Video: Iraqi anti-suicide-bombing PSA

I wrote about it two months ago. It’s airing in Baghdad now.
Appealing to the human decency of suicide bombers doesn’t strike me as a winning strategy, but it can’t hurt. In any case, Iraqis have bigger problems now.

The Iraqi people must stand up or this entire war was a complete waste of time. Maybe they know in their hearts there is a 98% chance of failure. A must read at the August 16th post. If you don’t know it, you haven’t be listening. Read it now, please.

Love the fx, but… bloodless and fiery? I see the terrorists downloading this as porn, not being shamed by it.

This clip isn’t going to discourage a would be suicide bomber. It is going to encourage them.
The creator’s hearts are in the right place, but I fear this will not have the effect they are looking for.
Hell, it does look like a Hollywoood movie. And we all love movies and the special effects. Even the bad guys in them.
Look at the huge effect this suicide bomber had. Massive explosion, cool slow motion effects, destruction. Look at the power he has to aflict his enemies. Which is exactly what he is trying to accomplish. So yeah, this Sunni bomber just detonated himself in a neighborhood full of hated Shiites, or something to that effect. Mission accomplished.
Plus, is it just me, or did our suicide bomber seem to have a rougeish, devil may care, bad boy look about him? Yeah, he may be evil, but he’s a stylish looking evil. Great. Super.
I’d rather seem him portrayed as an ugly, dweebish looking cat who stammers and looks inept, who screws the whole thing up and either accidently self detonates on a lonely highway during his movement, and the last shot is a close up of his eye, as he realizes just before death that he has screwed up, he is dead, and no martyrs death awaits him. Only an ignomious cloud of smoke, a greasy stain on the highway, and a pack of black dogs moving in to feast on his remains.
Yeah, I like that version better. No cool points awarded, and no virgins either, and nothing but an unattended demise, wittnessed by no-one.

As a suppliment to the above, I remember watching clips of an Iraqi show where they interviewed captured terroists. In the interviews, the terrorists were verbally berated, and asked leading questions that led to them giving answers that made them look low and dispicable. This was done by either a police interrogator, or a judge. From what I remember, it was a very popular show in Iraq. I suppose it had some similarities to our “COPS” show, except this focused on the terrroist/criminal after he had been captured.
I liked how it made those guys look like total scum.

There’s a whole new genre just waiting…..the terrorist reality show. Losers win valuable prizes, winners are beheaded and go to Allah and those many virgins.
