“It is foolish to think that you can negotiate with them” –43. It sure is.
I know many Muslims in the U.S. - none are fence-sitters. Those who are not for a caliphate, say clearly that only power is respected by the others.
Can’t speak for the ones outside.
Entelechy on September 5, 2006 at 5:04 PM
I don’t see any sense in worrying what the handful of “fence sitters” think. Way too many things have happened for these people to be “fence sitters” anyway. It appears very obvious what side they’re on.
darwin on September 5, 2006 at 5:12 PM
Anyone notice how Bush is ducking the ILLEGAL issue?
Sounds about right to me. Maybe if some Islamic leader spoke out loudly against Islamofacism I could have a different view, but to date their silence is deafening.
DannoJyd on September 5, 2006 at 5:17 PM
Well said, DannoJyd.
Lawrence on September 5, 2006 at 5:24 PM
No, Ahmi a tyrant? The little sweet guy who met with Hugo Chavez and Kofy Annan, just recently. I’m shocked!
Entelechy on September 5, 2006 at 5:31 PM
Please, your Excellency, Mr. Annan, forgive me, I misspelled your first name s/b ‘Kofi’.

I know President Bush is supposed to make these comments in an effort to reach out to “moderate” Muslims, but so far I haven’t seen, met, or heard any Muslims promoting a friendlier Islam that is any different from the radical kind.
In which case I suggest that since we haven’t heard, met, or seen any true moderate Muslims, that maybe they don’t really exist?
All Muslims I know, have heard of, or read about, all support the same Quran and the same Mohammed, and the same Allah. All believe that the world is destined to fall under the rule of Sharia law. All believe that it is NOT sinful to kill infidels. All believe that any method of dying for the sake of their religion guarantees them a seat in heaven, especially if they are killing or murdering infidels.
The terrorists trying to kill us are promoting no different religious doctrine than their so-called moderate peers.
Lawrence on September 5, 2006 at 5:42 PM
Nice words from the President, but I think we need action too. I’ve seen precious few actions backing up the words. Now I know some actions will be covert and perhaps forever unknown, but it seems like all we’re getting is talk.
ScottG on September 5, 2006 at 7:10 PM
All talk, Scott? Whattaya call Afghanistan and Iraq?
I’m glad our C.I.C. understands what the caliphate is, the ummah, dar-al-islam etc etc. Too many people in this nation (almost half, according to the ‘04 election) just don’t get what our enemy is trying to accomplish. It sounds like the plot to a bad James Bond movie, but they really do wanna rule the world. And those of us who don’t convert will either die or live in dhimmitude and pay the jizz-on-ya tax. Funny how libs feeeear us eeeeevil Christians, yet they sympathize with REAL religious fundy wackos who wanna kill, convert or enslave all non-believers. Damn, libs are just … friggin’ … stoopit.

I can’t understand how a Christian like Bush thinks he knows more about what “true Islam” is all about than the Muslims who live it.
But I’ll cut him some slack since he called them perverts.
Perchant on September 6, 2006 at 12:11 AM
AP, you have 4 liberals now…
Entelechy on September 6, 2006 at 12:43 AM
Peaceful religion?? Where is the outrage from the ‘moderate’ muslims about the ‘radicals’ that are ‘hijacking’ thier religon? Either the whole religious body is completely confused or there is an underlying fact that our politico’s are scared to speak of publicly.
IMHO :
Muslims = ReadKoran(Life)
Koran = Extreme(Muslims)
If (Fascism = Mulsim.Practice())
{
Kill.Infidel(West)
}
TakeAdvantage(Press.American.Left)
If (Press.American.Left == True)

Hope you all understand :-)
PS - Go Get Dave Limbaugh’s new book. Great ammunition!
lsutiger on September 6, 2006 at 1:28 AM
Yep, there are no moderate muslims. You can’t be a moderate and a muslim at the same time. And those that act nice are just lying, because it is okay to lie to the infidel. Islam must be outlawed in America!!!
LZVandy on September 6, 2006 at 6:55 AM
There are no moderate LZVandys.
Mark Jaquith on September 6, 2006 at 7:28 AM
WHAT FENCE?!?! This is a black and white issue–no grey areas here. Violent jihadists v. “vast majority of peaceful muslims.” Exactly what are these fence-sitters pondering? Hmmm, let’s see. Should I behead these infidels or let ‘em live?
Fence my arse.
IrishEi on September 6, 2006 at 8:16 AM
I was having a hard time explaining this to my liberal friends either because it’s so complex or because they’re so dense. Anyway, I tried a new approach:
Muslims who blow stuff up are the ones who follow islam the way is meant to be practiced, like a “good Catholic”. The muslims who DON’T blow stuff up are like “Easter Catholics”. Even Easter Catholics will still cheer for Notre Dame when they’re playing, right? “Ramadan muslims” will still cheer for their “team” (terrorists) when they’re “playing”. Easter Catholics are still Christians. Ramadan muslims are still muslims and they still root for their “team”. They identify with our enemies and their unholy book, that roll of toilet paper they call the koran, says it’s justified to lie to us infidels to advance islam, never forget that. It also tells them that when losing a battle, ask for peace, then regroup, rearm and attack again. Watch them carefully, they can’t be trusted.
Tony737 on September 6, 2006 at 9:19 AM
Tony,
I used a very similar analogy several weeks ago (I think on jihadwatch.org)
–Good Catholics go to Church every Sunday; lax Catholics do not.
–Good muslims take part in jihad; lax muslims do not.
Your analogy is more focused; hope you won’t mind if I borrow it!

