I agree. The NYT is not indicative of the American public as a whole, and neither is this article and it’s comments.

Are the British people really allies of the US anymore? I hate to ask that question, but just go take a look at the UK press’s second straight day of fantasizing about the assassination of President Bush.

Beliefs presented by the writers and readers of the Mail are not necessarily those of the British people as a whole.

Our ally is primarily Tony Blair and his government, and his friendship is not necessarily indicative of the friendship of the British people as a whole.

So really it could go either way.

BTW, the Mail is very anti-American and the two comments? Well Port St Foy is in the Dordogne (France) and Scotland is knee-jerk anti-England so if England (Blair)stands with the USA then they are against the USA.
I have visited the UK over 20 times in the past 10 years and never have witnessed ANY anti-USA sentiment except for expat Brits who live in France.

These are the same people who mounted a campaign in the past few years to deny ANY Israeli academic access to UK institutions. The liberal elite of any country is socialistic and pacifist by definition.
Do not forget that outside of the USA, BBC, BBC World and CNN International provide a steady stream of anti-American programming. I had to get an illegal satellite in Paris to be able to get SKY Network and on that satellite, FOX News.
There is no FOX streaming into Europe outside of Italy. A few of the newspapers like London Times, Telegraph and the tabloid the Sun are mostly pro-USA.
It is amazing to me how portraying a sitting President’s assassination is in any way “entertainment”!

My response to the comment by Jim Chestnut would be, “How, exactly?”

The answer would involve one or several of the following: support for Isreal, neglect of the starving in (insert name impoverished African region here), agression toward (insert name of allegedly persecuted nation here), its activity in Somalia, Vietnam, Korea, Bosnia, Afghanistan, its corporations spreading across the globe, et-frippin’-cetera.

First, as much as I despise the isolationist mentality of the Pat Buchanan types, I feel it is high time we start acting that way. And when the rest of the world needs Americas help, we can turn a blind eye to them. Maybe then they will realize how much good we do in this world and we never are on the side of evil.

Second, if I was to email the White House stating that I planned on assassinating the President, I am sure the Secret Service would be knocking on my door. This guy makes a movie about it and nothing will happen to him. I guess that is what artistic freedoms are all about.
