Around the world in half a dozen links.

Al Qaeda lost its Afghanistan training camps, so it’s taking terror school online.

There’s a story out today about the US blocking Iran from shipping missiles to Hezbollah during the summer war that just concluded (for now). It’s got a lot of detail including a suggestion that Iran disguises its military flights as humanitarian aid shipments (raise your hand if that surprises you), which makes me wonder what its purpose is. Are we telling the world in our hamfisted way that the Iranians are to blame for that war (ahem, duh), or are we telling the world that we’re relevant? The Iraqis and Turkey apparently helped us stop the shipment, which is also interesting.

The Governator has earned the ire of LA-area Muslim grievance groups. They don’t like that he supported Israel against a terrorist outfit. Which is just too bad, really. You can’t offend Muslim groups without earning a veiled threat:

Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, said Schwarzenegger has an obligation to meet with Muslim groups if he wants to understand the conflict in the Middle East and speak publicly about it.

Al-Marayati said the governor’s recent actions appeared designed to appeal to pro-Israel donors during the reelection campaign.

“He is pandering,” Al-Marayati said. “This is political pandering. They believe they are serving a special-interest group when they exclude us, and they need to understand that their pandering is to the detriment of California.”

“…to the detriment of California.” Hm.

Speaking of Muslim grievance groups, CAIR gets the red-carpet treatment at US airport.

On June 21, a senior DHS official from Washington personally guided Muslim officials from the Council on American-Islamic Relations on a behind-the-scenes tour of Customs screening operations at O’Hare International Airport in response to CAIR complaints that Muslim travelers were being unfairly delayed as they entered the U.S. from abroad.

CAIR is a spin-off of the Islamic Association for Palestine, identified by two former FBI counterterrorism chiefs as a “front group” for the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. Several CAIR leaders have been convicted on terror-related charges.

During the airport tour, CAIR was taken on a walk through the point-of-entry, Customs stations, secondary screening and interview rooms. In addition, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents were asked to describe for CAIR representatives various features of the high-risk passenger lookout system.

In a meeting, Brian Humphrey, Customs and Border Patrol’s executive director of field operations, assured CAIR officials that agents do not single out Muslim passengers for special screening and that they must undergo a mandatory course in Muslim sensitivity training. The course teaches agents that Muslims believe jihad is an “internal struggle against sin” and not holy warfare.

Jihad is all within. Got nothin’ to do with no holy war. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Generation Y–a lot like the Greatest Generation?

And, North Korea may be gearing up for an underground nuke test. We say it’s so, the South says no.

Update: Did I write somewhere that Hamas would learn from the recent war and adopt Hezbollah’s tactics. Well…

Now, in the aftermath of the cease-fire, which handed Hizbullah and its state sponsors Syria and Iran the greatest victory in their history, forces in the PA are actively preparing for a new round of war against Israel. As Hamas spokesmen have put it, Israel’s defeat in Lebanon has convinced them that it is possible to adopt Hizbullah’s methods to destroy the Jewish state. Amid false reports that he was planning to dissolve the Hamas government and replace it with a government of technocrats, Abbas went to Gaza on Monday morning and asked Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh if Fatah could join his government.

As instructed by his commanders in Teheran and Damascus, Haniyeh has not yet agreed to Abbas’s offer. Rather he set humiliating conditions which Abbas must accept first. Abbas already agreed to Hamas’s demand that he allow the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization to also join the government. He is similarly expected to agree to Hamas’s demands that Fatah join the government as a junior partner and that it abandon its negotiations with Israel. (emphasis added)

We need to Ctrl+Alt+Delete and reboot this whole war.

Apparently so. This alone appears to be enough of a smoking gun to justify Osirak Redux. But what do I know?

Good links, Bryan. Thanks.

The story about the thwarted arms shipment is encouraging. I often hope we are doing more behind the scenes, especially when the news of the day leaves me puzzled (cease-fire terms, for example).

I found the Generation Y article interesting – I’m an early x-er (giving my age away) who grew up in the 80′s with big hair, hoop earrings, valley girls, leg warmers and guess jeans with the zippers on the sides. I knew NO ONE who entered into the military after my waaaayy too privileged highschool and college life. That says a lot about us…and it’s actually quite pathetic. I actually felt guilty after reading that article, especially since my nephew (who’s a solid Y-er) is one of those God-Country-Duty-Honor kind of guys who volunteered to go to war.

Islam center aims to build bridges
Event highlights Berkeley Graduate Theological Union’s plan under way to spend millions on a program

BERKELEY – The West Coast’s largest theological campus is investing millions of dollars to create a center for Islamic studies.

The program would join the Graduate Theological Union’s nine seminaries and two study centers.

We’re trying to create an Islamic presence,” said John Weiser, chairman of the GTU board of trustees. “There are more Muslims than Jews in the U.S. Yet we still treat them as ‘foreign,’ and ‘over there,’ which is bizarre. They’re a very, very vibrant religion.

vibrant? Don’t they mean violent?

An inaugural event, a conference on religion and democracy jointly sponsored with the Islamic Cultural Center of Oakland, featured some of the most celebrated thinkers in modern Islam. The Wednesday event drew nearly 200 people, from students and academics in jeans and suits to scarved, elegantly attired Islamic women.

Isn’t this in Michelle’s backyard?

In this photo released by Saqib Ali, Protester Timothy Truett sits with a sign that reads ‘Islam Sucks‘ as he protests outside Democratic candidate for Maryland House of Delegates Saqib Ali’s home in Gaithersburg, Md., Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006. Truitt, 46, of Montgomery Village, sat in a folding chair on the cul-de-sac outside Ali’s Gaithersburg home, which doubles as his campaign office, around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, holding the sign and wearing the shirt. Ali said he came outside when he was told about the protester and took several pictures but refused to speak to Truett, an account that Truett confirmed. (AP Photo/Saqib Ali)

Online terror training..what next?
Thanks for the links Bryan! Good ones but a bit depressing. Taking CAIR on a tour and telling their rep about the screening process and exactly WHAT they are looking for is INSANE!Then you link about the 9/11 generation. I actually agree strongly with that article. I keep seeing it over and over in my neices, nephews and sons/daughters of friends. I grew up not knowing but a few people in the military. I run out of fingers counting the sons/daughters of people I know who have signed on for service. I hope this is true and continues because God knows we are going to need them.
The WOT is going to be more like the 100 Years War as opposed to the Cold War which was long enough!
