Video: Hippie cover of “Hey Ya”

Via MetaFilter via Trip Cart. The Nickelback post seemed to go over pretty well so I thought I’d toss this out there. It’s surprisingly good, due in part to the fact that the song’s bleak lyrics (at the beginning, anyway) work well with a subdued acoustic treatment. Enjoy.

Blowback

Now there’s a switch, a lone white guy with an acoustic guitar who can actually play it pretty and sing in tune with interpretation.

Wow, it can happen.

Thanks for posting that.

Allah, Allah, Allah. It’s a “hippie” cover … what, because the guy plays an acoustic guitar? We *need* to clean up your definitions.

. o O (mmmm …. excellent acoustic guitar … excellent singer … cute little smirk at the camera when he he got through singing “see y’all on y’all’s baddest behavior … mmm, acoustic guitar player … )

They called it a “hippie” cover at MeFi and Trip Cart so I thought I’d stick with it.

Admission of herd thinking instead of the original stuff we love you for. Maybe you *do* need a vacation, nerfherder. :)

I’d buy that for a dollar. Somebody needs to get this guy on iTunes.

That’s actually not bad

RightWinged on August 19, 2006 at 3:22 PM

Even when a white guy sings these lyrics I still don’t understand them. What do they mean?????

Best I can tell it’s essentially the idea that love is just sex and is not an exception to the adage “nothing lasts forever.” (At least in the Outkast version; this guy mercifully left out the overt sex part, so in his version it’s pretty much about being in a relationship that’s really over, which makes a better song to my way of thinking.)

Hah, vindication: I thought it sounded more like Counting Crows than any hippie rock I ever heard.

Cool. Very Good rendition! I’d buy it too. Nice touch on the video with the Andre 3000 cameos as well. :)

I like it!! Me thinks i could slot that song somewhere in bewteen Joanie Mitchell and Nirvana on my ’sing along’ playlist. No really, I like it.

Do you have any contact info for Wes Clark? Send this to him, I’m sure he’e appreciate it.

Who knew Grizzly Adams could sing?

General FYI, apparently all the linkage has drained their supply of CDs. If you order one, like I did, be prepared for an email that says “thanks, but it’ll be a little while till they ship.”

Somewhat offtopic cry for help: New to blogging, new to YouTube, can’t force WordPress to put in the embed code for YouTube video properly. It wants to format it with extraneous tags that fark it all up. Anybody want to help me out?

Dang…that sounds really good. I’d buy it at iTunes.

Here’s another video in the same vein.

I’m converting it to an mp3 now. I’d post it, but I think we’d get killed on copyright issues.

I’m converting it to an mp3 now.

Done and in the iPod.

Copyright?