I started thinking about this whole Nazi business Bush is pushing on his “This Time with Feeling” tour: leader of country with economic malaise and growing fear of globalization and infiltration by “others” stokes existing fears and focuses feelings of rage and impotence among population against a non-Christian religion. People of this faith are tarred with the same brush with breathtaking ignorance:
Food for thought: Jews were disproportionately represented in the leadership ranks of the Bolseviks and in banking circles in the 20’s and 30’s. Imagine going from that to genocide…..thank God we’ve grown as a civilization.
honora on September 6, 2006 at 10:41 AM
The only “breathtaking ignorance” I see around here emanates from your post, honora.
Take your moral equivalency tripe elsewhere.
IrishEi on September 6, 2006 at 11:12 AM
I can’t wait for the feminists to “support” this - talk about “moderation” and “fence-sitting”
Entelechy on September 6, 2006 at 11:15 AM
No, I won’t. Typical right wing response though: how dare someone disagree with me!!
honora on September 6, 2006 at 11:32 AM
I would welcome a debate, but if all you’ve got is the tired moral equivalency argument, it’s just a waste of everyone’s time.
Guess it’s time to blow the dust off Patrick Henry’s great song again. Enjoy.

Sorry, Honora, Jaquith and other intellectually bankrupt libs lurking around here - your so-called “arguments” are so riddled with generalities, name-calling and porous logic as to be beneath a dignified response. However, at risk of getting something smelly on my shoes by even engaging you here, I have to wonder whether libs like yourselves and other Kos Kiddies are displaying actual breathtaking ignorance, or worse, a level of incomprehensible stupidity that prevents you from rationally analyzing factual information. Which is it? Ahh.. maybe just the typical product of today’s liberal education/indoctrination - the complete inability to think.
Benthoven on September 6, 2006 at 12:26 PM
You’re absolutely right. I’m going to slowly back out of the room now….
honora on September 6, 2006 at 12:38 PM
Heh. Infinitive splitter.
IrishEi on September 6, 2006 at 12:48 PM
Irish, of course you can use it. Matter O’Fact you can even claim it :-)
Honora, ignorance is not knowing. But we DO know. We have 1,300 years of history PLUS the koran itself PLUS the hadiths (post-koranic writings) PLUS the terrorists own words on what they wanna do and how they plan to do it. They’re following the same playbook that muslims have been using since about 635 AD. You can disagree all ya want, but please don’t come in here with that “You guys are ignorant” crap. I don’t know how much research you’ve done on islam so I won’t accuse you of being ignorant on the subject, but I’ve been watching it, paying attention to it and reading up on it since 1979, so please don’t don’t accuse me of ignorance. Debate me, yes, please, that’ll be fun, entertaining and interesting, but don’t call me ignorant. Thanks.
Tony737 on September 6, 2006 at 12:49 PM
Irish, it also helps when talking to your lib friends to use pop culture as a guide. Libs just LOVE pop culture, they’re experts on it. On terrorism I use a scene from “The Terminator” to help explain islamic terrorists to libs…
Kyle to Sarah: “LISTEN! … and understand, those terrorists are out there. They can’t be bargained with, they can’t be reasoned with, they don’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and they absolutely WILL NOT STOP, EVER! …until you are dead.”
And somehow it seems to sink in, at least a few hours anyway!
Tony737 on September 6, 2006 at 1:29 PM
I’m not a liberal. So I guess that makes you the intellectually bankrupt name-caller. Kidding.
LZVandy said this:
These are extreme positions (and ignorant and bigoted to boot). I called her out on them. Spare me your cookie-cutter “liberal education, inability to think” rant.
Mark Jaquith on September 6, 2006 at 1:35 PM
Anyone watch “Triple Cross” on the National Geographic channel?
I watched it last night. It should be mandatory viewing for the general public.
The fact that there is not a “moderate” for Muslims is outlined well, by a Muslim. THE Muslim who fooled our Army, the CIA, and the FBI into letting him in and around our sensitive Green Beret training camps, stole our handbooks on training, used the info to train jerks at Bin Laden’s camps, and was involved in the planning of every major terrorist attack.
And who will now be given Geneva convention rights despite not wearing a uniform, or targeting the military. Sweet.
He said that it’s in the Koran- he has no say. If you are to be a Muslim, you must wage Jihad against the infidels until none are left.
As an aside, I heard that in Iraq, if you aren’t Sunni, you ain’t Shi’ite.
NTWR on September 6, 2006 at 2:01 PM
I saw it NTWR. It’s on again Thursday I think.
Excellent show. Left me fuming! Couldn’t fathom that it took so long for everyone to catch on to that dirtbag. And worse–reminded me of all the times we did absolutely nothing when Americans and American interests were attacked.
It’s In the Koran. Indeed.
IrishEi on September 6, 2006 at 2:49 PM
I think this was an excellent speech by Pres Bush! One of the best I’ve heard from a national leader regarding Islam.
There is just one thing that I disagree with him on: It is not only Sunni Muslims who have this ideology of the caliphate.
