(A gallon-sized hat tip to Newsbusters)
Malachy McCourt, Green Party candidate for the NY governorship and brother of author Frank McCourt, appeared on yesterday’s edition of Hardball. When asked about his opinion on the death penalty, McCourt said he was only in favor of it if it would be used against President Bush.
Matthews made his opinion of McCourt quite clear: he was absolutely appalled that someone would even suggest using capital punishment on the President of the United States he told him “I like you already”.
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Look, let me ask you this. Where are you on capital punishment?
MALACHY MCCOURT: Capital punishment? I think that if, if I’ve got to find that guy in Spain who indicted Pinochet and get him for war crimes, and I get him to do the same thing for Bush. And in that case, I would be for capital punishment. Otherwise, I am against it. Spitzer, who is the other guy running here, he is for capital punishment for those who kill policemen. Well, my son is a cop in New York, and if somebody killed my son, and it wouldn’t do me any good or give me any satisfaction to sit there in some death house in Sing Sing and watch them put some other person to death because they killed my son. That would not cheer me up one bit, Chris.
MATTHEWS: You just sound like a liberal Democrat, Malachy.

Chris Matthews to Green Candidate Calling for Bush Execution, wrapping up interview with ‘I Like You Already’, proves what some of us have known for a while now - BDS has consumed what once was not so bad mind.
Hopeless and sad.

Oops, good thing I’m not a brain surgeon…
s/b “BDS has consumed what once was not so bad a mind”.
Entelechy on September 6, 2006 at 9:07 PM
Entelechy,
Don’t feel bad. You should see how brain surgeons write.
On topic, this really is disgusting, as aptly demonstrated above by Mortis.
mikeyboss on September 6, 2006 at 9:18 PM
I see this more as bad humor by just another BDS suffering lib… My main issue is the double standard. Imagine a GOPer saying this?
RightWinged on September 6, 2006 at 9:31 PM
He wouldn’t want the death penalty for someone who kills his son but he would want the death penalty for the President. This man is not sane.

Several months ago the celebrated Left-wing cartoonist (oh brother) Ted Rall was being interviewed by Michal Medved on Medved’s radio show. The subject turned to capital punishment and Rall stated he was completely against any form of capital punishment. The conversation turned to Karl Rove and at one point Rall said that Karl Rove should be executed as a traitor to the country. What you’ve got here is a simple fact, the Left is the Left is the Left is the Left. A Marx is Lenin is a Stalin is a Pol Pot is a Fidel Castro is a Ted Rall etc… etc… ad nauseum. The Left is the Left is the Left.
Kevin R on September 6, 2006 at 9:45 PM
Amen to that Rose. I think that old Malachy has had a wee bit too much of the crater. I say that as an American of Irish descent. As long as the left has the MSM no one outside of the few people who watch Matthew’s show will ever hear about this. But as others have mentioned if a Republican said this, well look out.

Despicable, yet I’m glad that the ‘greenies’ are getting their message out. I’m sure it will be a big help when people are asked to vote the democratic ticket as they are the owners of the “I Hate Bush” message, and will thus be linked to that BDS.
DannoJyd on September 6, 2006 at 10:48 PM
MSNBC and the Dems continue to circle the drain. Matthews has gone loony and Malachy had a real Dukakis moment there. Useless idiots, the both of them. But, of course, we can’t question their patriotism! They just want the president dead, that’s all. Not Kim Jong Il, not Mahmoud Amahdinejad - they want Bush dead. Good lord.

I remember watching Chris back in 1998 and I’m telling you he has really turned the nutroot corner on a hard left. My God, with that freek making the Assasination movie and all the other Lefty nutroots blogging his death and now he agrees with some major assclown here there’s just nowhere left to ‘down’, ‘rockbotttom’ unless someone can come up with a better description. bonkers. Gone. Totally looned out. Geez.
These are the people who are putting my life and yours and your familes at major risk, trying to demoralize our troops and opening our contry to attack. Gloves are off peeps. They’re toast.

First I saw this interview and he was clearly being facetious. And how is this different than what Ann Coulter said about Lincoln Chaffee?
honora on September 7, 2006 at 10:08 AM
Looks like someone ran an age progression for Matthews!!!
Dread Pirate Roberts VI on September 7, 2006 at 10:15 AM
Anne is intellectually honest.
MikeG on September 7, 2006 at 10:31 AM
Let me restate my question: And how is this different than what Ann Coulter said about Lincoln Chaffee?
honora on September 7, 2006 at 10:43 AM
Shocking really. He came across as such a nice, warm, stable person in his brother’s autobiography.
Tanya on September 7, 2006 at 11:04 AM
Gotta love the lefties. Not a political debate around that can’t be ended with a firing squad. Yes, Mr. Bush, I could debate and give you an intellectual thrashing, but, since I’m late for my massage appointment, I’ll have you shot instead. And Matthews doesn’t even blink. What a sick bunch of freaking pukes.
austinnelly on September 7, 2006 at 11:06 AM
Well, gee. you think the difference might be that one of them is a political pundit and the other is running for public office?
MikeG on September 7, 2006 at 11:11 AM
..and one is a member of one of the 2 major parties and one is from a fringe movement. Nonetheless, my question is, why is it so awful from this guy and just Ann being a fun kinda gal when she makes these remarks?
honora on September 7, 2006 at 11:48 AM
Ann makes a point. What point did MALACHY MCCOURT make? That he would rather see a killer of his children live, but not a sitting President.
Sweet! [sarc]
DannoJyd on September 7, 2006 at 12:35 PM
Her point being “they assassinated the wrong Lincoln”. Gee, call me dense, but I see that as a lame and mean spirited bit of word play. But no doubt I lack the ability to appreciate such rapier wit.
honora on September 7, 2006 at 12:51 PM
Well, as I recall Ann was quickly slammed by conservatives and libs alike for HER remarks. I’ll stand by to see how many libs go after Chris.
gary on September 7, 2006 at 3:54 PM
Honora, you are absolutely right. Its no different except that Ann’s purpose is to defend America from those who would destroy it and this idiot(McCourt)is on the opposite team. Now, I know you are on our team (by that, I mean the same one as Ann and I). So, if thats the case, then why bring it up? You sound like you buy into the idea that politics should be pretty and why can’t we all get along and such. Politics is a war of ideas. Don’t confuse the terms fair and nice. I would never accuse the left of playing nice but fairness is for children. It follows that if they won’t play nice, then why should we?
RobertCSampson on September 7, 2006 at 4:09 PM
RobertCS: I was pointing out the rampant hypocrisy of the far right (and far left): our knucklehead says something untoward, well it’s all in the defense of America, they’re our generation’s Rebalais/Twain; your knucklehead says something untoward, well this is yet another sign of moral decay, idiocy, treason etc etc ad nauseum.
Dreary, dreary, unoriginal cretins. If you must be so dogmatic, at least try to be less predictable. Perhaps an original dogmatic is an oxymoron?
At some point, the sheer stupidity (one would think) would dawn on people. But alas.
honora on September 7, 2006 at 4:18 PM
You said it so eloquently honora - with such a high I.Q., such erudition and originality, how can you be so unrealistic as to expect “sheer stupidity” to “dawn” on stupid/cretin people?
You have only yourself to blame for your illusions and delusions.
Entelechy on September 7, 2006 at 9:04 PM
I know, I know. Hope springs eternal I guess.
