Carter: Blair is Bush’s poodle

Jimmy Carter criticizing a western leader for “timidity” is like Jackie Passey criticizing other women for being plain.
“We now have a situation where America is so unpopular overseas that even in countries like Egypt and Jordan our approval ratings are less than five per cent. It’s a shameful and pitiful state of affairs and I hold your British Prime Minister to be substantially responsible for being so compliant and subservient.”…
Asked why he thinks Mr Blair has behaved in the way that he has with President Bush’s belligerent regime, Mr Carter said he could only put it down to timidity.
They have to do this to Blair. They have to somehow reconcile the facts that he (a) is of the left, (b) believes that preemptive war can accomplish moral ends, and, importantly, (c) refuses to renounce that belief simply because George Bush happens to share it. Solution: attribute it to a character defect and call him a coward, never minding that the political currents against him would seem to suggest just the opposite.
I urge you to watch the highlights of Blair’s joint press conference with Bush on Iraq from late May if you haven’t seen them before. And this, too — a few minutes from an important speech on Islamic fundamentalism he delivered in March. Bear in mind as you watch that there’s a debate going on right now between the nutroots and the center-left as to whether it’s “fringe” to believe the UK terror plot was cooked up to draw attention away from Ned Lamont’s primary victory.

I wonder if Carter sees the irony in calling someone else “timid?” Does 444 days of captivity ring a bell to the man?
Capitalist Infidel on August 27, 2006 at 3:36 PM
The embarresment to me is that America ever elected Dimme Carter as a president in the first place. I can only presume that his wife, and any daughters he might have, and their daughters, are quite fond of burkas.
MalkinFan on August 27, 2006 at 3:45 PM
In other news, Mubarak’s official approval ratings are more than 90%.
According to Jimmy Carter’s metric Mubarak must be a fine leader then.
Niko on August 27, 2006 at 3:54 PM
Carter needs to beat it. Many of the problems we have today stem directly from his idiocy. Quite possible the worst president ever…bu there’s also Johnson.
NTWR on August 27, 2006 at 3:55 PM
And they didn’t even need to hold a gun to Carter’s head to convert him.
Jim Treacher on August 27, 2006 at 4:03 PM
Carter, of course, never had a second term; his poll numbers did sink below 30 percent in 1979.
“The Unfinished Presidency” –Douglas Brinkley - Hallelujah!
I couldn’t yet vote then, but when he lost “it was a rainy night in Georgia” - one of the greatest nights, ever, from this perch.
Examples of Carter malaise: Iran, North Korea, energy crisis, interest rates at 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17%, etc., etc., etc.
Even I thought for a while that he is a better man than he was a President - I’ve changed my mind a while ago and he keeps reaffirming…
Entelechy on August 27, 2006 at 4:04 PM
I think Carter is totally devoid of any sense of irony or shame. It seems to me he has lost all touch with reality. As bad as his Presidency was, I think he had good intentions, and it saddens me to see him throw what away what little bit of a positive legacy he may have had by becoming such a delusioal partisan hack. But then again, alot of folks in GA say he was always a vicous, self-serving prick, he just kept it well hidden.

Jimmy Carter is Leonid Brezhnev’s poodle… and Kim Il Sing’s poodle… and Fidel Castro’s poodle… and Slobo Milosevic’s poodle… and Chavez’s poodle… and Cedras’s poodle.
Truly, is there any foreign dictator he hasn’t truckled to in the last 30 years?

