelle and Mary Katherine!
I enjoyed the refreshing change of presentation, great vent with excellent points to be made, and criticism of “The View” was done in such a classy and sophisticated manner. Michelle continues to amaze me with the excellent quality of her presentations on such important issues, and always done with such class and style.
Rosie O’Donnell, to me, seems to be the exact opposite of Michelle and Mary Katherine. O’Donnell leaves such a lasting impression of being crude, stupid, ignorant, ugly, and vulgar that the only way I would even consider viewing any part of her broadcast is that it is on Hot Air.
To clearly see the ignorance of O’Donnell’s view perhaps it is enlighting to view the Pope’s comments on Islam this week. His quotes from historical reference to the nature of Islam, and his view that violence is not compatable with the will of God really put the entire doctrine of the Muslim in perspective, and contrast sharply with the Christain faith.
I think we should pay more attention to who sponsors such outragous views – the TV station, network, but particularly the producers and the commercial sponsors. Perhaps someone can give us a better idea of the ones behind O’Donnell being given national air time.
