Contrary to.. apparently everyone else, I always liked that song. I’ll admit that wasn’t the best version I’ve ever heard.

Israel’s war reflects war on terror

Israel’s latest, ineffective campaign is a miniaturized version of America’s own war on terror, specifically the lethargic dramas that are painfully unfolding in Afghanistan and Iraq. The only difference is that Israel has, at least, the wisdom to step off its violent path, whereas the Bush administration has stubbornly refused to change its course of war. During three years of war in Iraq, all that seems to have been accomplished is the death of thousands on both sides and the rise of terrorism and partisan warfare in the Middle East.

During five years of war in Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai’s government is but a shell, the Taliban is making a comeback, the country is producing more opium than ever, and Osama bin Laden is still at large. Long after al-Qaida was said to be weakened and on the run, its members remain in Afghanistan and are caching weapons there, according to USA Today.

In other words, America has little if anything to show for its two-front war.

Except fewer Americans.

All a show of conventional military force will ever do is beget more violence and inspire more civilians to join the ranks of the terrorists.

Three men, held since 2002 in conditions out of a horror movie, hanged themselves. These are three of the most popular people on the planet, held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, by the United States of America. Never charged with any crime, yet subjected to force-feeding, torture and deprived of any hope of leaving alive, they ended their lives. One man at Gitmo has tried to kill himself 12 times. Think about that for a moment. After 11 attempts to end his life, this man still felt so wretched that he found the determination to try and leave the Earth again.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suspended Oriental Oil’s activities in 2005 on alleged corruption activity and ties to Halliburton Co. of the U.S. The U.A.E.-registered drilling company had signed a preliminary contract with Halliburton after winning an estimated $310 million contract to develop phases 9 and 10 of Iran’s offshore South Pars gas reservoir.

And, ok, so maybe Iran is trying to give us a sort of back-hand on Miraj day, you know, attacking the evil Halliburton boat. It’s all starting to come together… ;/
