San Fran hit and run: “He thought the devil was coming to him” (Update: “Terrorist”?)

Five possibilities.
1. He was nuts. Evidence:
A woman who identified herself as Popal’s cousin said he was having recurring nightmares about someone coming to kill him and had been taking medication.
“He thought the devil was coming to him,” said Zargona Ramish, who went to the family’s home Tuesday afternoon while Popal’s relatives were speaking with police.
2. He was freaked out to an unusual degree about his arranged marriage. Evidence:
Three months ago, he returned to his home country to marry, relatives said, and his wife’s family was very traditional and strict…
Nekrawesh wondered if the stress of the trip and the culture shock had an impact on Popal, especially given that Afghan weddings are very large, and Popal comes from a large extended family.
The bride’s family didn’t allow the couple to meet or talk before the wedding, Nekrawesh said.
“The only thing would be some kind of mental pressure,” Nekrawesh said, adding that Popal seemed happy before leaving for Kabul. “The lifestyle is very different in Afghanistan.”
3. Some combination of 1 and 2.
4, He was waging jihad. Evidence: He killed some people and he’s probably a Muslim. Counterevidence: For a guy who some have theorized might have been targeting Jews, he sure seems ignorant about what they look like. There’s also this: “Early on, the San Francisco Police Department discounted terrorism as a reason for the vehicular assaults.” But then, you can’t trust the cops; that’s like trusting the IAF when they admit to having hit a press vehicle.
5. It wasn’t Popal at all. It was Palestinians driving that mysterious green van spotted on camera at the scene of the Reuters Gaza airstrike. They switched the vehicles after the attack, the proof of which is the fact that the windshield on Popal’s vehicle is intact. And the green van itself? Gone. Destroyed afterwards — in a controlled demolition. Evidence: Just give us time, baby!
I’m leaning towards number 3. Although 5 is very much in the picture.
Of course, if it does turn out to be number 4, I’m going to have to eat so much crap I might have to post a photo of myself literally eating crap. I’m not real worried, though.
Oh, by the way — we’ve got our first report of “backlash” panic:
Fremont is home to the nation’s largest Afghan community. Parween Amiri, 34, who knows Popal’s family, worried about what Popal’s arrest might mean for other area Afghans.
“I can’t believe an Afghan would do that? The kids grow up here and some of them change,” Amiri said. “They are not Afghan anymore.”
Update: LGF has video of a San Fran TV report claiming that the suspect referred to himself as a “terrorist.” The woman who copped a squat on that diverted flight a few weeks ago had also allegedly written a note about Al Qaeda — until it turned out she didn’t. I’m remaining skeptical.
Just out of curiosity, though: are there any health hazards to eating feces?

“American Muslims fear repercussions over tomorrow’s hit and run incident.”
Niko on August 30, 2006 at 11:14 AM
There is a pattern here: Muslim goes on rampage, and it is NEVER the aspects of his religion that contributed to it, according to the MSM. Is AllahPundit really buying into the wedding jitters? Oh yes, I see religious Catholics, Protestants, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Hindus, Jains, etc. going on rampages all the time because they are nervous.
If it does turn out to be a jihad mission (Theory #4), of course we will never hear about it from the FBI or Department of Homeland Security. According to the FBI director, they are EQUALLY concerned with protecting Muslims from the extraordinary rare “hate crime” as they are protecting all Americans’ security.
How about a Theory #6: He was frustrated and had a serious anger management problem. (I’ve lived in Malaysia and can attest this is common among males of the “religion of peace,” either because of aspects of the way they are raised or fundamental aspects of Islam). When people are frustrated, they often take it out on things or people they have a preconceived dislike or hatred for.
This guy was frustrated and he espouses the religious tenets of a faith that has core violent aspects and a natural hatred of the infidel. Therefore, he takes out his frustration not on family members, not on his community, but rather drives 40+ miles to punish those he naturally hates and blames his problems on: the average American and Jewish infidels.
It most likely comes down to his hatred of America.

Now, now. The Seattle authorities were also in a big hurry to discount jihad as Naveed Haq’s motivation, even though the guy said All..er, you made him do it for all the oppressed Muslims everywhere. And certain corners of the MSM (and the ’sphere) were selling the “But he converted to Christinity” bit, despite his “I am a Muslim American, angry at Israel” statement just before he started shooting at Jews. That said, it’s looking like this cat may well have an organic case of teh crazee.
OK, it’s number 4. Definitely, without question. ;-)

All these possibilities and the poor Devil doesn’t even merit a mention.
Man, it’s hard out here for a pimp.
a4g on August 30, 2006 at 11:29 AM
I’m with Pablo. #4. The victims did have one thing in common, they are all non-muslims. Infidels all.
… but the biggest reason is…drum roll
Gotta be #4

Sorry, not good enough Allah! We have already seen enough fauxtography to last us ten lifetimes! We will not accept any of your Photoshopped fakery!
High resolution video is the only thing that will suffice in this case.
Watcher on August 30, 2006 at 11:49 AM
Hey, if CBS can use fauxtography for Katie Couric, certainly Hot Air should be allowed to do it for you.

Think of the recipe as a canvas.
What you choose to create is your own individual statement.

