Video: Clinton takes strong, principled stand against lying

My head hurts.

Update: Here’s the text of the e-mail DNC Executive Director Tom McMahon sent around to the true believers this afternoon. I love the reference to “the suits,” one of whom presumably is George Mitchell, current Chairman of the Board of Disney and former Democratic Senator. I also like that he calls the program “right-wing.” Go see what the New York Times had to say about that.

Thanks to Kid from Brooklyn for sharing.

***
Dear Fellow Democrat,

This is it: crunch time for getting the slanderous ABC television docudrama “The Path to 9/11″ yanked off the air. The network schedule has this slanderous attack on Democrats slated to start on Sunday night, September 10, at 8 o’clock — and as long as it stays on the schedule, we have work to do. Tell your friends and family about this disgrace and ask them to push to keep this propaganda off the air:

http://www.democrats.org/pathto911/send

Here’s the good news: the suits at ABC and the Walt Disney Company have started panicking under pressure, thanks to your ferocious response to the outrageous decision to put this irresponsible miniseries on the air. But until Disney quits defending its plan to broadcast conservative propaganda — fraudulently presented to Americans as “based on the 9/11 Commission Report” — the company should plan to keep taking every bit of heat we dish out.

Here’s a quick catch-up on developments over the last 48 hours:

* President Clinton, through his attorney, rebuked ABC for producing a “factually and incontrovertibly inaccurate” miniseries — and walked the network through three make-believe scenes in the “the Path to 9/11″ that defame people and misrepresent events during his administration.
* Clinton’s spokesman later stepped up the pressure, condemning Disney as “despicable” for “airing a fictional version of what is a serious and emotional event for our country. No reputable organization,” he said, “should dramatize 9-11 for a profit at the expense of the truth.”
* The families of September 11 victims have weighed in on the controversy, telling “entertainers” not to “promote misleading or incorrect information as fact to the public.”
* House and Senate Democratic leaders hammered Disney president and CEO Robert Iger, in letters that questioned the company’s commitment to its “reputation … as a corporation worthy of the trust of the American people and the United States Congress.”
* Scholastic has pulled teaching materials off its website and has scrambled to adopt a plan to help teachers show students “the differences between factual reporting and a dramatization,” but is still encouraging teachers to show their students this propaganda.

Thanks for helping to make all this happen by joining over 150,000 Americans who told Disney president Robert Iger to keep this cheap right-wing miniseries off our airwaves. But our work isn’t done. Before we deliver your letter today, tell your family, friends, neighbors and colleagues to insist that Disney and ABC live up to its duty to tell the truth:

http://www.democrats.org/pathto911/send

Thank you,
Tom

It really depends on what “lying” is…..

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!

Never mind what Gov. Kean had to say this morning… Path to 9/11 is NOT THE TRUTH!

…”NOT TO PRETEND IT’S SOMETHING IT’S NOT”. Well, that kinda describes his life and his ‘Presidential’ legacy doesn’t it?

Just….Wow.

The truth is what he deems it to be.

JammieWearingFool on September 8, 2006 at 5:06 PM

Technically ABC could lie… under oath… and Bill couldn’t wag his finger once.

But of course he does.

Hoodlumman on September 8, 2006 at 5:06 PM

Everytime he says “people oughtta tell the truth” his eyes shift up and to the left. Such-a shifty eyed fella, aint he.

Catnip on September 8, 2006 at 5:09 PM

It depends on what the definition of truth is

Ian on September 8, 2006 at 5:10 PM

Now that is Orwellian.

Up is down, black is white, and Clinton just wants people to tell the truth.

“A never had sex with that woman, miss Lewinski, a never did, in the true sense of what you generally call sex. A only conquered her and then dismissed her, at ma conjugal or political need, a mean whim, a mean when Hillary threatened ta kill me but promised to laa with me about the entaar thing and blame it on the vast right wign conspiracy, which, honest to god, does exist to this day. The impeachment should have never happened aather. It was the single most serious distraction to faanding and killing bin Laden.

ABC claims, and it’s a complete fabricated laa, that a couldn’t walk and chew gum, a mean test ma cigar and focus on bin Laden, at the same taam. Now, that’s not true. The definition of truth is that a could test ma cigar, talk to Yassar Arafat on one laan, Hillary on another, Chelsea on laan 3 and Sandy Berger on laan 4. Occasionally we’d even activate laan 5 for Mr. Tenet at Cee Aaa Ei.

Further, Ms. Albraat, ma brilliant SoS, was raat to warn Pakistan about the fla-over, lest they unleash their nuclear, see a know how to pronounce nuclear, arsenal over India. She was smart, and that’s the truth and a don’t want ABC to show a clip which depicts her otherwaase.

