This was the first thing to occured to me after having read the post and seen the pic. Makes sense. Sorta like what they put in the money bags just before handing it over to the bank robbers.

Also reminded me of frosh week at university. They purple died us, head to foot, as is the tradition. Perhaps not quite the same as the above, as it wasn’t applied with water canons, but the result is similar, ie, you could tell who the engineering students were.
