Photographic evidence of Hezbollah counterfeiting? (Update: Cameo from Scar Lady?)

Sticky Notes had a brilliant idea, although I don’t think he quite managed to pull off. Nevertheless, I shall invoke the Sullivan rule and “air” his findings without endorsement in hopes that the collective wisdom of the blogosphere will settle the issue.
Read his post. Here are the photos he pulled off the wires:

Here, via Wikipedia, are the signatures of the last four Treasury Secretaries, which appear on the right side of the bill. Rubin served from 1995 to 1999, Summers until 2001, O’Neill until 2002, and Snow until July of this year. Henry Paulson’s name hasn’t appeared on the currency yet, I believe.

The signature of the Treasurer of the United States appears on the left side of the bill. Here are the last three, beginning with Mary Ellen Withrow, who served from 1994 until 2001, followed by Rosario Marin from 2001 until 2003 and Anna Escobedo Cabral, who took over in late 2004.

SN’s got a couple of side-by-side comparisons, but they’re not quite clear enough for me to feel comfortable with. The problem is, even if we can date the bills to 2001 or earlier, it doesn’t necessarily prove counterfeiting. $100 bills typically remain in circulation for an average of five years. Granted, at least one photographer on the scene described the bills as “crisp,” but it could very well be that Iran’s been sitting on a pile of old-but-genuine U.S. greenbacks.
This, however, is verrry interesting. I don’t know how to explain the variation in the seal. Any currency hobbyists out there have any ideas? The seal on the photo of the hundred at Wikipedia appears to be further away from the last zero than the seal on the same bill in this page at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, so maybe these things aren’t precise down to the millimeter. Although … isn’t that the whole point? To make them so identical that deviations in counterfeits are easier to spot?
Update: A quick check of my own wallet proves that the seals are not, in fact, exactly placed on each bill. Tanya comments below that they’re not the same on her money either. Which means we’re back to signature comparisons.
Update: “Retread” comments below that the woman in the top photo might be the same as the now-infamous lady with a scar (scroll down to section 4). Decide for yourselves. I think their noses and eyebrows are different.

Then again, those eye sockets.

The seals don’t always match. I just checked four 2003 series one dollar bills in my wallet, and the green seal across the word “one” doesn’t match on any of them. Left to right or top to bottom.
Which is not to say they couldn’t still be counterfeit. We need a reporter with one of those magic pens they use in gas stations.
Tanya on August 22, 2006 at 12:45 PM
If any reporter DENIES that those bills are counterfeit then such reporters should be PAID their salaries with that SAME money.

Doesn’t the woman in the first and second pictures look enough like Flat Fatima to be her? Or atleast her sister?

CIA believes that Iran is the #1 counterfieter of US $100 bills in the World.
NoKo’s a distant second. Both use state resources to make the funny money so that the bills are almost impossible for anyone except the Secret Service to catch.

Just throw it out there huh? See if someone runs with it. And who knows, not everyone will read the post that tells them that of course Hezbollah isn’t counterfitting, (why should they? They’re well funded. My understanding is that the country’s social services to a large degree are Hezbollah, and I don’t suppose that them rockets come cheap). Hearts and minds, you know. Sorta like the Marshal Plan, only in farsy.
BTW, who is Sticky Notes? I’ve perused the blog, and I can’t find any commenters for the life of me, yet, the comments are open.
Anyhow. This story is a crock. You think that that bunch is gonna give up their “victory” with stupidity? You don’t buy support with monopoly money. You know it, they know it.

That’s interesting. Would be very interested in reading where you may have read that. Got a link, or can you point me in the direction of your source? Seriously, now there’s a factoid I was not aware of.
THeDRiFTeR on August 22, 2006 at 1:16 PM
Right, TD. Pure propaganda this is. The stuff the government says about Iran counterfeiting? Pure horseshit designed to keep the sheep rooting for Israel. Assuming it’s not Israel who’s telling them to say it.
Sticky Notes is a blogger who doesn’t get much traffic. That’s why there aren’t (m)any commenters. Or maybe he’s a Mossad front. Either way.

Lol. Good one Allahpundit, I needed a belly laugh. I must really come off as a seriously paranoid anti-semite to you, but you can believe, I’m really not.
THeDRiFTeR on August 22, 2006 at 1:34 PM
That’s a nukeable offense all by itself.

This is the reason why in this country only coins are real money, paper can be counterfeited. U.S. paper “money” is really only a check. It is a federal reserve note backed by the federal government. If we still used gold and silver coins it wouldn’t be an issue, we wouldn’t care if another country minted U.S. coins because they would have to use gold or silver to do it. Just my 2 cents!

Yeah, it must be Flatima. She’s the only ugly, shrieking, scarred, female, niqab-clad Hizballah fan in all of Lebanon, right?

Phony photography! + Phony news! + Phony money! + Phony religion! + Phony beliefs = Very Real Threat!

I can’t tell those Islamic women apart except by size.

Well I thought I’d kick this up a notch and I have emailed some Israeli bloggers and Lebanese blogger friendlies. Explained the issue and that someone needs to get their hands on a sample $100 bill.
Just tossed that baby over the pond.
We’ll see where this takes us.

Fatima’s house has been flatenned so many times, she must be a millionaire by now!

Just keep spreading rumors that it is counterfeit and the market will take care of the rest. If that doesn’t work, suggest that the ink was tainted with pig’s blood. Or that that the metal thread is radioactive. Or that all Jewish bank personnel was told not to show up at work.
Kim Hartveld on August 23, 2006 at 5:15 AM
I looked through the comments and the various links and no one seems to ask this one question: 1. If all this rebuilding is being done in Lebanon, by Syrians/Iranians, why hasn’t anyone asked why they’re getting all this $$ in American dollars? The Lebanese Pound is the going currency, why American dollars, if this isn’t for propaganda purposes?
It’s obvious propaganda and everyone (except the complicit media) is willing to say it.
