I agree that it's not a good turn of events. But I think there's more to the story than ABC initially reported. And I think knee-jerking to slam Bush on this misses the fact that around the world we're not dealing with robots but with real live people who have agendas, issues and problems of their own. This business of slamming Bush for every single ill in the world is a consistent problem on the left and right and I find it tiresome. Presidents aren't gods, they're men. And in Bush's case, he's dealing with international problems on an unprecedented scale, some of which he inherited from his predecessors, some of which grew up entirely independent of any American action or inaction, some of which were fostered by our old enemies in the USSR and have outlived that enemy, and none of which seem to have easy or even good solutions.

I'm sorry to say that Osama is the least of our worries with this agreement made between Musharraf and the "Taliban council in North Waziristan" which is now officially known as “Islamic Emirate of Waziristan."

Initial rosy reports on this deal are entirely off base although I agree wholeheartedly with your take regarding the Osama quotes. The problem is it isn't clear how the Pakistani army would be able to go in and get him if Osama set up shop there. And you can bet that that we'd have our hands full if we went in ourselves to take him down.

So while the Pakistanis may not let him live in peace, they may not be able to do a whole lot even if Osama wants to make war.