Now, Sandy, he’s ma good buddy, he did well baa a friend in need, he shredded and hid the most important, a mean most imlicatin’ documents, at the raat taame. That’s the truth, not that he stopped the Cee Aaa Ei from blasting bin Laden.

A was always in control and that’s the truth. And remember, stupid, the economy was real good back then. Did a tell you that ma lovely waaf, Hillary would make a great President for the U.S. And that’s the truth!”

Entelechy on September 8, 2006 at 5:13 PM

We sure wanted HIM to tell the truth…but he didn’t.

Say…why the hell do we care what this man wants? Last time I checked, he was an EX president. There is no more Clinton Administration.

tickleddragon on September 8, 2006 at 5:17 PM

tickleddragon, because we don’t want one to come back.

Entelechy on September 8, 2006 at 5:18 PM

Where is the blue dress ?

Wade on September 8, 2006 at 5:19 PM

Entelechy…Understood, and point taken.
But it used to be that EX presidents were only heard from once in a long while, peddling some pet project. We’ve not STOPPED hearing from this asshole since he slithered out of office.

tickleddragon on September 8, 2006 at 5:23 PM

Same with Mr. Carter, speaking of a——s as ex POTUSes. What do they have in common or what do they lack?

Entelechy on September 8, 2006 at 5:26 PM

Slick Willie knows about troof! Hallelujah!

SilverStar830 on September 8, 2006 at 5:28 PM

The way to tell if the Clintons are lying? If their lips are moving.

Heck, if this idiot told me it was raining, I’d call the dog in to see if he’s wet.

Unbelievable…

Corky on September 8, 2006 at 5:30 PM

Attention…that’s what they lack AND have in common. So desperate for the limelight they had as POTUS.

tickleddragon on September 8, 2006 at 5:30 PM

Q. What was that stain on the blue dress?

A. Presidue.

JammieWearingFool on September 8, 2006 at 5:34 PM

Clinton protesting lying? That’s a bit like O.J. Simpson protesting violence against women.

Kid from Brooklyn on September 8, 2006 at 5:42 PM

An Ex POTUS nearly scolding ABC about telling the truth, aftah he lied many times, and this thread turns into Comedy Central. Go figur. (e left out)

shooter on September 8, 2006 at 5:47 PM

Clinton wouldn’t recognize the truth if it jumped up and bit him in the backside. The bum chronically lies and obfuscates and has no concept of truth.

rplat on September 8, 2006 at 5:47 PM

This just boggles the mind.

Rightwingsparkle on September 8, 2006 at 6:03 PM

You want answers? I want the truth! YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!”

The Democratic leadership are absolute reprobates. They’re snakes. They’re the most duplicitous bunch of people I’ve ever seen in public life.

ABC should read McMahon’s letter and spit in his face. What an arrogant jerk.

CP on September 8, 2006 at 6:16 PM

My head hurts.

Put some ice on it, Allah. ;-)

normsrevenge on September 8, 2006 at 6:17 PM

Thanks Kid.

Tom McMahon, in his “hit-list” left out this, the most important of all actions, the threatening letter from the Minority Leader and a few more senatorial minions, to ABC.

Sincerely,

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid

Assistant Democratic Leader Dick Durbin

Senator Debbie Stabenow

Senator Charles Schumer

Senator Byron Dorgan

If the republican leadership had any cojones, we would have heard something from them today about such blatant overstepping of Senators’ sanity/insanity, as you wish, and power, and would have begun action against them.

Bloggers should ‘never’ sleep – they are becoming the most immediately accountable groups.

Entelechy on September 8, 2006 at 6:18 PM

President Bush wants film to be interrupted by his speech. ABC will do what now? Why this tactic?

I’m also having a headache AP.

Entelechy on September 8, 2006 at 6:21 PM

His performance above reminded me of a woman who’s been dumped and whose ex is telling everybody exactly why.

Anwyn on September 8, 2006 at 6:27 PM

Man, ProgressoFascism is really on the rise!

fas·cism (făsh’ĭzəm)
——————————————————————————–

[Italian fascismo, from fascio, group, from Late Latin fascium, from Latin fascis, bundle.]

noun

A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
Oppressive, dictatorial control.

“Do as I say, not as I do.”

