"The Good" should also include all the US Armed forces, and specifically those units assigned to Joint Task Force (JTF) Katrina and JTF Rita.

The USCG, of course. They saved tens of thousands of lives with their helos.

The regular Army and the Army National Guard sent thousands of men and women. The LA National Guard was on duty at the Superdome even before Katrina landed. See Lou Dolinar's article at Real Clear Poltics.

The Navy sent the following ships to assist:
USS Bataan (LHD 5), USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), USNS Swift (HSV 2), USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), USS Shreveport (LPD 12), USS Tortuga (LSD 46), USNS Arctic (T-AOE 8), USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41), and USS Grapple (ARS 53).

The Marines sent both active duty and reservists, many of the latter were volunteers. FYI,The HQ of the USMC 4th Air Wing in in New Orleans, which suffered considerable damage.

The USAF and Air National Guard sent SAR helos, transport airlift, a mobile hospital, and combat air controllers to New Orleans international airport to open it up to night operations.

Even the Canadians helped out. They sent a destroyer, two frigates, and a coast guard icebreaker/tender.

And the Brits sent HMS Cumberland, the Dutch and Mexico each sent a frigate.

So, when are we going to start seeing the Michelle Malkin action figures in stores? In time for Christmas?

I love these Vents, but they need national syndication on TV. Alas, I suppose the problem with that would be as it always has been, you can lead a horse to water...

Was the San Fran road rage an act of terrorism? No, it just can't be. Watch the brief video at lgf. Also see an update there that suggests the motive might have been revenge.

Great Vent Michelle! This is the clear thinking and reporting we need! Pertient content, clearly presented, and well thought out makes your Vents important.

New Orleans needs a serious houselcleaning of it's public officials - starting with the Mayor and the DA. Their incompetence, victim mentality, and beligerance is overwhelming.

The voters seem to buy into the "Chocolate City" notion, a racist ideal focusing on vicitim mentality encouraged by the likes of Spike Lee. What voters in New Orleans really need is to drop the race card, clean house completly of public "servants" starting with the Mayor, and move on.

This isn't going to happen though - vicitim mentality and race card politics bring so much attention we can only expect more of the same.

When the next disaster strikes it will, of course, be someone elses fault - and of course it will be a white person.

Picking a winner between Blanco and Nagin is like trying to choose between inept and flagranatly inept. While a lot of people point to the drowning school buses, one of my favorite bits in all of this has to do with the National Guard, and the crying out of the local politicians as to why they National Guard wasn't sent down by the federal government. The answer, of course, is that THE GOVERNOR has the authority to call out the National Guard in an emergency and was just too stupid-goes-straight-to-the-bone spineless to admit she whiffed on that little factoid. As for the racial factor, I'd like to continue what False Dervish just pointed out about the three other states involved (Mississippi, Florida & Georgia) and ask why it had nothing to do with whether things got done in those places. Face it . . . It was a bad storm in a bad place to have a storm, but Race has nothing to do with where the wind blows. And in the long term the only thing that can stop something from getting fixed is people getting in the way of it getting done. If Ray Nagin wants to talk about the "hole in the ground", he should take the lesson he seems to be preaching to heart and that is that too much talking and not enough doing will slow down ANY recovery.

Face it . . . It was a bad storm in a bad place to have a storm, but Race has nothing to do with where the wind blows. And in the long term the only thing that can stop something from getting fixed is people getting in the way of it getting done. If Ray Nagin wants to talk about the “hole in the ground”, he should take the lesson he seems to be preaching to heart and that is that too much talking and not enough doing will slow down ANY recovery.

When stupid people vote for stupid people, then stupid is what you get.
We should not have to foot the bill to rebuild a city in a bowl, just because Nagin wants his chocolat city back.
Japan has an airport built where there was ocean. If N.O.
is to be rebuilt, then they at least need to fill in the bowl first. But I shouldn't have to pay.
I spend about $4000 a year for all of my insurance needs but
maybe I need to rethink this. I could just save my money and
if something bad happens to me I could just demand that the
rest of the country take care of my expenses.

Excellent Vent! I loved the "Stuck on Stupid" reminder. Perhaps it needs to be played again for those clowns in the MSM. While most of us look in disgust at the Dem and MSM talking points about how bad the Feds screwed this up, we forget that there are a great many people who buy into this garbage and believe it. And before I am accused of being heartless by some person, let's remember this-Nagin was an absolute idiot and let people be left behind because he wanted them to ride in the style of the Greyhound bus. The cheese wagons were available and people volunteered to come down and drive them out but no, the Greyhound is the only way to go in the Chocolate City. Also, the Oscar for Best Actor goes to Aaron Broussard for "I'm Coming Mama".

The problem with LA as opposed to MS, AL, and FL is MENTALITY AND ATTITUDE.

The Governor of MS said in a recent interview that they do not believe in what he called "Victimship." In other words, they are not and will not be victims. Same with Al and FL.

MS, for example, IMMEDIATELY got down to work rebuilding, organizing, cutting through red tape, deciding how much they need, seeing where the money is and went to work accordingly.

In LA, despite things being done, they complain that money is bogged down, too much red tape, "it's a different situation", etc.

For the most part, FL, MS, and AL have the determination, the organization, and the gumption to rely on themselves and let the Federal govt supplement what they cannot do.

In LA, it appears that they have the determination, the organization, and the gumption to rely on the Federal Govt and will MAYBE supplement what the Feds do for them.

One of Mayor Nagin's priorities after Katrina was...MARDI GRAS. As far as I know, Gov Blanco has not been heard from concerning ANYTHING. The Govs of Ms and AL have been interviewed concerning the progress of their stateS which appear to recovering a a fairly good pace. WHY IS THAT?

Know your neo-cons. This is useful. A Laura Nyro YouTube video. She was totally awesome, a genius. I had planned to put up a list of artists I like a lot who are relatively obscure. She is one of them.......

Would love to have an image of the Nagin Motor Pool with an audio clip of his comments demanding 'all the Greyhound buses in the country' playing in the background.
Has someone put those two together yet?

Beautiful. Another embarassment for the clueless Main Stream Media.

These idiots, in another of their endless conspiracies to try and paint the President in a bad light, dredge up Katrina, and end up re-exposing themselves and their Democrat politico buddies instead.

Maybe, after Katrinagate, Plamegate, Rathergate, etc.,etc, someone should explain to them the "law of unintended consequences."

On second thought, screw them. That's the price they have to pay for being morons. Hey Carville, keep those Democrat talking points coming.
