Poll: Bush approval rating up to 47%
posted at 2:17 pm on September 14, 2006 by Allahpundit
Eh, whatever. He was at 41 on Monday; three days later he’s at 47, for no apparent reason. The only explanation is a little residual goodwill from memories of 9/11. It’ll blow over.
Aside from a horrible head cold, I’ve got nothing. So here’s a little hors d’oeuvre from the archives to entertain you. If he’d have given this speech instead of the one he actually gave, he’d be bouncing around in the 50s now.
Update: Brutal perspective.

Blowback

He’s been rising for weeks this was the normal progression of things not a 9/11 bump
EricPWJohnson on September 14, 2006 at 2:21 PM
He’s rising in the polls as the election approaches because people are tuning in to the Dems and hearing the same mindless drivel they heard two years ago. There is sill no alternative.
RedWinged Blackbird on September 14, 2006 at 2:40 PM
What ever the case, it hasn’t changed my approval.
I still see Bush as the better alternative to any Dem out there. At least he has a plan and sticks to it.
Kini on September 14, 2006 at 2:43 PM
I’ve still got to kind of disagree on the speech. It may not have been historic, but I don’t think it was as crappy as a lot of others thought. I think it was “more of the same” to us news junkies who catch his afternoon speeches all the time… But I think there were a lot of important points being made to non-news junkie types who were watching 9/11 programming. Yes it could have been a lot better, but I think it was marketed toward that audience who isn’t as knowledgable about all other related issues, and it was kept rather basic.
RightWinged on September 14, 2006 at 2:44 PM
This Gallup poll is a four day rather than the usual three day (Friday-Sunday) weekend poll. I guess that Gallup wanted to include 9/10 among the dates, so that they could say that there was little effect from the anniversary of al-Qaeda’s attacks.

The Poll Website to beat all.
SilverStar830 on September 14, 2006 at 2:46 PM
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ has him at a 42.5 average. That seems closer to the Monday average. MSM was pulling this crap during an election year so they could bring the poll down closer to voting day. Don’t buy the hype.

GWB is a joke. I voted for him twice and he has backstabbed the Reagan Conservatives like myself. He has single handedly destroyed conservatism. He is destroying the middle class, American culture, and one day we could be atomized because of this buffoon. Since 9/11 more muslims have came here than in previous years. We have student exchange, are our students not allowed in their arab countries? Iraqi leaders are meeting with Iran and kissing cheeks…..while our men are losing legs. Someday this political coward will no longer be able to sleep for standing on the dismembered bodies of young Americans. While his daughters and nephews dance in nightclubs because they do not believe in America to join the cause he espouses, real Americans(not the Bush’s) are dying and wearing aluminum legs. The terrorists are invading our country through Mexico, while Bush stutters and stammers about staying the course. Azz kissers like Limbaugh only make matters worse. God help us from this political elite.
LZVandy on September 14, 2006 at 3:31 PM
And you would replace him with who?
Like it or not, George W. Bush will remain President of the US until January 20, 2009. A lot can happen between now and then.
Yes, he’s done some stupid things. What President hasn’t, especially in the second term? The Republicans in Congress haven’t been much better either. And that brings me back to the Demoncraps- for the sake of the country they have got to sort themselves out and advocate a real program. If they go on as they have (and all signs point to that) the GOP has no political incentive to get its act together as well.
Right now there is no true alternative to the GOP, they know it and it suits them because then they win by default.
Hardly a ringing endorsement of their policies but there it is.
Abigail Adams on September 14, 2006 at 3:45 PM
It’s interesting that generic Democrats tend to do better in the polls than those with names. It seems that a lot of folks are ready to vote for a Democrat as long as it’s not one of those morons they’ve heard on TV. Maybe the Dems should nominate some dark horse candidates and tell them to keep their mouths shut.
RedWinged Blackbird on September 14, 2006 at 4:12 PM
I was expecting to see the increase. Democrats are getting their message out, and Americans do not like it. Their effort to be the programming directors at ABC was
Fascistway over the top, the 9/11 movie woke many people up to todays reality that we are at war, the liberal whining through the 9/11 memorials have put many people off, the President’s speeches have been the shining light through the liberal rants of recent weeks, and America has begun looking for a reason to vote. IMHO, only republicans offer anything of substance.Gallop may have been a respected polling firm, but I don’t believe some of the data they showed in their latest polling, and even they cannot explain some of it…
In June, a USA Today/Gallup poll asked Americans whether the Republicans in Congress or Democrats in Congress would better handle each of several issues, including terrorism. In that poll that used a different question wording, Republicans had a 46% to 35% advantage on the terrorism issue. It is not clear if the difference between the June poll results and the current results indicate that the Republican advantage has eroded in the last few months, or if the differences are due to the way the questions were worded.
Stated more correctly, they don’t know what they are doing. Their ‘scientific’ method is to randomly select individuals 18 years and older. Do these vote? What area did they call? Are their selected persons even American?!?! Where are their predictions/numbers from the 04 elections? What a crock!
I continue to hope that the GOP continues to feel pressured to pull the rabbit out of the hat, and pass the preferred border bill.
DannoJyd on September 14, 2006 at 4:13 PM
Sigh. So many liberal talking points, so little time.
You do realize that the draft has not been reinstated in this country, do you not?? Therefore, because someone chooses not to enlist in the military does not make him any less a believer in America or her causes than someone who has fought for our country. Don’t even bother with that tired argument.
I do not believe you are the Reagan conservative you claim to be.
Fly_in_Ointment on September 14, 2006 at 4:20 PM
I see more than just statistical noise going on here. Consider Bush’s recent surge in light of oil’s significant pullback.

