I would love to see a Newt vs. Hitlary debate. He can run circles around some of the best that Washington has to offer.

Guiliani is liberal but his is absolutely credible.

Newt has the same baggage for moderates that Hillary has for conservatives. I don’t know if he can get past the image.

Romney has done some clever things. He seems to have true convictions. He also seems to have the ability to blurt out some honest remark that could bury him, like Barry Goldwater and the nuclear war remark. Goldwater was right but the words ran without him. I need to see more of Romney to know.

Intuitively I like Condi. The problem is, she is always working for someone else, and presenting the other person’s opinion. I really don’t know her personal politics. She is discrete and always backs Bush. right now she is a cipher. She appears fearless. is she?

Romney’s stand on the Iranian leader was cool. It wasn’t something Condi could do in her job.

Guiliani is a proven warrior, I believe him. We disagree on a lot, yet I don’t think he would shove something at the public if most people didn’t want it. He has decency, propriety in public behavior as seen in 911. He also moves lightening fast in crisis. No deer in the headlights. Does anyone doubt Katrina would have been different under Guiliani. He would have kicked the governor in the ass if he had to to save people. That has value.

LZ, I usually agree with you, but I'm getting annoyed by the whole "dumb" Condi thing. She's the ONLY politician I heard say that Bin Laden wanted to fly planes into buildings before it happened. She has spent her life studying these things. Granted, I wish she could be more tough, but to put her in the same boat with the Brisket Legged Butcher of the Balkans Halfbright is an absolute stupid joke. Newt/Guiliani or Newt/Romney. Baggage can't matter. Get Newt's newsletter and check out how right on he is. He recently outlined the top 11 priorities we need to accomplish and he was dead on with all of them. Romney is brilliant and crafty around libs. Guiliani showed awesome leadership after 9/11. I still wish Oliver North would run though.

only one clear choice.. as always its Newt. Baggage shmaggage.. that doesn’t mean anything in American politics. Think William Jefferson Clinton.. Newt is perfect by the job and as much as some of you don’t think so, he IS electable.. Watch and see..

These times are too serious – we’re not in the mid-to-late nineties – for idealistic experimentation and message-sending. Come to think of it, the 90s, in retrospect, shouldn’t have been that either.

I like Mitt Romney too and he would be my 1st choice but I fear the “religious right” is going to make toast of him for being a Mormon. We can’t afford for them to stay away from the polls .. as much as I hate it .. that’s the reality.

Don’t think that the Dems won’t pull out all personal baggage in the ’08 knifefight. That’s also a ding on Guliani, unfortunately. If he and Hillary are nominated, they would very quickly tried to turn it into ‘philandering man vs. aggrieved woman’ contest. And that is likety to be a winning strategy, pulling the entire Oprah camp out to vote.

1. Mitt Romney is the most electable because he isn’t tainted by scandal and will be most agreeable to the cross section of ~~sheep~~ voters in this country.

I need to know more about Mitt, but he won major points with me when he ordered the state of Mass. to not provide any security for Khatami (sp?) during his visit to Harvard.

2. Newt Gingrich? Newt Gingrich?! I thought the GOP wanted to win this election. Actually the entire list is quite uninspiring to me.

Newt definitely has some baggage, but it's mostly in regard to his personal life. In his political life, he was the architect of the 1994 mid terms when Republicans re-took the house, and that is a huge, huge plus in his favor. It says he knows how to win, and knows how to do it with ideas. Underestimate him at your own peril.

Bluntly, after the ’06 elections, here’s the switchup I’d like to see in the Administration. Cheny, God bless him, retires for medical reasons and goes on the stump pitching the administration with no restraints. Condi moved to VP, to show everyone what she’s made of and get her toes into the ultimate political pool. Bolton as Secretary of State, Tony Snow to the U.N. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Afirmative action and other domestic policy issues matter little in ’08; if we don’t have someone who truly understands the nature of the Global War on Terror, the odds of us having a radioactive crater in New York or Washington go way up. Without a knowledgeable wartime president, we might not have a domestic policy. Condi understands that; I’m not sure many of the others do.

I am a Goldwater conservative and would oppose many domestic policies Condi might want; I figure Congress could hold the fort on that. But we must have her level of knowledge and commitment to the GWOT at the top, or risk more than we can afford to lose.

Flame me all you want, but I say draft Condi.

Our next president isn’t on that list. Condi is the only Pubbie (other than Cheney or Rummy) who’ll continue the Bush (Rice) Doctrine of Pre-emption to fight this global war on islamic terror. Now that’s she’s the S.o.S. she’s playing “good cop” and some conservatives are turning against her. But when she was N.S.A. and playing “bad cop”, conservatives loved her. Have we forgotten so easily? Condi was the “rock star” of the G.O.P. The brains behind Dubya’s long term stategery to defeat the islamic maniacs who wish to kill us. The “Velvet Hammer”, the “Warrior Princess”. Now she’s relegated to “RINO” status because she’s doing her job in a hostile environment at foggy bottom. She needs to replace more of the Klintonite leftovers, but good cop or bad cop, she is still our best hope for ’08 and the best hope that our grandkids won’t still be fighting this war. President Rice will be the ultimate Bad Cop.

I couldn’t find Michael Badnarik listed. Oh, it’s a poll of GOP guys. I’ll pass, though I will offer the following points:

3. If Brownback gets the nomination he should choose a running mate whose last name is “Mountain”. Brownback-Mountain might just win over the gay vote.

Well I voted for some “Yankees”..and being a born and bred Southerner that is something! BUT I would absolutely support Guliani..and possibly Romney..Newt? He makes me NUTS..I support many things he says BUT his personal life bothers the hell out of me..if he can discard wives so easily..well..as a woman..it just simply bothers me. I would be OK with Newt in a Cabinet position but honestly, I would hesitate to vote for him IF he was facing another Republican candidate I liked..BUT were he the nominee….NO PROBLEM..Newt or a Dem? NEWT..and until 1996 I was a “yellow dog Democrat” so that is really saying something!

I hope the RINOs McCain and Hagel are watching. Brownback is DOA becaus of his stance on immigration. How many illegals did he think would vote for him in the GOP primary?