What a bitter old loser Jimmuh is.
RobCon on August 27, 2006 at 4:24 PM
You know, I was all set to go after Carter like a “killer rabbit” for his remarks but, forget it, he’s not even worth my time.
Jeff on August 27, 2006 at 4:35 PM
Jimmuh is a fool who has himself to blame for the problems we are experiencing today. He’s the one that built modern day Iran. What an idiot. I don’t care how many houses he builds he’s still an idiot. I guess since he’s on the short list of such faves as Fidel, Hugo & others he has no shame. I have a former student who had the misfortune to be one of the first Navy personnel serving on the USS Jimmy Carter and when they were having the dedication, he said he thought the former president was almost ashamed to have the sub named after him. He said the CO said one night when they were on watch one night that he was the worst president in his lifetime but of course told them he would deny it if anyone ever brought it up. The other guys all said their parents had all said the same thing and commented on the fact that none of them could believe that a sub was named after that nit wit. I think he has a pathetic man who has one of the sorriest legacies of any President. He makes me want to be sick and wish he’d just go away.
Catie96706 on August 27, 2006 at 4:39 PM
When he first left office, you could still sort of make out a case he was basically a good man who just couldn’t handle the responsibilities of being president. Since then, and particularly in the past few years, he has shown himself to be something else entirely. He is an evil man, and an unprincipled man.
And that’s on top of being profoundly incompetent. That’s got to be some kind of hat trick. The hat trick of assholery or something.
I wish that killer bunny had torn out Jimmah’s larynx when it had the chance.
Pavel on August 27, 2006 at 4:41 PM
Jimmuh’s a total tosser.
Martin on August 27, 2006 at 4:45 PM
It’s *Blair’s* fault that *America* is unpopular? Well, now we know.
Anwyn on August 27, 2006 at 4:52 PM
Like Billy Jeff, Jimmah refuses to respect the very office he held, deciding to trample on 200 years of “Ex-President Protocol” just to keep his face on the front page. Like all liberal dems, it’s all about himself or his party … the hell with what’s in the best interests of the country.
An embarrassing fool. Then, now and as long as he’s still able to flap his gums. As it turns out, Billy Carter had more class.
fogw on August 27, 2006 at 6:17 PM
Um .. yeah. This guy has done nothing but consistantly remind people that he’s much better at tearing down America than he ever was/will be at doing anything productive towards her benefit.
Alas… despite the fisky goodness in this article, I just ate and can’t quite stomach further contemplation of the hypocricy of this ass-munch.
Oh, and the Peace prize sitting on his mantle …., the fact that Arafat’s wife is dusting off one just like it tells me all I need to know about that.
yo on August 27, 2006 at 6:32 PM
This pathetic leftwing fawning for approval by the rest of the world is one of the things that proves why liberals and today’s Democratic Party cannot be trusted with nation’s security. They WOULD put America’s security second to “popularity polls.”
The need for approval of others (”love/belonging”) is listed by Maslow in his Heirarchy of Needs BELOW the “safety” need, indicating that NATIONAL SECURITY is more important than receiving “warm and fuzzy” strokes from the United Nations (and France).
Anyone who REVERSES these is dangerously incompetent and should never be allowed to dictate national policy.
georgej on August 27, 2006 at 6:40 PM
I voted for Carter. In my defense, I plead that I was only 18 and had a skull full of mush. My eyes were opened by Ronald Reagan and I haven’t looked back. When Carter retired and took up Habitat For Humanity, I thought highly of him. That is an organization I support wholeheartedly. But then he showed his true colors. The man hasn’t met a third world dictator whose butt he will not kiss. Pathetic.

It’s time to censure Carter, a small but maybe significant thing to do in this scary time. Start by going here.
NTWR on August 27, 2006 at 7:40 PM
Centure? A slap on the wrist? What would that trully do? He would ignore it anyhow.
Isn’t there something out there about giving comfort and aid to the enemy?? :-)
lsutiger on August 27, 2006 at 8:36 PM
And this from the “trust me” Pres.
From the get go Carter made unimaginable blunders.
One of the first was to cut the intelligence community in half. This didn’t just steer the nation blind (the Fool had no idea what was happening in Iran), but the agents that couldn’t be saved from the axe, formed their own merry band of cut throats er..operatives for hire (to anyone)called the White Hand.
These jolly fellows who knew everything about US went about overthrowing governments and every other nasty thing you can think of that screwed America over.
The worst thing that I can think of that Carter did though; he killed, literally, the American spirit. We were ready to capitulate to the entire world by the end of his term.
American morale and this was also evident in the military has never been in a deep dark hole such as the one he sunk the nation into.
Reagan was the opposite and that’s really the legacy I get from Ronald. He lifted the spirit of America when we needed it the most and if for that alone, He was a great Pres.

