Just across on Sky News. I don’t get it. Lieberman’s polling well at the moment; what is it, precisely, that Bush and Blair are trying to distract us from by announcing this?
Sullivan’s been wondering how imminent the attack really was. The answer, it appears, is: imminent enough.
Scotland Yard’s giving a press conference now. I’ll try to get video.
Update: Here’s Peter Clarke, the deputy assistant commissioner of London’s Metropolitan Police, describing what they’ve got. Take three minutes to watch; as SeeDub explains, the details of this case are about to get awfully scarce.
Update: The Blotter thinks British police have martyrdom videos of all eight prime suspects.
Update: Here’s the transcript of the presser.

Speaking of imminence, Your Eminence, as I write, it’s just four and a quarter hours until midnight in Tehran, at which point it will be August 22, a.k.a. Rajab 27, a.k.a. Mira’aj. However, the suspense isn’t exactly killing me. I wonder if the whole thing will turn out to have been a mirage.

Let me guess… The suspects are militant Presbyterians? No? Gee. I wonder what their religous background is?

Can we just dissolve the CIA and spend the money outsourcing to MI5 now?
Please?

Would be nice to hear some details… how come the intended victims, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of untargeted (yet still affected) air travelers don’t get to know what their destroyed or lost laptops, iPods, and other potential bomb detonators bought in terms of security?
Not my country, I know, but if our government also knows details and is using them to delay, probe and inconvenience us, shouldn’t they be accountable? People are already freaking out… at least help them quantify and understand the alleged threat.

Ahhh, yes, Kralizec… T’was the night before Miraj and all through the media, not a headline was peeping…
Interesting how this interesting date and its significance to Amadjihad is being overlooked by nearly everyone…
Just like Iran and NK’s friendly relationship. “Just ignore them, and they’ll go away.”

400 computers (with over 6 Terabytes of data extracted?) and 200 Cell Phones? HOLY HANNAH!

Interesting article in the NYT on the difference between the UK Pakastani community and the US.

I hope you are right Kralizec.
Amazing. The “scale is immense” is scarey enough but the last words are truely heart-stopping: “Terrorism is here, it is deadly and it is enduring”.
The sheer amount of evidence not to mention the martyrdom tapes is staggering.
And remember the US did help! Thank God for all those men and women out there working every minute for us against THEM!

But martyrdom videos are part of their culture! Who are we to judge?

Mr. Sullivan aside, they’re not distracting us from anything, they’re keeping us focused on two significant topics their opponents detest strategically (not as in military but as in politics): security and the WOT.
The Reid, H. Clinton, Pelosi camps want to change the subject to mundane domestic topics or Mr. Bush’s ‘cretinism’, in other words ‘mental retardation’. Who controls the media cycle? Not POOPs (poeple out of power). What a shame that Mr. Reid & Co., and the BBC & Co. can’t be more serious and get on board on something this dire.

The cases become sub-judicae in the UK. It’s wonderful for public figures – sorry, you know I simply cannot comment.
Land of free speech. If you’re a Muslim inciting everybody to behead infidels.

I take it back, some news outlets are actually a little concerned about a doomsday scenario for tomorrow.
Is Amadjihad going to “respond” to our request to halt nuclear work by trying to nuke Israel?
If so, I hope it fails miserably and embarrasses his slimy ass.

More info about August 22. Sorry to spam this thread, but it seems like the best place to put this stuff for now.
