See, when Jesus first told them the parable, he spoke in cloaked words, using terms like, “FIELD”, “WHEAT” and ‘TARES” and “ENEMY”. This confused His apostles, so I hardly blame you for not understanding, despite my snarky tone,…lol? However, he did go on to explain what He meant and here is that explanation.

The true repenter gets down on his or her knees determined not to rise until they have PROOF that they have been forgiven. As the Spirit Giveth Utterance (Acts 2:4). Sadly, the same DIVISION that you find in the “denominations” which shouldn’t even exist, (eph 4:5), will occur in families where some of them “think” they are saved but do not have the same proof. This will cause bitter rifts in families, because some are accepted and some are not. The bible declares that it is the “goodness of God that leadeth a man to repentance” and if he “leads’ you he will certainly provide you with proof of it. The world thinks they get to accept him…again quite the contrary is true. He must accept you . But your churches would be a lot smaller if you actually taught the truth. But as you see, I have now, using the words of Jesus himself, proven my point and in doing so, showed you things that no one else has. My boast is in the Lord. It’s not too late, take heed. I don’t currently attend any church or belong to any particular sect because I feel like in order to have the personal relationship with Christ, it is more “real” outside of following specific teachings of a specific church. If you’re going to disagree on a point of Biblical doctrine, have the courtesy to make your points through Scripture, not your own opinon or “feelings”, or what “seems” right, that way lies error.

Exactly. The phrase “Love the sinner, hate the sin” is not in the Bible, as Soothsayer correctly pointed out, but an honest examination of Jesus’ compassion for sinners in the Gospels shows that Jesus did exactly that. And as Christians we are directed to follow His example. Phelps is so far out in left field that he’s in a different county.

I understand the whole concept of the Son sacrificing himself for our sins. But, if God created the whole Universe and is all-knowing then he knew humanity would fail from the beginning, so the “New” Testament is only new to us. He knew about it all along. From the moment he said, “Let there be light”.

I don’t want to get into a situation where I’m attacking the basis for the 3 major monotheistic religions, but how does the personal God of Abraham, who talks about the existence of other Gods, get to be the one, the only God who created the Universe? Longevity? Seniority? A PR person(Paul) for the ages?

Getting back to Phelps. I think if the Christian God exists, Phelps is going to hell for a being a giant prick. Jesus wasn’t a fag-basher.

My point is, I think you can see that this guy is not even a fraction of a fraction of a percent or else you’d see many others. Instead you just see his idiotic group who behaves the way they do, a way that most Christians would say is contradictory to Biblical teaching.

Well it’s really no question… This is one a-hole and his little flock of douches. But aren’t there something like 60 million evangelicals in the country? While we personally condemn the behavior, and as I said, see the lack of logic behind it or any basis for it being real (meaning born trait), we don’t show up at soldiers’ funerals to chant “God hates fags”. That has nothing to do with Christianity, this guy is just an unhinged nut. Just like the Warren Jeffs crew, they don’t represent Christianity. Thought there is something to be said about this… Gays can have their “gay pride parades” etc., but can you imagine the outrage if a Church or otherwise conservative group held a “straight pride parade” and chanted against gays with signs saying things like “Gay isn’t natural” “Talk to me when you’re able to produce offspring!”, etc. It’s the free speech for some mentality.

The thing is, it would be frowned upon by virtually everyone for such a hypothetical parade to happen. But virtually no one condemns the in your face gay parades, that many find about as offensive as anything.

Anyway, off on a bit of a tangent. My point is, I think you can see that this guy is not even a fraction of a fraction of a percent or else you’d see many others. Anyway, I’m a Christian, but I don’t try to argue against homosexuality (a word I hate to even use because I think it legitimizes it) based on the Bible, because in all likelyhood those I’d be arguing with wouldn’t believe or follow the Bible in the first place. I argue against it simply because it’s illogical.

Unfortunately though there are those legalistic Christians that use the Bible’s guidelines on sex to construct a legalistic system of morality that is next to impossible to live by, and then condemn anyone and everyone who doesn’t comply with their interpretation of “godly sexual morality.” “If I can’t do it then neither can you!” Yet another recipe for sexual frustration.

Both camps have an irrational need to control the sexual behavior of others, as they see a demanding God trying to control their own.

Both the jihadi and the hyper-judgmental Christian are people in the grip of a religion they perceive to be based in rules and regulations: Legalism. And legalistic requirements regarding sex are seen as strict and unyielding. In the case of the Jihadi, his religion (Islam) is exactly that – strict and unyielding, so his perception is accurate. He must comply with Islam’s rules about sexuality or he is violating Sharia law. Sexual frustration guaranteed. Why else would the promise of virgins in Paradise be such a powerful motivating force.

Christianity however (true Christianity) is not a religion – it is faith in Christ.
