Secret hold: 73 down, 27 to go

posted at 11:12 am on August 29, 2006 by Allahpundit

Hitchcock couldn’t do it any better. This one’s not ending until Ted Stevens and Robert Byrd are hanging off the side of Mt. Rushmore.

The guilty party’s got to ‘fess up soon. With every suspect who’s eliminated, his/her shamelessness at not having come forward sooner looks that much worse.

Liebs is in the clear, in case you’re wondering.

Update: If it does turn out to be Stevens, will he blame the Internet “tubes” for having led to his undoing?

Update: Up to 74 now. Ace thinks Byrd is the prime suspect.

Update: Stabenow denies it. Up to79.

What’s to keep these guys from lying? These are politicians after all…

‘I would have gotten away with it too. If it weren’t for these bloggers and their meddlesome puppy!’

74 no’s. Specter’s out.

A lot of the “off the list” members are based on very very weak data.

How about a list of the remaining 27 so we can harrass them for an answer.

Whats with this ‘secret hold’ crapola? Is this like ‘double secret probation’?

Ditto for me.

Five bucks says it’s Kennedy.

I think your efforts are misdirected… the problem is not the one senator who did this… but the process by which this can happen.

We need to get the blogosphere, and MSM, to bring daylight to this silly practice.

This can only flourish IF the voters don’t know about it… as I did not until a couple of days ago…

I’ve got emails in to Kit Bond and Jim Talent – both R-MO. Better not be one of my boys.

I’m just sayin’, is all.

I think Kid has touched on what I would like to know, which is whether anybody is keeping track of those who have expressly refused to comment.

None of these guys is going to outright lie, as that would raise a well-nigh insurmountable credibility obstacle in the next election. And nobody will want to hold out on giving an answer forever, not with this kind of pressure, as that would make them look unresponsive and insulated. So some form of “no comment” or outright obfuscation or awkward sidestepping would be deadly suspicious.
