The article states that the network was waiting for federal approval on its purposed acquisition of new stations. That approval is the province of the FCC. Duh.

The threats were implied. There was upcoming legislation that Viacom needed passed, and it couldn’t be done without strong Republican support. Republicans including the RNC chairman were coming out strong about the upcoming series, demanding that it be changed.

Oh, how pathetically weak, and doubly hypocritical from a supposed civil libertarian as yourself. Implied threats? Can you show me one, just one instance of them actually threatening to revoke CBS’s license over that program? No, you can’t, so you come up with your “implied threats” bullshit in order to give the democrats a free pass on threatening to censor an entire network’s programming by revoking it’s license if they broadcast something unfavorable. Some civil libertarian you are.
