Federalism, baby. It’s not just for conservatives anymore:
Such a classification means city funds will not be used to enforce federal immigration laws, which is already the case in National City.
Mayor Nick Inzunza declared in an interview on National Public Radio last week that he wants National City to be a sanctuary city, a designation being promoted through a grass-roots effort in other parts of California and the country…
“If he wants to declare it, he can do it as Nick Inzunza, but he can’t declare it for the city,” said Councilman Ron Morrison. “We’ve already done so many things as far as the acceptance of the (matricula consular) ID cards. We’ve made sure that our police policy is such that we’re not out there calling the Border Patrol on people.”
There’s a snippet of Inzunza audio here. More Morrison, via UPI:
“Doing this sanctuary thing, to me that just sounds like a lot of fluff,” said Councilman Ron Morrison. “What are we, Berkeley?”
Actually, no. Berkeley hasn’t declared itself a sanctuary city.
Upon news of Inzunza’s intended declaration, National City laborers joined illegals in a solidarity march. After which they were all summarily fired and replaced with Mexican laborers being paid eleven cents an hour. (J/k.)

Can’t all state and federal money be cut off because of this BS?
Is this not seditious?

When elected, I will declare a national emergency along both borders, and build the friggin’ electrified fence once and for all.

And yes, Rosetta, it is seditious.

Bush, and the Senate should be quite happy to hear that good news. [/sarcasm]

I find it hard to believe that taking a hard line against illegal immigration would cost any politician votes by legal immigrants.
I would think that legal immigrants would be the most virulent anti-illegal immigrant voter.
Why do all politicians get neutered when elected?

Good . . . then he and his herd of criminals can hide out together with no federal dollars to support them.

I live in San Diego and have for 25+ years. National City is one of the most crime ridden city’s in San Diego. It’s crime rate is almost THREE TIMES the National average. It’s also a stones throw from the Mexican border.
The National City Mayor, Nick Inzunza, is not only “part of a politically active family of Democrats”, he is also a crooked wealthy slumlord whom once ran for California State Assembly. He ran for the 79th Assembly District where he is slumlord owner of twelve properties in that district. When he has campaign fundraisers, he gives the money to his friends and family as “pay for campaign work”. Excuse me? He had to pay his friends and FAMILY to campaign for him? I’ve worked on many a campaign, including my father-in-law’s run for State Assembly, and I never demanded, expected, or ever considered taking a dime for my efforts. Most people volunteer for their chosen representative. But not Inzunza and company. They’re as crooked as the day is long.
Why is he still Mayor of National City then? Well, birds of a feather flock together. Who better to lead a crime ridden city then a criminal?
His brother, Ralph Inzunza, was a San Diego City council member. He was indicted, arrested, and convicted on all sorts of Federal crimes in relation to loosening the restrictions on TOPLESS BARS, and one of the co-conspirators was a Las Vegas slime ball strip joint owner. What did Mayor Nick do when the indictment was handed down? He berated America’s government and bad-mouthed the FBI for doing their job. What did he say after brother Ralphy boy was convicted? Nothing. Not a peep.
If Mayor Nick Inzunza is making National City a “sanctuary”, it’s to head off any notion of National City enacting any restrictions on illegal aliens and the people that house/employ them. He needs to make sure he has plenty of illegal aliens to occupy his slum propertys so he can continue to make his millions, and plenty of cheap
manuelmanual labor for the minimal upkeep he does on his slums. It may also have something to do with the fact that he’s a Mexican Democrat, but I’m just guessing on that one.SilverStar830 on September 13, 2006 at 10:58 PM
So when we build the fence can we put this city on the pther side?

Hey SilverStar830, what do they say?
“We didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us”?
Just a little lesson in Mexican-style government.

I wonder how many Cities, Counties or States will be allowed to secede from the union?
I wonder why the declaration of “sanctuary City” isn’t a sovereingty challenge to our Federal government?
Speakup on September 14, 2006 at 10:28 AM
Hey, pretty soon they’ll change the name from National City to La Ciudad National de Mexico.