We now have a situation where America is so unpopular overseas that even in countries like Egypt and Jordan our approval ratings are less than five per cent.
Yeah, Egyptians just loved the hell out of us during the Clinton years, just ask Mohammed Atta, Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, Ayman al-Zawahiri, Mohammed Atef, Omar Abdel-Rahman, El Sayyid Nosair, Mahmud Abouhalima, etc etc.
Lehuster on August 27, 2006 at 9:20 PM
I agree wholeheartedly with Entelechy. While I felt Jimmy Carter was a failure as President, I too had some positive feelings about his Habitat for Humanity work; but not only does he coddle every anti-American dictator in this world, he has disgraced himself by speaking against President Bush and this country on foreign soil time and time again.
So the verdict is in: EX-President Jimmy Carter had a failed presidency and he is even a greater failure as a former president. He is an absolute disgrace!
Umnumzana on August 27, 2006 at 9:35 PM
His offenses certainly constitute giving aid and comfort to our nation’s enemies, but I don’t think our PC society can even think of doing anything more “evil” than censure at this point. It’s a start!
NTWR on August 27, 2006 at 9:47 PM
Vile. An ex-president talking trash about a British PM. That’s low even for Carter.
Speaking of the devil, I’ve got the the Jimmy Carter [Work] Project on TV right now, airing on the DIY channel. The segment just aired: “Women Builds” or builds that feature all-women crews - no men involved, not one. My favorite quote: “It’s not that we’re excluding men, it’s that we’re including women…” Right. The new homeowner’s daughter: “I think it’s great because it shows that, anything men can do, women can do better…”
Glad the bias is right out front where I can see it. Makes we wonder what would happen if anyone on a Jimmy Carter work crew was ever off-message…
Brilliant. Either a coward or a secret right-winger (”I don’t know you anymore!”). And reconciling (c) is out of the question because, by definition, a leftie must renounce any belief shared with Dubya, until he is either shamed out of office or impeached, in order to help the cause. (And there’s a Nobel Peace Prize in it somewhere down the line, we promise…) Doesn’t Blair get it?!?!
I see Carter’s comment as a shot across the bow, the precursor to ex-communicating Blair from the left-wing order altogether. Carter doesn’t really think he’s spineless; he’s just letting Blair know that this “wimp” characterization is as good as it gets from him, the next move being to hold him “accountable”, imply he’s somehow switched “sides”, etc. (Crazy?)
RD on August 27, 2006 at 11:59 PM
Heck, maybe Tony can come over & pound some nails into a board, “patch things up” with the Altruism Czar. (At least make Carter look like a schmuck for criticizing him afterward.)
Or, better yet, start his own project for disaffected British Muslims: Habitat for Ummanity…
RD on August 28, 2006 at 12:08 AM
Jimmy Carter lending his reputation to Michael Moore’s anti-American conspiracy theories (e.g. that the invasion of Afghanistan was for an oil pipeline) might have something to do with our unpopularity, too.
sandberg on August 28, 2006 at 12:37 AM
Well, of course Jimmy Carter is trying to keep his face in the news. Ever since Yasser Arafat’s butt was buried along with the rest of his stinking carcass, Jimmy has to find a new place to put his mug.
austinnelly on August 28, 2006 at 12:53 AM
Jimmy Carter is the gift that keeps on giving - to our enemies.
For such a sanctimonious prig, he sure feasts on hate.
Of course he hates Blair. After all, what could Blair offer to compare with Jimmy? Jimmy already gave away the Panama Canal, a Nuclear Power Plant to N. Korea, an election to Hugo Chavez, a year’s free publicity to the Alyatollahs of Iran, the life savings of a generation of Americans with his inflation machine, and a passle of Bile to G. Bush.
I guess Blair could give away London to the islamist minority, and the head of George the Baptist, I mean George the President on a platter to Salome, I mean Jimmy’s friends. Or, Blair could nominate Jimmy for a Nobel prize.

Back in the day, I was lucky enough to know what this jerk was. We were hoping for a redneck from Georgia. What we got was all wrong.
I liked Billy, even when caught by photographers pissing on a dumpster at 3 a.m. Billy had a man-of-the-people air about him. It was the thing Jimmah wanted sooo badly. Embarrassing his brother was a full-time job. He did it well. Too bad he had to die young.
Billy’s legacy is Beer, Jimmah’s is failure

Not much of a difference between “dead” or “in hiding and ineffective” either.

Who is Carter to criticize Blair as being Bush’s poodle when he spent his entire term being Brezhnev’s bitch?
As I’ve told others, Carter was hands down the worst president of my lifetime, running away with the title in an era that included Johnson (Vietnam), Nixon (Watergate) and Clinton (Monicagate).
