[...] I wasn’t going to clip this except that Ace IM’d me to say he’d heard this Pretty Vicious Rant was even more Pretty Vicious than usual. It isn’t really. The Nazi analogies have been a staple of his commentary since the very first one 11 months ago. The left likes to snark that for neocons it’s forever 1939 and the new Hitler is perpetually on the brink of invading Poland but as usual, that’s projection: for them it’s forever 1934 and the new Hitler is perpetually on the brink of unleashing the Gestapo. The only surprise here is his suggestion that we’re not suffering under Nazism now, but are rather merely laying the groundwork. [...]

[...] Precisely. They made a showy example of minor misconduct so that they wouldn’t have to address the big problem, just like Olby did yesterday. As much of a moron as he is, even he can’t seriously believe that an obvious joke about attacking Bill O’Reilly is more likely to incite violence than his nightly hysteria about creeping fascism — occasionally replete with Nazi newsreel footage — for the benefit of a nutroots audience that’s excitable enough as is. He’s lucky, in a sense, that his viewership is so tiny: the bigger it gets, the greater the chance that his logic in holding commentators accountable for what their craziest fans do is going to rebound on him in a big way.
[...] Second, no politician or pundit is going to come out publicly in favor of appeasement, no matter how fervently they might believe in its effectiveness. The stigma is too bright and the hint of cowardice too rancid for anyone to emulate the Chamberlain approach, which is precisely why nutroots messiah Keith Olbermann made the analogy he made the other night. We’re left to infer people’s tendencies towards appeasement from their public statements on other subjects, a good example being Kerry’s reference in one of the debates in ‘04 to “passing the global test” before going to war. If he was willing to subject American military power to some sort of international veto in the interests of “peace,” many of us figured, what else would he be willing to compromise on?
If Europe thinks the Israeli response to Hezbollah in Lebanon was "disproportionate," what must normal people think of our waste of time, enery and resources on this mind-numbing Keith Olbermann rant.

Someone said it: doesn't he ever watch tape of his droning nonsense? If his ratings might be indicative of left vs right election results, then Bob Novak is an idiot, too.

Please note: CNN’s were UP the same period by 21%, so the notion that all cable news took a head-dive because of a less dramatic August compared to last year. And I clearly stated that O’R still owned the 8PM slot.

So last August, people turned off CNN to watch Fox's coverage of Katrina et al. After that "show" was over, the CNN viewers returned to their regular viewing habits. The result: Fox's numbers go down and CNN's go up. Fox is so far ahead of CNN that they can take a "28% hit" and still be 160 percent ahead of them in the ratings.

I look forward to your apology.

Keep waiting....

If we'd judge people (and we can't) by belonging to the literati, the literary intelligentsia of the world, here are the insignificant groups:

- a few in the European elite
- J. Kerry, A. Gore and another insignificant literatus
- Bill Clinton - of course Mr. Bush didn't read or give Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" to his girlfriend. He's a cowboy and not that elegant a gent.
- honora and myself (universal literature mandatory early in life - passionate love of reading, which is a good thing)
- a few others - good for them!

How Earth shattering is that?

In addition, all conservative presidents are morrons, from our Left's and the European elitist perspective - no need to dwell too much on this subject.

What I enjoyed on NBC/MSNBC was the Brian W interview with Dubya, wherein he discussed his summer reading: he mentioned he had read :"...three Shakespeares" and that his reading tastes are "ecalectic", which I assume is his version of eclectic. (I have heard people say they read 3 Grishams or 3 Danielle Steeles. Never heard "..three Shakespeares" before.)

You must have learned how to have fun with statistics. This is from MediaWeek:

Fox News Channel was down 28 percent in prime, averaging 1.51 million viewers versus 2.09 million during August 2005, a period marked by the landfall of Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent destruction of New Orleans.

Karl Rove should have engineered another natural disaster for this August so that Fox’s ratings would have climbed to record heights.

Meanwhile with Fox’s ratings down, they still kick the butts of CNN and MSNBC on a nightly basis. Fox:1,511; CNN:902; and MSNBC:371.

And, on Tuesday night, 8/29, 8:00 pm, O’Reilly:476; Zahn:222; Olby:187. Looks like KO is still trailing the pack…..

BTW, all this data is available from Neilson.

Olbermann: Dishonest or Dumb?...

It was one of the guys on the Powerline Blog, commenting about Joe Biden's "Bush-as-Emperor-Augustus" analogy, who presciently pegged Olbermann as well: [Like so many on the left] "An ignoramus pretending to be an intellectual."

The beauty of Being George W. Bush, from the left's perspective, is that like that salt-vampire shape shifter from the original "Star Trek" series, he's can simultaneously be all things to all people - depending on who/what they're thinking of at any given moment:

- He can be a moron incapable of matching the "superior intellect" of John Kerry; or Dr. Evil, fomenting intricate and dastardly conspiracies to "fool" the same John Kerry into voting for the Iraq war.

He can be Adolf Hitler, or Neville Chamberlain. Put him in a room by himself, and he can both threaten Czechoslovakia and sell it out at the same time!

He can be a crude cowboy with a rootin'-tootin' saloon gunslinger approach to government and diplomacy; or the Emperor Augustus, cunningly undermining the foundations of the Republic to install himself as ruler-for-life.

No wonder the left fears and hates the man so much - he's capable of anything!

Actually he’s not. He is normally head to head with PAula Zahn. While O’R still handily wins the 8PM time slot, but the trend continues of Fox ratings eroding–lost 28% viewers compared to last August; CNN was up 21% (All this data is available from Neilson)

Karl Rove should have engineered another natural disaster for this August so that Fox's ratings would have climbed to record heights.

Meanwhile with Fox's ratings down, they still kick the butts of CNN and MSNBC on a nightly basis. Fox:1,511; CNN:902; and MSNBC:371.

And, on Tuesday night, 8/29, 8:00 pm, O'Reilly:476; Zahn:222; Olby:187. Looks like KO is still trailing the pack.....

BTW, all this data is available from Neilson.

thanks for the clarification. maybe it's just a dream of mine that he should be in last place.

I have a very serious question, though: how can these people who are sooooo intellectually dishonest, look themselves in the mirror? And how is it that they are soooooo transparent to us, and yet the majority of moonbats follow them around like dogs in heat? I don't get it. I really don't. Their dishonesty is PROVEN time and time again and yet they are STILL believed. Can someone help me out here?

Take the Valerie Plame incident. Moonbats were absolutely CONVINCED that it was some Rovian plot - all kinds of misinformation and all-out lies were reported. The liberals believed it. And now that it has been shown that Armitage (one of their sympathizers) was responsible, there is silence from their camp. No apologies, no nothing.

Then there's Katrina: All Bush's Fault. No matter what the evidence shows.