The hypocrite’s credo.

speed647 on September 8, 2006 at 7:17 PM

Oops, sorry, didn’t finish the point:

pro·gres·sive (prə-grĕs’ĭv)
——————————————————————————–

adjective
Moving forward; advancing.
Proceeding in steps; continuing steadily by increments: progressive change.Promoting or favoring progress toward better conditions or new policies, ideas, or methods: a progressive politician; progressive business leadership.
Of or relating to a Progressive Party: the Progressive platform of 1924.
Of or relating to progressive education: a progressive school.
Increasing in rate as the taxable amount increases: a progressive income tax.
Pathology Tending to become more severe or wider in scope: progressive paralysis.
Grammar Designating a verb form that expresses an action or condition in progress.
noun
A person who actively favors or strives for progress toward better conditions, as in society or government.
A member or supporter of a Progressive Party.
Grammar A progressive verb form.
derivatives
pro·gres’sive·ly
adverb
pro·gres’sive·ness
noun

So, ProgressoFascism, (while sounding like some sort of spaghetti topping), is actually the moving forward in steps, progressing, advancing the suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship. And it has the side benefit of increasing taxes, through a type of pathology that steadily becomes more severe.

NTWR on September 8, 2006 at 7:24 PM

I guess we will be lucky to see this video on youtube.

gary on September 8, 2006 at 7:48 PM

Everyone’s talking about Clinton’s objection to lying – but he’s not objecting to possible lies being told. He’s objecting to the truth being told. He’s a big boy, he knows the difference. He knows what he’s doing.

An now I urge you to note any candidates on that letter to ABC and donate to their opponents. I will definitely be donated to Ms. Stabenow’s opponent – Sheriff Michael Bouchard and I will let HER know why!

jeannedb on September 8, 2006 at 8:32 PM

This just boggles the mind.

And a boggled mind is of no use to anyone.

I really love their reaction to this.

I fully expect Iger to be seated next to Laura at the R convention.

With an eyepatch on!! RRRRRRRRRRs!

daveintexas on September 8, 2006 at 8:43 PM

What?

Clinton wants “people” to “tell the truth”?

ABSOLUTELY!! ABC should amend it’s “docu-DRAMA” to PRECISELY “tell the truth”! It should include commentary about Jamie Gorelick, who imposed the strictest rules possible about sharing information between “intelligence” information and “criminal” information, about BEING a MEMBER of the 9/11 Commission. It should exactly mirror the FACTS of the 9/11 Commission Report. It should PRECISELY report ALL of the REFUSED opportunities to kill Osama Bin Laden, in their excruciating details! No artistic license should be granted.

Who knows, since I’m not important enough to see any of these pre-previews of the “Path to 9/11″ movies, maybe I’m IN IT? (In the remote chance that I’m represented in the ABC movie, assuming it EVER airs, nobody ever consulted me who should play my role – Sean Connery is too old, and I don’t “identify” with any of the current Hollywierd crowd.) I happen to actually BE an un-named person (in Chapter 11, as I recall – I have my very own four-line paragraph, plus a footnote that hints to who I was) who raised the possibility of this style of attack. In the event the movie ever airs, I sort of look forward to it.

Not a Dhimmicrat on September 8, 2006 at 8:53 PM

Stanley also states: “The Sept. 11 commission concluded that the sex scandal distracted the Clinton administration from the terrorist threat.”

Yet the claim is nothing was harmed by the president’s behavior harmed no-one

RustMouse on September 8, 2006 at 9:25 PM

And this from a man named bilary who would rather climb mount Everest and lie, than stand on flat ground and tell the truth, when telling the truth would do better.

Lying cigar sucker.

We need to stop calling Democrats Fascists, that term actually lends some creedence to liberalism, undeservedly.

However the Democrats ARE America’s Communist party.
All must rise, Chairman Dean is ready to address our most humble assembledge.

Perhaps if our immigration laws are enforced, the Peoples Republik will not rise again. The voters are pissed, will THEY be appeased?

Speakup on September 8, 2006 at 10:28 PM

Clinton and Sandy Berger have been complaining about “lying” and “dishonesty”. Both are poltroons, hypocrits and psychopathic liars who enjoy slapping around the Kathleen Willeys of this world. What will we do if their party gains control in November?

“Excuse me, sir, your shirttail is hanging out. Oops, I’m sorry it’s only a TOP SECRET document.. Never mind.”

MaiDee on September 9, 2006 at 12:24 AM

Josh Wheadon is supposedly coming out with a “Wonder Woman” movie. Wonder Woman has that ‘Golden Lasso’which makes anyone tied up in it tell the truth. Who wouldn’t like to see both Clintons, AlGorebot, Harry Reid, Pelosi, etc.-the whole gang lassoed one at a time and grilled as to their past? Bill Clinton’s ‘Lasso cofessions’ alone would be worth paying to see as a Pay Per View event.
As Wonder Woman is pure fantasy, we have to rely on the tried and true:Whatever they say should be considered a lie until proven truthful.
