The USCG, of course. They saved tens of thousands of lives with their helos.

The regular Army and the Army National Guard sent thousands of men and women. The LA National Guard was on duty at the Superdome even before Katrina landed. See Lou Dolinar’s article at Real Clear Poltics.

The Navy sent the following ships to assist:
USS Bataan (LHD 5), USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), USNS Swift (HSV 2), USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), USS Shreveport (LPD 12), USS Tortuga (LSD 46), USNS Arctic (T-AOE 8), USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41), and USS Grapple (ARS 53).

The Marines sent both active duty and reservists, many of the latter were volunteers. FYI,The HQ of the USMC 4th Air Wing in in New Orleans, which suffered considerable damage.

The USAF and Air National Guard sent SAR helos, transport airlift, a mobile hospital, and combat air controllers to New Orleans international airport to open it up to night operations.

Even the Canadians helped out. They sent a destroyer, two frigates, and a coast guard icebreaker/tender.

And the Brits sent HMS Cumberland, the Dutch and Mexico each sent a frigate.

After all of the media piling on over the last several days, it is only fair to give Michelle Malkin the opportunity to second guess the second guessers….

New Orleans needs a serious houselcleaning of it’s public officials – starting with the Mayor and the DA. Their incompetence, victim mentality, and beligerance is overwhelming.

The voters seem to buy into the “Chocolate City” notion, a racist ideal focusing on vicitim mentality encouraged by the likes of Spike Lee. What voters in New Orleans really need is to drop the race card, clean house completly of public “servants” starting with the Mayor, and move on.

This isn’t going to happen though – vicitim mentality and race card politics bring so much attention we can only expect more of the same.

When the next disaster strikes it will, of course, be someone elses fault – and of course it will be a white person.

Cue the tape of that one.

The Governor of MS said in a recent interview that they do not believe in what he called “Victimship.” In other words, they are not and will not be victims. Same with Al and FL.

MS, for example, IMMEDIATELY got down to work rebuilding, organizing, cutting through red tape, deciding how much they need, seeing where the money is and went to work accordingly.

One of Mayor Nagin’s priorities after Katrina was…MARDI GRAS. As far as I know, Gov Blanco has not been heard from concerning ANYTHING. The Govs of Ms and AL have been interviewed concerning the progress of their stateS which appear to recovering a a fairly good pace. WHY IS THAT?