I think it is high time we start shoving the manipulative assertions of “fears of backlash ” back down their throats. How many times are we going to listen to such crap without calling them on it. Lets start with a comprehensive scorecard:
1. 9/11 over 3,000 Americans killed and no backlash
2. 7/21 Britains bombings, no backlash
3. Madrid bombings, no backlash
4. Seattle shooter, no backlash
5. UNC muslim terror driver, no backlash
6. London airliner plot, no backlash
7. Every time a CAIR mouthpiece speaks, no backlash
* I am missing many many more so everybody chime in

The movie “The Rock” was on HBO monday night. Sean Connery pretty much destroys half of San Francisco with a hummer.

Mmmmm, hepatitis.

GREAT POINTS, America1st.
The PC movement will be the downfall of this country. I wonder, when the first nuke or dirty bomb is detonated on American soil by Muslims, will they fear a backlash then? Damn right they will. And they’ll get one.
BirdEye on August 30, 2006 at 1:07 PM
…..just don’t call it terrorism.
RobCon on August 30, 2006 at 1:23 PM
Me think another….
He was looking for a prayer room and just wasn’t watching the road.
Mr. Magoo syndrome. All perfectly understandable you know.
Guess I had a liberal bowel movement.
Kini on August 30, 2006 at 1:30 PM
America1st,
Those are great examples and food for thought about why CAIR and all the Islamic groups are always crying about a “backlash,” when none is going to occur.
None occurs because we are perhaps the kindest and the most selfless, advanced, and civilized nation on earth. In our Christian and Western tradition we separate acts of individuals from group responsibity (something Islam does not do).
That is why it is so insulting when CAIR and the FBI are so concerned with a violent “backlash,” a backlash that is not going to occur, that has not occurred, and that exists only in the minds of America-haters. What they are implying is that we are a bunch of racist barbarians, and it is a vicious way of turning the attention from the victims (Americans and Jews) to the victimizers, who are then portrayed as the victims of racial discrimination by the most tolerant country on earth.
We should definitely start keeping tabs on the backlashes that do not occur, like you suggest.
januarius on August 30, 2006 at 1:33 PM
Speaking of anti-muslim backlash, has CAIR condemed the forced conversions of those Fox guys yet?
Iblis on August 30, 2006 at 1:47 PM
Rush has just cited several examples from Debbie Schlussel’s research of Islamists using autos as weapons (3 this year).. That still does not mean Allah will be eating a dookey sandwich but it is starting to smell.
Valiant on August 30, 2006 at 2:04 PM
Haha AP if it turns out to be #4, your boss will be spoon-feeding you that crap, and she will let KP watch. She certainly seemed to be putting #4 out there in her post, she didn’t come out and say it but she seems to be checking it out.
kaltes on August 30, 2006 at 2:04 PM
Oh it’s so #4! I can send you one of my 10-month-old’s diapers. Corn, raisins… undigested pea shells… mmmm.
rightallthetime on August 30, 2006 at 2:07 PM
#1 or #4. #1 may be the case as A) aren’t jihadists supposed to kill and be killed, or at least hasn’t that been their M.O? B) if the cousin is to believed this sounds classically schizophrenic, aligns with cop’s description of lack of animation after the crime.
honora on August 30, 2006 at 2:31 PM
Just in case you need a primer for #4, Allah.
a4g on August 30, 2006 at 2:35 PM
It’s time there was some immediate backlash, like an lamp post lynching by an enraged crowd. I think that a couple of these and the “Muslim madness syndrome” would diminish sharply.
Margaret McC on August 30, 2006 at 3:55 PM
Margaret, if you wanted a lynching, all he would have had to have done is run over gay people. If he would have been stupid enough to say ‘I’m running over all the gay people I can’ the cops wouldn’t have had to do anything but bring a mop and a garbage bag. Since he was targeting random people in a predomininately (it’s not that i can’t spell predominately, I just can’t STOP spelling predominninatley) jewish area, he’s just a poor stressed out guy who’s marrying some random person thousands of miles away. Of course, one might be tempted to ask, if he was soooo stressed, why not pull a runaway bride and head for vegas, and have a good time? Maybe look up a seedy detective and have him ‘kill you again’? Nah, I think I’ll just run over some stupid jewish b*st*rds with my car instead. Stress managed. Anyone have a cigarette?

Remember a lot of the early reports on her were right. The screw driver, matches, lighters were all denied the following day, but a few days later it was all in the affidavit. She did write notes (the contents of which we don’t know) and elude to being affiliated with what can only be assumed was Al-Qaeda
RightWinged on August 31, 2006 at 2:15 AM
even though she may not have been affiliated with AQ, that’s not the point… it seems she attempted to say she was… and it doesn’t matter if she is actually affilited or just pledges allegence.
RightWinged on August 31, 2006 at 2:16 AM
another quick clarification.. I don’t mean to say that she pledged allegiance.. I think she is just an unhinged liberal (I’ve got the links to support the liberal claim if necessary libs) who lost it after one of her many visits to Pakistan to meet her internet boyfriend (also, supporting links).
What I mean about not mattering whether she is affiliate or just pledges allegence should have been generalized, and not directed at her… My point is not even so much about allegience either. Just violence in the name of Allah. (i.e. the Seattle “lone gunman” and the Tarheel terrorist. Affilition to an organized group isn’t a requirement before one kills in the name of Allah)