flip, good job. I missed that.
DannoJyd on September 14, 2006 at 4:55 PM
Woops, I didn’t even play the vid.. I just thought this was the 9/11/06 speech again, that I know you weren’t that impressed with. That is what I was referring to.
I like to check that site too, but I like Rasmussen better. Not just because his numbers are better, but I trust them better based on their 04 election record.
RightWinged on September 14, 2006 at 5:12 PM
Flip, from the link you graciously provided:
I told a liberal colleague yesterday over lunch that gas prices in Iowa are now $2.05/gallon and her face turned ashen. She had been in the camp which did blame Mr. Bush for the rise to around $3 and predicted it would nover get below that. They know what the drop means!

GWB is a joke. I voted for him twice and he has backstabbed the Reagan Conservatives like myself.
Uh huh. Was this something recent? If he backstabbed before the 2004 election and you still voted for him, what does that say about you?
He has single handedly destroyed conservatism.
Now that’s a silly comment.
He is destroying the middle class,…
hmmmmm…. No, I’m still breathing.
…American culture,…
And just what is “American Culture”? Rap, Country, Rock’n'Roll? Mom, Baseball and Apple Pie? Seems to plenty to be plenty of that these days.
…. and one day we could be atomized because of this buffoon.
Man overboard! Man overboard!
Since 9/11 more muslims have came here than in previous years.
Isn’t that what the Italians said of the Irish 100 years ago? We still survived.
We have student exchange, are our students not allowed in their arab countries?
We should invite more exchange students come to the US so the can see what the hub-bub is really all about, don’tcha think? Who cares if we can’t send American students to Saudi Arabia. Who want’s to risk turning them into Wahabis??
Iraqi leaders are meeting with Iran and kissing cheeks…..
A kinky bunch.
….while our men are losing legs.
You realize that we do have an “all volunteer military” don’t you. Odd how so many of those who lost their legs want to go back.
Someday this political coward will no longer be able to sleep for standing on the dismembered bodies of young Americans.
You sound like Joan Crawford in “Mommie Dearest”.
While his daughters and nephews dance in nightclubs because they do not believe in America to join the cause he espouses, real Americans(not the Bush’s) are dying and wearing aluminum legs.
I didn’t realize that Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital was considered a night club.
The terrorists are invading our country through Mexico,
Really. Who?
….while Bush stutters and stammers about staying the course.
Hmmm… no attacks on American soil while we’ve been on this course. What’s the problem?
Azz kissers like Limbaugh only make matters worse.
You sound jealous.
God help us from this political elite.
And the overwrought ignorant, too.

The capriciousness of weekly polls is indicative of the many “flip-floppers” that must be out there. How accurate are the percentages when only five or six hundred individuals were polled, and that is supposed to be representative of the mood of the nation? Today on Fox News a Democrat was asked about Bush’s rising poll numbers. His reply, “Well, they rose because they couldn’t go any lower.” Conservatives are more cultured
Classicalguy on September 14, 2006 at 5:18 PM

A look at the bigger picture should tell you that while his approval rating is above 30%, that less than squat will get done according to the will of the people and everything will get done on the Bush personal docket.
That means immigration is dead except under his terms which doesn’t include deporting anyone in fact just the opposite, by the million.
China, India and any nation the president wants to bribe can keep or start feeding on the American tit and continue setting new trade deficit records and join the currency loyalists in erasing all definition of separation between America and Ghana, Thailand or Borneo so far as that goes.
The dash will be on to cement the SPP/north American union in place with no approval by Congress and to hell with American citizens.
The globalists will continue destroying the American middle class to line their pockets at gold rush pace.
Bush was a much better Pres. at 27% than he ever will be at 47%.
Ann Coulter in relation to the immigration issue said “press 2 for president Cheney”
I say press ’3 for Pres. Hastert’…please.

