Video: Matthews begs paleocons to take back the GOP

So many “overseas campaigns” to keep track of. We’re all wondering: when does the new golden age of isolationism and disengagement begin?

I know when it ends. When the next plane hits a skyscraper.

I’m not so shure about isolationism. In todays word, bad things can happen out there when your head is in the sand. Reality is some things must be nipped in the bud quickly. If we drop out, the mice will play.

Here’s an interesting conservative label taxonony from William Rusher if anyone missed it… http://www.townhall.com/columnists/WilliamRusher/2006/08/24/conservatism_101_a_checklist

Pat has a lot of faith that waiting on the sidelines and allowing external threats to evolve won’t create adversaries that may actually have the strength to achieve their stated goals of ruling the world.

MT on August 25, 2006 at 9:59 AM

“They’re pushing for this Iranian thing…”

Yeah, Pat. That’s all a neocon ploy. Nothing going on there, the UNSC has no issues, and Hezbollah is a figment of our imagination. Europe knows the truth, eh?

Chris and Pat: a pair of jokers.

Pablo on August 25, 2006 at 9:59 AM

I like that….we’re pushing for the Iranian thing. Yes, I want a bunch of 7th century nihilistic fruitbats to get the bomb so I can get in my chair and scream how we should bomb them. Buchanan comes at the problem the same way the left does; the mideast is a quiet, static place that won’t bother us if we don’t bother them. Why aren’t they laughed off the stage? Bill Clinton did the hands off approach for 8 years…the attacks grew in scope. A US warship got bombed, he sent the freaking FBI…you couldn’t get a more restrained response if our country collectively rolled over and died. But they still came here, and they still nard-kicked us on 9/11. Apparently that wasn’t good enough for Pat and the guys…we need a whole city to come down with a mushroom cloud over it before they stop thumb sucking and decide maybe we need to do something after all. Watching them all play kissy face though, libs and the paleo cons makes me sick. And I positively loathe Chris Matthews.

austinnelly on August 25, 2006 at 10:04 AM

austinnelly,

The one thing your litany of hands-off measures doesn’t include is throwing Israel under the train. Pat’s in favor, as are most of the paleos. THEN, only THEN, will the folks in the Middle East leave us alone, they think.

But we would have to throw ourselves under the train, too. And I doubt even that would do the trick.

Attila (Pillage Idiot) on August 25, 2006 at 10:11 AM

Wow. Talk about “the enemy of my enemy…”

Kid from Brooklyn on August 25, 2006 at 10:47 AM

austinnelly,

Great post.

Pat is living proof that one can have a high IQ and still be a blithering idiot.

And to add … I think it says a lot when people like Chris Matthews and the Kos kids are suddenly finding a lot of ideological kinship with Pat. Think about it.

There he goes again huh. Buchanan spewing his toxic liberal drivel. And Matthews, having to throw William Buckleys name in the air too. Doesn’t he know that Bill is the father of modern liberalism? As if the conservative umbrella could cover them that disagree with our leaders foreign crusades(interesting article alert) against Islamofascism.

Things like

On Nov. 30, Matthews said that Bush’s pro-war speech in November was a “brilliant political move” but did not address the content of the speech. On Dec. 16, Matthews called Bush’s push for democracy in the Middle East “a gamble” and said that “if this gamble comes through — and it’s not clear yet …he belongs on Mount Rushmore.”

seem so very far away now, don’t they?

Oh, it’s not liberal at all. Buchanan, Buckley, and Will are all very proper conservatives.

Just hopelessly unrealistic in this case.

Allahpundit on August 25, 2006 at 11:55 AM

It was a disappointing day for me – the day I had to stand on the opposite side of the line from Buckley. But the good news is, I’m adjusting well.

tickleddragon on August 25, 2006 at 12:10 PM

All this political maneuvering is creating some strange bedfellows.

Rick on August 25, 2006 at 12:32 PM

Pat has turned into a laugingstock. If you listen to that fool, it is like conservatives are over there building the bomb for the lunatics. And Matthews, hahaha, what a clown. Michelle will never go on with that bozo again. They both belong on that joke of a MSNBC.

Jonesy on August 25, 2006 at 1:26 PM

Allahpundit on August 25, 2006 at 11:55 AM

I agree. Their logic presupposes that Jihadis will leave us alone if we only pulled out of Dhar’al-Islam. In this regard, they sound more like Dhimmi Carter than anything. Iran is like that puppy killer that turns into Jeff Dahmer unless unchecked.

THeDRiFTeR, if you weren’t sarcastic, I like your post because it reminds me of Chris M in his saner days. I used to watch him a lot because he is a political junkie and loves the Machiavellian in the game. Of late, because of the losing streak on the Left he’s lost his marbles. BDS has overcome him too. Sad, really.

Kid, you nailed it! Chris, the friend of Pat, only because Pat can’t stand Mr. Bush’s policies. Otherwise Chris would hate to even remotely be associated with the likes of Pat.

Oh, it’s not liberal at all. Buchanan, Buckley, and Will are all very proper conservatives.

Just hopelessly unrealistic in this case.

The 3 gents are a trio of hopelessly un-American aristocratic intellectual prima-donnas, with writing/gabbing talent, superseded by time, terror and other events and globalisation. In Mr. Buchanan’s case, also a good amount of bitterness for being rejected in his desire to rule the world, his way.

Today, isolationism would be like an ostrich:

1. a large, two-toed, swift-footed flightless bird
2. a person who attempts to ignore unpleasant facts or situations.

Entelechy on August 25, 2006 at 1:33 PM

Oh, it’s not liberal at all. Buchanan, Buckley, and Will are all very proper conservatives.

Allah, the war is one of those things that is split so cleanly along partisan lines that it is inevitable that everyone who is anti-war would be regarded as liberals by pro-war conservatives. Look at how the same happened to Lieberman, the anti-war types trying to paint his as a conservative Bush lackey. It worked, too.

kaltes on August 25, 2006 at 1:43 PM

Yeah, Matthews would LOVE the paleos to take back the party, then his side might have a chance at winning.

NTWR on August 25, 2006 at 2:05 PM

Maybe Pat should run for Senator from Connecticut.

kmcguire on August 25, 2006 at 4:06 PM

So NeoCons run the “Rethuglican” party, do they?

Where do I sign up?

Subsunk

Subsunk on August 25, 2006 at 4:47 PM

Idiot talking with idiot.

Terminal BDS. On telly. For all the world to ridicule.

Thank God for Pat Buchanan. If he wasn’t real we’d have to invent him.

Martin on August 25, 2006 at 6:59 PM

To those who think globalism is good:

VonHelton on August 25, 2006 at 11:29 PM
