Great Vent Michelle!
As usual, accurate description of the world we live in. It is such a pleasure to see these views, which will not make it into the MSM, voiced with such clarity.

Enforce existing laws and resurrect the Eisenhower Plan, please.
How sad and how true. Sigh
Aunt B on August 17, 2006 at 11:18 AM
I’ll vote for you Michelle. And, to me, a Berlin wall on our southern border is OK. We gave Mexico years to do the right thing and they did the wrong thing. I don’t care if we send the Illegals home and break up families. They deserve it. Hompanies that hire them should be closed down. I don’t want the US to look, act, or feel like Mexico. It is a trainwreck of corruption, and all this talk about amnesty undermines our laws.
Shmo on August 17, 2006 at 11:32 AM
Okay…
I was following up until the time Michelle reaches up to toss her hair in the air…
I pretty much lost my train of thought at that point.

Loved the remark addressing those who think we should throw open the borders because “it’s good for the economy”, as if economic values trump all others. Not to mention that when you argue against them, some (e.g., Larry Kudlow, or as Michelle noted, Bill Buckley) will pull out the race card faster than you can say “Johnny Cochrane” to try to shut you up. It’s disgusting that they so quickly resort to the same tactics that the left has used against conservatives for so long - particularly in the light that they are using the same tactics against fellow conservatives.

Nice exerpts here, Michelle.
It would be nice to see more exerpts from your various public speeches, Michelle, especially since you don’t seem to do any of them (or hold any book signings) here in the NYC area.
The False Dervish on August 17, 2006 at 12:58 PM
HAHA. Me too. I saw her lips moving but…
I went to an immigration hearing in Santee, CA and the grower that testified showed his hand. He made a point that we need immigration reform because he cannot pay migrants a stipend for housing he has to actually provide housing *gasp*. He was hispanic but showed no sympathy only tried to make a pointthat we need immigration reform (so he did not have to house his guest workers, as if he was providing housing anyway.)He also made no mention of the fact that with so many illegals around the farms during the season he does not even have to use the guest worker program unless we actually enforce the laws. Aww poor growers…
Our current program is VERY fair and VERY humane and unfortunately very unenforced. Under the current plan growers actually have to run ads for what they are paying. Then when no one answers and add to pick fruit for minimum wage they can get guest workers. Do you think the growers actually want to have to defend posting a job for $5.15 an hour? This mans duplicity and greed turned my stomach.

I dunno if Michelle reads these comments, but as one familiar with public speaking I’ll toss in what I hope she’ll take as constructive pointers:
1. The content of the speech was good, red meat for conservatives; pointing out the hypocrisy of “liberalis bigotis,” for example, always plays well. So I found myself at the beginning thinking, “Go, Michelle - sting ‘em!
2. As the speech progressed, though, I noticed a couple of major distractions:
A. She spent a lot of time looking down at the podium, “reading” her speech instead of “giving” it. After a while, I couldn’t help but to wonder if she was speaking to the audience, or to the podium. Perhaps she didn’t have a lot of time to prepare/rehearse before she had to “go live?”
B. I’m with Lawrence above: Michelle is hot, hot, hot, and seeing her wearing what looked like the proverbial “little black dress” while on several occasions casually running her fingers through her long, black hair made me totally lose my ability to concentrate. By the end I didn’t even care what she was talking about, I was just anticipating her next brushback. She got my attention, alright … but not necessarily in the way she intended.
- Which isn’t to say that she should cut her hair … heaven forfend! But less looking down at the podium would fix this issue by making less opportunity for those long locks to fall forward while having the additional benefit of engaging the audience better.
Lastly, Michelle did very well in the more interactive part after the prepared speech. She thinks well and quickly on her feet, which is a formidable attribute that I’ve seen her demonstrate repeatedly on the O’Reilly Factor. If her looking down at the podium was reflective more of discomfort giving “canned” speeches instead of not having enough prep time, then my final suggestion would be to keep the prepared remarks short and to play to her strength by spending more time in give-and-take with the audience.
Again, I’m not “criticizing” - Michelle is one of the main attention-getters and intellectual big guns of the conservative movement. I’m just trying to think of ways she can be even more effective than she already is.
Spurius Ligustinus on August 17, 2006 at 1:17 PM
Good rant Michelle.
Forget about the negatives, and just keep
firing your big guns to get your points across.
I believe there’s no intent to secure our
Southern borders, because of the Bush
administration’s hidden agenda of a
border-less North American Union.
byteshredder on August 17, 2006 at 3:04 PM
It would be nothing of the sort, don’t encourage that comparison. The Berlin wall was set up to prevent people from escaping Communism. This wall would be to prevent people from violating our sovereign border. I bet many people that are against putting up a wall on the border have fences around their yards, I’d love to tell them they need to take it down because it sends the “wrong message.” They would argue it is to keep people off MY PROPERTY. Well the US is OUR property so how is a wall preventing people from another country coming on our property any different than a white picket fence?
I don’t know if the wall would really solve the problem, but it sure as heck couldn’t hurt.
The rest of the Vent was great, I am lost with the “conservatives” that seem to not give a whim about a tight border. We can find the necessity to fund 350 some miles of levees around the sinking city (which cannot be stopped) of New Orleans. I am sure if you take in to consideration the extra reinforcement required you could extend that to make at least 700 miles of above ground fence/wall with the same amount of material.