Entelechy, you can be killed just as well by a Volkswagen as by a Mac truck.
We just shouldn’t have to face up to being killed by either through political/personal agenda.
The trust well assumed by US citizens that a Pres. will put America first in all respects shouldn’t fall to which candidate usurps us (screws you and me over) best.
We can and absolutely should demand and provide for ourselves, better.
Speakup on September 14, 2006 at 7:26 PM
LZ, too much Savage makes for an unhappy self. Savage, while correct in many respects, goes all leftard when he gets too fired up. He ends up playing right into the hands of the very enemies within he hates so much. Although it is a shame we tend to have to pick between two sides that both do things to annoy us, the end game is what matters most. Globalism, while scary, is more feasible than isolationism.
I agree we can and should demand and provide for ourselves better, but until the ones with great ideas and a good following are willing to step up to the plate and take the bashing that goes with it, we are destined for more of the same.
SHHHHH! This poll data should be buried like the robust economy, decreasing unemployment numbers (again), lower gas prices, and lack of terror attacks!!!

Speakup, I understand your message. However, it is ideal and we’re dealing with a nasty environment in which the best people don’t even run for the office. There aren’t angels on Earth and the media (whom no one checks) destroys people for sport. So do political adversaries.
Thus, and because a third party doesn’t have a chance, we end up always voting for the lesser of two not-perfect candidates. Add to that the events which unfold and the surprises they bring us, not having revealed them for political or other reasons during the campaign, and here we are…
For my part, I still sleep much better knowing we’ve got this admin. versus the two we nealry had. I shudder.
On the poll topic, gas prices at $1.15 a possibility again?
Entelechy on September 15, 2006 at 12:00 AM
Entelechy,
“I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.”
George Washington http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/infousa/facts/democrac/49.htm
I have only voted Conservative since Richard Nixon and I have seen the damage done the Country by egos, party loyalties and abject hatred of the opposing party.
So I am well acquainted with voting for the lesser evil and deluding myself that the oath of office would keep the better (or worse), but not perfect choice from straying to far from Constitutional constraints.
Yeah, I much prefer Bush to Gore or Kerry.
Liberalism has damaged this Country far more than people under thirty can possibly imagine.
The real problem lies in that there is no resultant difference between an Al-Qaeda nuke/Islamic terrorism, a take over by third world invasion/Communist takeover or the economy held hostage by a combination of Foreign lenders, currency loyalists and deluded Global elites. America is still changed forever and maybe doesn’t exist at all.
Our present Pres. is the better of two other Candidates or the lesser evil, only that the result of just one of the above evils is all it takes to achieve the same disastrous end.
Bush is in for two out of three, intentionaly or not…feel better?

His approval ratings remind me daily of how mindless this nation can be. Iraq and Terror aside, what has Bush done for the working family? Anything? Are interest rates down? Are medical costs down? Is inflation down? Is the national debt down? Is college tuition down? How about gas prices, crime rates, high school drop out rates? What has he done for the average family? Today, during his press conference, you could hear police sirens blaring in the background and it should have reminded us all that there are issues deeper than getting the “evil-doers”.

Hmmm….Chasing speeders or killing terrorists. Racing to the scene of an accident or killing terrorists. Hmmm…Tough choices for the President.

How about a nuanced President? You’d think, being the leader of the free world and all, he could chew gum and walk at the same time. I suspect you’d rather let the speeders and drunk drivers kill thousands of motorists every year. Why outsource the job, right?

Kerry didn’t win the election. You’ll just have to get over it. Sorry.

Depends on the brand of gum.
I suspect you’d rather let the speeders and drunk drivers kill thousands of motorists every year.

The ABC miniseries on 911 made Bush seem much more valuable.
The recipe for higher numbers:
1. ABC miniseries on 911 Oy VEY
2. illegal Invasion News – off the radar on MSM because neither party wants it for the election
3. Gas Down
Result:
1. Real Fear revived for a real enemy we have to kill or die
2. Not seeing the Mexican flag being hoisted over the Alamo keeps our eyes off a real enemy Bush is conspiring with, and on a real enemy Bush said he will fight
3. Gas down, blood pressure down
Your head clears just enough to realize that

fly_in_ointment and fogw, there is no need to call people liars to strenghen your argument. I am not the only Reagan conservative that realizes now that Bush is not a conservative. Joseph Farah, Jay Severen, Richard Vigurie,
Pat Buchanan, and many more. The only conservative thing Bush has done is lower taxes. He kisses up to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton on the white house lawn. Allows Elton John and his boyfriend to overnight and committ sodomy in the Lincoln Bedroom. There is so much more. Partners with Ted Kennedy to strengthen the dept of ed. So much more.
