[...] Allah at Hot Air has the round-up of links to the Palestinian government’s remarks on the Centanni/Wiig kidnapping. He has speculated that if Hamas plays the big hero in getting them released, doesn’t that point to some involvement in the first place? [...]

Entelechy, I must disagree with your reasoning...

Kid, while your idea sounds good, so long as the U.N. doesn’t get dissolved, it’s better to keep the ‘devil in our bosom’, vesus some place in Switzerland or Belgium, or Africa for that matter, while we still pay the most, for their right to vote against our and Israel’s interests every time.

I believe that a taste of reality is called for, and what better way to wake up those bureocrats than to send the entire UN to the Middle East, or Africa? They wouldn't be spending their time declaring diplomatic immunity while breaking the laws in those lands, and without having access to the vices that NY offers they might actually get something positive accomplished. By sending them off to a less civilized area it would be in their best interests to get something done.

They are demanding monies to fix the decay in their headquarters, but I believe it would be cheaper to just move them entirely. Besides, as things stand in that organisation, right now it is impossible to be rid of that decay without ridding ourselves of that corrupt body entirely.

With 9/11 comming up soon there are only 2 safe havens inside of New York. One is inside of the NY Slimes building, and the other is inside of the U.N. building. I believe that America would be better off without both.

In spite of all the hoo-haa in Gaza, I still don't miss Yaser Arafat one bit. The tradition of utter failure continues. My favorite is watching those ridiculous hamas "fighters" slide down wire ropes in those pathetic parades they stage. Also, I wonder who sells them all those Israeli flags to burn. That must be a good business.

Exactly, Entelechy. We need our veto power in the UN, so they don't declare us a rogue nation or something.

Are you hinting at reform in the UN? I lean towards a new “invention” entirely. I look forward to the day when the Marines (by order of President Giuliani) deliver the eviction notice.

I’m afraid we’ll have to disagree about the extent to which anti-Americanism is a rational response to our foreign policy versus an irrational political expedient for those who practice it.

THeDRiFTeR, you and yours would give Mr. Bush a 0 if he'd convert to atheism and become a Ned Lamont Leftie.

Chirac 1 Bush 0. Try living with that.

You must have missed this link the other day:

That will not be easy, in part because the entire United Nations Security Council is supposed to vote on the sanctions package. While only the permanent members can veto, the rising fear, particularly among European diplomats, is that smaller countries on the Council are so angry over how the United States, and now France, have handled the Lebanon crisis that they will give Russia and China political cover to balk against imposing tough sanctions.

While France, for instance, has been almost as insistent on a tough stance against Iran’s nuclear program as the United States, France has also in recent days alienated many members of the Security Council by offering only 200 troops to a peacekeeping effort in Lebanon.

Might be time for a "reinvention."

While France, for instance, has been almost as insistent on a tough stance against Iran’s nuclear program as the United States, France has also in recent days alienated many members of the Security Council by offering only 200 troops to a peacekeeping effort in Lebanon.

Might be time for a “reinvention.”

I’m afraid we’ll have to disagree about the extent to which anti-Americanism is a rational response to our foreign policy versus an irrational political expedient for those who practice it.

...the only beneficiary will be the party that solves it...

Interesting that you haven't applied this reasoning, one with which I agree, to the Israeli/Lebanon situation. America would have "benefited" immensly had they had a hand in "solving it", ie forcing a quick ceasefire, than allowing the Israelis a free hand. Instead, we watched the french pull off something without having to expend an ounce of their wealth or might. Now, France invented modern diplomacy, you might say. And while that's true, in the past 70 years we have had a greater role in its shaping.

Chirac 1 Bush 0. Try living with that. I have a hard time.

There is finally starting to be some media coverage of kidnapped Fox News reporter Steve Centanni and cameraman Olaf Wiig. I guess in today's media there has to be video for them to take notice:

Circular reasoning if I’ve ever read it.

Ha. Well, I overstated it, but it's not circular. No one benefits from the commission of the crime here; the only beneficiary will be the party that solves it, which is Hamas. Given the fact that they're known to dabble in "extreme" behavior themselves, it's not exactly beyond the pale to think they might have had a hand in it.

If a Fatah splinter group kidnapped the two, why on earth would they negotiate with Fatah's main rival for control of the Palestinian territories? Why not hand them over to Fatah or just let them go without handing them over to anyone?

If Hamas benefits from negotiating their release, doesn’t the prime suspect in the kidnapping become … Hamas?

Sure hope they are all right.

I knew the real Secretary of State Jesse Jackson couldnt be far behind.

If Jackson can't be President, at least he can be the shadow President and negotiate treaties with foreign entities on behalf of the shadow nation.

However he has gotten back hostages before, as he is happy to denounce American injustices and praise the anti-Americans.

When Jackson moves in for the spotlight no one dare interfere lest it harm the hostages

If imans are making calls for release of the hostages, then something has already been planned IMHO.

On the radio this morning a Palestinian official said that there are promising signs to release the "guests of Palestine". Talk about nuance. These dudes must study the MSM here and abroad, CAIR, the ACLU and our Left really good. Maybe a university course on-going.

On a serious note, I believe they are held by a group related to Fatah and that their request to release the Muslims held in the U.S. is just a front for the real reason - negotiating disputes and power-fights among Fatah and Hamas. This might be good news for the captives.

Also good news - Jessie Jackson is in the region.
