Edward R. Murrow wannabe Keith Olbermann did another one of his rating-boosting “special comment” attacks on the Bush administration tonight. This time, he slams “Mr.” Bush:
A few excerpts of Olbermann’s rant:
The attempt to link, by the simple expediency of one word—“media”—the honest, patriotic, and indeed vital questions and questioning from American reporters, with the evil of Al-Qaeda propaganda.
One must wonder why Keith likes to refer to himself as patriotic, when no one is questioning his patriotism. Guilty conscience?
Whatever the true nature of al Qaeda and other international terrorist threats, to ceaselessly compare them to the Nazi State of Germany serves only to embolden them.
Why does Olbermann get angry when al Qaeda and Bin Laden are compared to Nazis? Does he not think the two are as much as a threat as fascism was during Nazi rule?
Other news on OlbyPlanet: it looks as if Keith isn’t the MSNBC superstar he thought he was, as the cable dwarf may close down its operations in Secaucus (where Olbermann’s show is taped) and condense it to “30 Rock”. Also, Olbermann Watch notes who’s missing from MSNBC’s election coverage promo.

He’s the first one to be calling people Nazis, yet doesn’t like it when modern-day Nazis are referred to as Nazis.
If you really want him to go nuts, tell him Hitler was a leftist. Before long, he’s telling you to kill yourself.
Try it. It’s fun.
JammieWearingFool on September 5, 2006 at 9:45 PM
…and he likes the Nazi salute…
Entelechy on September 5, 2006 at 9:47 PM
Maybe he got a better offer from Air America? That would be a good move for him as I believe that he would fit right in.
DannoJyd on September 5, 2006 at 9:51 PM
Nothing like the mail archive from Keith:
“Or do you follow W’s lead – totally wrong, bullshit everybody, get asked, pretend you’re deaf.
Hey, save the oxygen for somebody whose brain can use it. Kill yourself.”
JammieWearingFool on September 5, 2006 at 9:52 PM
Back at you, megalomaniac and/or great pretender and also buffoon extraordinaire. It’s like an ant talking about an elephant…
Olby’s so full of hot air that one has the impression he’ll lift off any second…
Entelechy on September 5, 2006 at 9:54 PM
I say we ignore this buffoon and maybe he’ll disappear in the move to 30 Rock….
d1carter on September 5, 2006 at 9:55 PM
if we ignore him maybe he will go away

Redefining Patriotism to fit their anti-Americanism is just more of their hollow words. A Patriot doesn’t support those who wish to destroy their country.
Clearly, the left would love to see this country decimated so they could waltz back into power.
Patriot? They have no clue to what the word even means.
LewWaters on September 5, 2006 at 10:04 PM
This is hilarious!!!!!!! From the left, who have beat the term BushHitler into the ground, comes the accusation that Bush has been doing this “unceasingly” to his critics. Hey Olbermann, project much??
He just blew the circuits on my irony meter.

I guess this shows that history for journalists is truly an elective
Defector01 on September 5, 2006 at 10:12 PM

RobCon on September 5, 2006 at 10:13 PM
I’m glad there is someone in the corporate media who will call this corrupt administration on their lies. Lots of lemmings in this thread.
YOU GO KEITH!

why are we following this guy? It’s like a message board or chat room fight that just wont die.

Another raving psychotic moment. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along…
wccawa on September 5, 2006 at 11:19 PM
I that dolt had any talent or intellect he’d have a real job.
rplat on September 5, 2006 at 11:24 PM
Hi “duffyb”. Figured you’d be checking in to see if anyone responded to you. chirp… chirp The crickets are for you child. Now go and play.
Olberman… whose intellectual capabilities could muster nothing better than a Nazi salute to insult Bill O’Reilly (noticeably… when O’Reilly wasn’t around to pound him), is insulted by comparing modern day fascists to Hitler era fascists?
Yes… Keith… you are quite the “useful idiot.”