I was waiting for the background to fade out, a spotlight to sparkle her eyes and a fan to softly blow her silky black hair. Combine that with her casual brushbacks and that seemingly little black dress she wore that day…
She’s too hot, man.
I had to play the video and scroll down to the comments to hear what she said; I can barely remember her comments now. Something about liberals and open borders.
Carvin Guitar Man on August 17, 2006 at 3:27 PM
OK, bottom line is, much of the modern immigrant of today, by and large, isn’t really interested in joining the “melting pot” of the American ideal and work to make a life here, they want to be given a life here and they want to re-create their Nation of origin here, forcing everyone around them to conform more to them than they to us.
Add to that the Islamic infiltration, which quitly multiplies until two things happen, there are enough of them to begin demanding Islamic ideals in theirs and surrounding areas in leu of what is traditinally American, and, partly due to their refusal to “melt” into America their youth begin to identify with the radical(read: practicing) Islam. This leads to what we see going on in the last few months, pro Hezbollah(Hezbollah being an enemy of the United States and Freedom and Liberty in general for decades now) and other foreign Islamic group rallies in our Nations cities.
And thanks to liberal political correctness and ignorance, that will eventually lead to home grown terrorists like the goofy British are waking up to every morning now, their brain dead liberal idealogies actually being practiced a number of years ahead of our own.
The “future” of the United States of America? The future, unless something drastically changes and war is declared on the liberalism and Godlessness that brought us to where we are now, is probably no longer “out of many, one”, it is probably more likely just another statistic in the eventual one world government that signals the eventual end of everything real Americans have ever known, and have ever loved.

Loved the Vent, I agree with the “distraction” comments (what was she talking about again?) but she seemed…quiet, a bit timid in delivery, a touch unsure to me. Where is the fireball from the daily Vent broadcasts? She could have had that crowd on its feet with her usual delivery and that message. Maybe that was not the intent, but I bet it could have happened. Whatever she was talking about….

What about a beautiful brick “Great Wall” along our Southern Border. I’m sure ours could rival, if not surpass the one in China. BTW, I’m not kidding!

For years I’ve been urging Michelle to ‘Run for the Senate’. Does anyone doubt that Michelle can win what she wants to? How many votes did she get today with just a little hair flip?
We demand more of this!!!

I think that it would be incredible to actually attend one of Ms. Malkin’s public speaking engagements. A national tour would be awesome. Even if it was just as a participant in something like Sean Hannity’s Freedom Concert (although having her as the headliner would be better). Just to be able to see and hear her live would be fantastic. I bet that it would be a sold out event across the country.

When my ancestors arrived in the early 1800’s no one put laundry soap directions in German & neither were my Irish relatives encouraged to keep their brogue once they landed here. One of my friends was looking for a teaching job in AR and was told that it would be quite helpful if he could speak Spanish (which he can’t) and neither to day even though he has 14 years teaching experience did not get the job as it went to someone with a degree in basket weaving (for all practical purposes) but who could speak Spanish. I am upset at all those who advocate open borders and would like to see the people who hire these illegals thrown in jail. I am happy with what President Bush has done with terrorism. However, that’s about it.

A preview key would be helpful-should read and even though he has 14 years . . .

And here’s one from the Republican “brain trust”.

False Dervish, me too! You might want more “exerpts” in NYC, but when I first saw it, I had to rewind, because I thought it said “Experts”. Michelle? Human? Makes typos? Who knew? :-)

Hey, I don’t know how my comment became a link!
Melba Toast on August 17, 2006 at 10:38 PM
Okay, sorry, but I don’t know what I’m doing, this has never happened before. If someone can send me a hint, that’d be great!

Trying to unlink Melba Toast :)
MT, just click on the ‘Close Tags’ button, above, and type anything, or vice-versa. Best regards,

Ha! some help I am on HTTP :(
Entelechy on August 17, 2006 at 11:02 PM
anything
Melba Toast on August 17, 2006 at 11:08 PM
That was scary! I might have to go back to being a lurker. Leaving comments suddenly got complicated.
Thank you, Entelechy. :-)
Melba Toast on August 17, 2006 at 11:11 PM
But…I don’t give up easy :)
MT, follow the linking steps:
1. Select an http:// address string of whatever you wish to link (from another news site,…), edit/copy or right click and copy
2. come back to your HotAir comment box, highlight a word or a few words of your comments and click on the ‘link’ button, above (a window opens)
3. Delete what’s in it or highlight those few characters
4. Edit/Paste or CRL + V (to bring in your desired article or picture or cartoon, or whatever you wish to share)
5. Click on Ok (or Close)
6. Submit your comment.
Sounds harder than what it is (but I often forget to close whatever I’m emphasizing or linking too :)
Entelechy on August 17, 2006 at 11:11 PM
MB, you’re welcome.
On step 1. I should have written “highlight (or click on) to select an http:// address…”
Please don’t go back to lurking :)

Whew…thought it was just me that was hypnotized by the hair..Once I played through the excerpts a second time (with the sound on this time) I too was struck by the difference in her live audience presentation. I thought at first she might have toned down her normal ‘full throttle’ presentation mode she uses during the vents because she was talking to a group of young teens. But parts of the comments were hard to make out because she varied the volume of her voice or shifted away from the mike…I don’t think it was nerves though…just seemed like she was toning down the heat a bit so as not to alarm the little mites. Still it was a good presentation…I confess I didn’t know about the WFB column so I learned something from this as well. Brava, Michelle…
