I’ll avoid posting the link, because the issue was quite inflammatory, though, to my mind, the content was not objectionable.

Here’s another. At 1:40 in the second video UBL is seen giving a lecture to the muscle hijacker hopefuls.

Below is the text of most of his address (poor video quality prevented a complete transcription) which Laura was kind enough to allow me to post to alphabet city.

“Some people think that the issue is training only. One of them will say “I already know this.” Even if you know it take it again. But there are other purposes. This one is a candidate for martyrdom operations abroad, whereas one whose temper is short and patience thin won’t be able to bear up on the outside. And we can only know that from here. Your brothers in Nairobi spent nine months in an apartment while their brothers smuggled them TNT and they pounded it. Can you be that patient? You aren’t patient with us here two hours so how can we send you there for nine months?

A lot of things stem from the time you spend here, and your reward is there if you intend to emigrate, prepare and perform Ribat. [here Ribat means living on the front-line of jihad amongst the enemy in the period prior to combat - ed.] So for Allah is all praise and [may] Allah choose from among the candidates for participation in the martyrdom operations a group of unique heroes to be the young strong arms who would take control of the planes until the moment of impact.

From the 9-11 Report:

“Bin Ladin, assisted by Atef, personally chose all the future muscle hijackers for the planes operation, primarily between the summer of 2000 and April 2001. Upon choosing a trainee, Bin Ladin would ask him to swear loyalty for a suicide operation. After the selection and oath-swearing, the operative would be sent to KSM for training and the filming of a martyrdom video, a function KSM supervised as head of al Qaeda’s media committee.”

And knowing the propaganda value that Atta, Shehhi, Hanjour and Jarrah marrtydom videos would have for al Qaeda, I think it certain they were made and, further, will be released to either signal or commemorate (not 9-11) a momentous occasion.

Also, I believe the UBL lecture to prospective muscle hijackers was given at the Faruq training camp near Kandahar in the summer of 2000 and Ramzi bin al-Shibh meeting with bin Laden and Mohammed Atef was shot at the al Matar complex in early spring of 2001 after the 15 muscle hijackers had been chosen but before they transited to the US.