Note to AP, even though Ian originated this post…
You might have 4 liberals now…

There is a news channel called msnbc?
I thought it was like the Comedy channel.
Kini on September 6, 2006 at 12:19 AM
Ironic that someone who HAS no decency is asking another if he has any. No wonder MSNBCan’tSee is tanking.
MsUnderestimated on September 6, 2006 at 12:35 AM
I don’t understand Keith’s confusion on this one (and he is clearly confused).
How, again, does a group of violently anti-Semitic (genocidal) tyrants with plans for world domination not compare to a group of violently anti-Semitic (genocidal) tyrants with plans for world domination?
Olberman was never all that bright (even among the ESPN crowd), but I think this has less to do with his being a moron and more to do with their long-standing fear that the American people will catch on to the fact that Bush has been right all along, and that we do face a gathering threat that is analogous to 1930’s Nazi Germany. If they say it over and over again, and in the most somber yet emphatic tones they can muster, then maybe… just maybe… people will fall for it long enough to vote for their party of choice in the fall.
DaveS on September 6, 2006 at 12:46 AM
I love this stuff. I hope he keeps doing them.
Alex K on September 6, 2006 at 1:45 AM
So he’s trying to embolden O’Reilly?
Jim Treacher on September 6, 2006 at 2:39 AM
Are you implying that they are as much of a threat? There’s nothing in their history of violence or their potential for violence that even puts them in the same ballpark as the Nazis.
Evil motivations do not a Nazi-level threat make. Frankly, I think comparing terrorists to Nazis in terms of their threat is insulting to the memory of the tens of millions of people who died because of the Nazis and their war and their extermination efforts.
Mark Jaquith on September 6, 2006 at 3:23 AM
Mark, study your history. The Jihadists conquered all of North Africa and much of mediterranean Europe. Since being driven out, they’ve been champing at the bit to get their ‘Empire’ back.
For another correlation between the terrorists and the Nazis, did you not pay attention to the President, even in the brief clip Olby deigned to include? Adolf Hitler told the world what he intended to do, then proceeded to do it. That’s not a distotion of history; it happened, and he would have succeeded had not the world finally woke up and resisted. The Islamic Jihadists have stated numerous times their intent to bring the middle east together under sharia law and reinstate the caliphate, as well as exhorting those of us in the West to convert to Islam or die.
Not much ambiguous about that is there? It would be insulting to those who died to secure our Freedom to acquiesce to such demands, I think.
Jezla on September 6, 2006 at 7:40 AM
They don’t have the numbers or the weapons or the organization required to do it. Hitler had these things, in addition to the will to do it. I have no doubt that if al Qaeda possessed these things, they wouldn’t hesitate to conquer the world. But they don’t, so global Islamic domination shouldn’t be a threat on anyone’s radar. Regional conflicts and occasional attacks by Islamic criminal organizations are the threats being faced. Compared to things like Hitler’s rampage of Europe or Japanese invasion of the American mainland, Islamic Jihad is small potatoes.
I’m not converting. There. Now that voluntary conversion and a hostile takeover of this country have been ruled out, my freedom is safe from Islamic extremists. And all before breakfast.
Mark Jaquith on September 6, 2006 at 8:05 AM
They don’t need to conquer the world by force. Why else are they called ‘terrorists’? Look at the governments who capitulate to their threats, and the governments who actively support them. How many so-called moderate Muslims actually come out and denounce the Jihadists? These groups are more than just criminal organizations. You can’t take away the threat by belittling it. I glad to see you say that you won’t convert. I won’t either, but that doesn’t mean we can shut the book on them.
Jezla on September 6, 2006 at 8:18 AM
Mark, your wrong and it was thinking like yours that led to the emergence of “real” Nazis. Hitler never attacked New York and never got an atom bomb like the Islamofacists have done and would like to do. Lets not wait around and find out if getting nukes turns Iran into a liberal democracy.
And in 20 years they will have the numbers in places like Europe. Please read more on the subject. We in the West cannot afford to be ignorant anymore.
RobCon on September 6, 2006 at 8:24 AM
Hitler didn’t have these things, he lost remember? He thought he did, so he tried anyway. Militant Islam has Allah on their side, and are about to become nuclear capable.
Let me repeat, we don’t want to wait until they have the ability to conquer the world to fight back, for what I would think are obvious reasons.
Germany and Japan both started with regional conflicts, and where dismissed by people like you at the time, who somehow feel it is best to wait until the threat is full-blown and imminent and then spend millions of lives putting it down. The jihadis are never going to have a massive army and air force with a big “we are serious” flag flying above them. They work in a very different manner, less obvious but all the more insidious.

Mr. Oldermann should move to Eurabia, where he’ll be welcomed as a great and wise man.
Honestly, it’s hard to tell whether the Olbermanns of the world actually believe this nonsense, or whether in their sick compulsion to aid and comfort the enemy they feel they need to bluff and bluster to cover their tracks and their rears. In any case, somewhere in their deeply shamed hearts they have to know that al-Qaeda smiles at their every broadcast word.

After their Krystalnaght-style street riots (euphemistically called “anti-war“) spewing hate-America bile throughout American cities, where do Leftists find the temerity to climb up on the hindlegs and howl about comparisons with Hitler?
Terp Mole on September 6, 2006 at 9:25 AM
Marx was correct. In the 18th Brumaire he said that history repeats itself, first as tragedy then as farce. Thanks to Mr. Olbermann for clarifying the difference between Edward R. Murrow and himself.

It must be exhausting for Olby to have to keep moving the goal posts around.
Mallard T. Drake on September 6, 2006 at 10:58 AM
Umm…I sure as hell question it. All he wants to do is undermine this administration. According to Fox’s John Gibson, when Uberman was on MSNBC the first time around, he refused to criticize Bubba Clinton for anything. Nowadays, the guy doesn’t stop talking about the evil Bush. There is no patriotism, only liberal loyalty. And to think I actually liked this moron when he was on Sportscenter.
Rick on September 6, 2006 at 11:44 AM
Interesting that Olbermann insists on burnishing his “patriotism” credentials when nobody was questioning them. Had a similar experience a couple of days ago during a debate with a lefty relative, who suddenly blurted out, “I’m a patriot!!” while blaming America and Israel for everything that’s wrong with the world.
What Olbie and his ilk don’t want to recognize is that the only people labeling others as “unpatriotic” and “un-American” are those of the leftist persuasion – indeed I just heard a donkey party representative calling Donald Rumsfeld “unpatriotic” for daring to suggest that modern-day appeasers are as wrong as their 1930s counterparts.
I question the American left’s courage; I question their judgment; I question their moral compass. I don’t have to question their “patriotism,” because it’s really a case of Res ipse loquitur: “The thing speaks for itself.” They’re always effectively questioning their own patriotism through their “Methinks he doth protest too much” insistence that they’re “patriots” – when nobody has ever said that they’re not.
Makes me wonder why they’re so touchy about the subject …
Spurius Ligustinus on September 6, 2006 at 11:56 AM
Spurius Ligustinus, because the ‘dumb’ electorate questions their patriotism, and they know it!
