How’s that for a headline?

Rusty’s calling it an exclusive:

Shiekh Omar Bakri Mohammed, the exiled British Muslim cleric, was detained by Lebanese police last week and then released after passing a bribe. He was questioned about his possible involvement with the foiled sky terror plot. Bakri denied any involvement…

Bakri Mohammed claims that he was shown pictures of suspects in the plot to blow up American bound airplanes by the Lebanese authorities questioning him. He admitted to them that he had met some of the alleged plotters, but claims he did not know them by name…

Bakri was also asked by his al-Muhajiroun followers about jihad training and recruitment at the Jameah Islameah School. Bakri indicated that he knew the school’s owner, Balil Patel. Bakri seemed to be pleased that the Patel was not among those arrested.

He’s also got YouTube video of newly arrested Islamist messenger Abu Abdullah ranting about Freemasons, the Illuminati, and the antichrist. What a beacon of learning Britain will be fifty years from now.

Exit poll: one in ten.

One in ten of British Asians (Americans, take note that “Asians” in Britain means people originating from the Indian sub-continent — i.e. Pakistanis, Indians and Bangladeshis). This includes Muslims, Hindus, Christians, and what have you. It is interesting that they don’t give results by religion … just lumping all the Asians into one category.

Hey AP? Come on man, today is labor day. Meaning it’s supposed to be a day of rest for all those who labor. Which can include laboring over a computer lo these many months to bring us these news updates and summaries.

You’ve done a man’s job here ever since you started this gig. Take a day off. You earned it. Shouldn’t you be delivering pork sausage to Mary K? Or is she going to give you a honey baked ham? I’m not sure. Both of you were right in that secret hold contest so I guess both of you owe something to each other. Whatever works for the two of you.

I’m chilling out, enjoying the sun, and feeling the buzz of some good beer, and enjoying the company of some friends and ladies. Heh. Hopefully, you are too.

Here is a primer on “British Asians”:

According to the 2001 UK Census there are 2.33 million British Asians, making up 4% of the population of the United Kingdom. This further subdivides to 1.05 million of Indian origin (1.8% of the population), 747,000 of Pakistani origin (1.3%), 283,000 of Bangladeshi origin (0.5%), and 247,000 from other Asian origins (0.4%) (largely of Sri Lankan origin). British Asians make up 50.2% of the UK’s non-white population. British Indians tend to be religiously diverse, with 45% Hindu, 29% Sikh, and 13% per cent Muslim, while their counterparts of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin are much more religiously homogeneous, with Muslims accounting for 92% of each group.[1]

In terms of key demographic measures, the two Asian groups, Indians and Pakistani/Bangladeshis have developed significant differences. The unemployment rate in Indians in UK is about 7%, comparable to that of the White British. On the other hand Bangladeshis have among the highest unemployment rates of 13-14% [2] with Pakistani having around 11% [3] The Indian pupils are likely to achieve among the highest grades in schools where as Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are likely to score lower [4]. Indians are more likely than the White British to have college degrees, where as Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are less likely [5].

This makes the 10% figure even worse. According to the british census, 56.3% of british asians are muslim. Assuming that the non-muslims are not voiceing support for honor killings, that means that roughly 17.8% of british asian muslims support honor killings.

From the article:

Navid Akhtar, a journalist who has been examining the issue, said honour was ingrained into Asian society.

“Most of the Asians who are in Britain today come from very tribal communities.

“Honour is a big deal, it’s kind of caught up with your property, it’s caught up with your women and if anybody comes close to threatening you, you have to avenge your honour.”

Really? How many Hindu, Sikh, and Christian families in Asian society murder their daughters? How many murder them for the ridiculous reasons given by these muslim families? Female genital mutilation is another distinctly muslim practice that is constantly spun, as this article is doing with honor killings, as not really being a muslim practice at all.

Female genital cutting is today mainly practiced in African countries. It is common in a band that stretches from Senegal in West Africa to Somalia on the East coast, as well as from Egypt in the north to Tanzania in the south. In these regions, it is estimated that more than 95% of all women have undergone this procedure. It is also practiced by some groups in the Arabian peninsula [11], especially among a minority (20%) in Yemen. The majority of Muslim countries (except in parts of sub-Saharan Africa) do not practice it

Hey there, Drifter? You might not have noticed, but this is America, and we don’t use no fancy Eu-ro-PEE-an way of spellin’.

It’s labor, not la-bour.
It’s color, not co-lour.
It’s pancakes, not crepes.

Durn ferriners and their durn ferreign spellin’s.

EFG on September 4, 2006 at 5:35 PM

THeDRiFTeR, just because most muslims don’t practice FGM doesn’t make it a distinctly muslim practice. Most muslims don’t kill their daughters either, yet honor killings remain a distinctly muslim practice. Following your logic, attending a Christian church in America would not be a distinctly Christian practice if most Christians didn’t go to church.

Besides, if you bothered to read that whole wikipedia article, or read other sources, instead of skimming for a counter-quote, you would know that FGM is practiced in many muslim countries to varying degrees, just not as openly as it is in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Additionally, failure to outlaw, or failure to punish as modern society would expect for such practices (murder and mutilation) is tacit approval. People in muslim countries often get a slap on the wrist or no punishment at all. Contrast this with the consequences in western countries.

THeDRiFTeR, just because most muslims don’t practice FGM doesn’t make it a distinctly muslim practice.

I mis-wrote that sentence. That is what I get for throwing around all those negatives. This is what I meant:

THeDRiFTeR, just because most muslims don’t practice FGM doesn’t mean it is not a distinctly muslim practice.

Hah, this is the internet, I’m sure plenty of people who aren’t living in the United States read this site and post here. All you need an internet connection and literacy in english.

Yeah, I know that kaltes.

I’m just busting his chops a little.

Nothing serious intended.

THeDRiFTeR on September 4, 2006 at 4:33 PM

Drifter, this is actually funny. No, I didn’t fly any flags today, to be sure. Are you British, Canadian, Australian or from NZ, originally? (because of how you spell ‘labour’)

Oh, and happy Labour Day, you bunch of commies.

THeDRiFTeR on September 4, 2006 at 4:33 PM

I wonder to whom he is addressing and in what context? Perhaps he is once again misinformed regarding anything American. Perhaps I am mistaken but from previous “conversations” here with him, I get the idea he is a Brit living in France ( I believe it to be Dordogne?)

labwrs on September 5, 2006 at 1:47 AM

labwrs, comment allez vous mon ami géorgien?

Our Drifter also claimes to still maintain his U.S. citizenship, while living in France, and away from the U.S. since the mid 90s, having voted for a myriad of U.S. presidents before his drifting…once “labour”, always labour :)

Another favorite communist joke (not directed at you Drifter, but you reminded me of communists with your wish):

It is known that red is the commies’ favorite color. In Europe it is also known that white carnations are the symbols of the conservatives. Says a commie to a rightie “you know what you can do with that white carnation? you can stick it into your a-s”. Says the rightie “sorry, the red one is already there”.
