Steve Centanni update: “This one may be a bit different”

Kidnapping reporters isn’t the best way to sustain Pallywood, which is why they’re usually pretty quick to let them go. Fox News isn’t known for its indulgence of Palestinian propaganda, though, so Centanni and his cameraman might be in for the long haul:

“It is not clear who kidnapped them or what their demands are. In the past, kidnappings have gone on with western journalists in that area. Usually the captors demanding some sort of job or trying to make a political statement. But there are concerns this one may be a bit different, considering three Israeli soldiers who were kidnapped triggered this entire Middle East conflict. And there are concerns that these Fox News journalists could be held for a lot longer and that those demands may be much different than they have been in the past.”

New Zealand, where cameraman Olaf Wiig is from, has sent a diplomatic team to Gaza. Abbas and Ismail Haniyeh are planning to meet with Fox News’s Jerusalem bureau chief, although it’s not clear yet how much they can do:

An investigator in the case, speaking on condition of anonymity so as not to jeopardize the investigation, said suspicions were focusing on a renegade group from an established Palestinian militant organization, but he declined to give further details.

WND says it’s the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades: “Sources in the … Brigades told WND ‘independent Palestinian gunmen’ affiliated with their group carried out the kidnapping ‘completely on their own.’” A leader of the group says he thinks they’re being held to make a point about Isro-American “aggression” in Lebanon, but that might very well be his own opportunistic spin.

Another jihadi told WND not to be surprised if other groups are in on it.

I really despise muslims.

darwin on August 15, 2006 at 12:12 PM

And their leftist enablers in the West.

Lady Heather on August 15, 2006 at 12:15 PM

Surely, they’re yukking it up in Koslamistan and DUmmieland.

JammieWearingFool on August 15, 2006 at 12:19 PM

Here’s to wishing Murdoch has a bit of Perot in him, and hires some mercenaries to rescue Centanni, and maybe terminate some Hamassholes in the process.

The Monster on August 15, 2006 at 12:26 PM

do they think that killing or even abducting newsreporters will solve anything?
We DO NOT Negotiate with terrorist!!

umbergbr on August 15, 2006 at 12:29 PM

The only consolation is if the Islamists win, they’ll kill the DUmmies first.
I don’t think Murdoch has enough crazy in him to hire mercs. I wish he did though. Hell maybe he’ll send Geraldo in to save Steve. He likes to talk tough and wave guns, but he does lead with his nose.

Iblis on August 15, 2006 at 12:54 PM

What utterly useless people. And, what is sad is deep down, they know it.

And they complain their lives are looked upon as being worthless compared to the lives of Americans and Israelis. Worthless and useless go hand in hand.

Shmo on August 15, 2006 at 12:56 PM

Murdoch should pay for their freedom, then hire the best mercenaries money can buy to go in and slaughter anyone and everyone associated with the kidnapping. To do anything less would be capitulating and they’ll just do it again.

darwin on August 15, 2006 at 12:58 PM

Too bad we can’t convince all of them to commit suicide and go get their 72 Helen Thomas’.

Shmo on August 15, 2006 at 1:13 PM

Thoughts and prayers to them and their families.

bopbottle on August 15, 2006 at 1:22 PM

Like these, Shmo?

Lady Heather on August 15, 2006 at 1:25 PM

Pray for Steve and Olaf…

BirdEye on August 15, 2006 at 1:25 PM

Now can Israel start using those Catepillar ‘dozers to turn under the Pali occupied areas. Flatten the entire area. Leave them no place to live, hide, breathe.

raz0r on August 15, 2006 at 1:27 PM

“This one may be a bit different”

Well of course this one is different. This has KKKarl Rove’s fingerprints all over it.

JasonG on August 15, 2006 at 1:29 PM

Yes, let’s pray for them & their families but sadly I also saw other comments where some of our more “tolerant” friends said they would pay to see Sean Hannity beheaded, I guess people like Jason G would agree. What a sad, sorry bunch of sack of sh*ts we have living in this country who actually want to see people die. As others have said–you slimeballs will be the first to lose your heads when they come for us.

Catie96706 on August 15, 2006 at 2:05 PM

We have soooo many enemies within that I sometimes wonder how we’ll win. Thank God for Hotair and other truthful news sources that keep us informed of the insanity going on in the MSM and the evil side of the blogosphere. Fox News reporters are special targets to the Muslofascists since they spread the truth.

The frustration can be overwhelming, especially when the stakes are so high. Prayers are important at times like these, and I send mine to Steve, Olaf and their families.

NTWR on August 15, 2006 at 2:30 PM

Jason’s post might be sarcastic?

Anyway, I’m out of the loop on this one. I hope Steve’s family is alright. I hope he’s alright. And Olaf.

Man, I hate this garbage.

We DO NOT Negotiate with terrorist!!

Maybe we could negotiate this one with extreme prejudice. You know: bullets. But whatever.

Axe on August 15, 2006 at 2:31 PM

If I was in Murdoch’s shoes, I would get word out to the Terrorist groups that either my reporters get set free NOW, or his news organizations would begin a 24/7 news campaign exposing terrorist lies, terrorist acts against humanity, stories exposing terrorist supporters/enablers, and they would soon be facing a renewed thrust targeted at their total destruction.

He could do that, and he should do that, but would he do it?

I swear, we were smarter than them in kindergarten!

Iblis said, and Catie96706 affirmed:

The only consolation is if the Islamists win, they’ll kill the DUmmies first.

While that sounds a bit consoling, I hope we rigorously fight and win this war, even if this pleasure would have to evade us.

Jason’s post might be sarcastic?

Yes it is indeed sarcastic. I apologize for any confusion it may have caused.

A rule for my postings: If it sounds stupid, I’m being sarcastic. If it sounds really stupid I’m not.

JasonG on August 15, 2006 at 3:05 PM

As an aside my seemlingly flippant behavior is in no way indicative of my true feelings on this situation. I have a feeling that this will amount to little or nothing. We’ve already seen, on multiple occasions, that the Palis are masters at controlling the media. If they kill two journalists they will erode some of the goodwill the press feels towards them. I do not think that any drastic measures will be taken against these two men.

On the other hand, I have have been wrong before. We just need to look at what the net gain for them will be. I don’t think harming these men will get them anything.

JasonG on August 15, 2006 at 3:13 PM

When American citizens are held hostage, that sould be an act of war against America, plain and simple, no matter who the Americans WORK for!! Jimmy Carter simply set a terrible precedent with 66 Americans held for 444 friggin’
days with the help of Mike wallace favorite interviewee
(the iranian current Iranian president)!

gary on August 15, 2006 at 4:45 PM

Amazing, I’ve been listening to the news on and off all day, and NO mention of this…

Even on Fox…

I don’t get it…

Romeo13 on August 15, 2006 at 4:53 PM

I was wondering the same thing myself as it’s not been mentioned at all today. Yesterday afternoon on O’Reilly (well my time in Hawaii) his first guest started to say something about it and Bill said something to the affect that they wouldn’t be mentioning it as they were negotiating or something along those lines. Did see it on the crawl though of Headline News.

Catie96706 on August 15, 2006 at 5:36 PM

On O’reilly last night he said he wouldn’t speak about it because they are working on getting their guys back. I’m assuming they are going to be let go soon.

JasonG on August 15, 2006 at 5:37 PM

I believe it was CNN that chose not to report certain “inconvenient truths” about Iraq during the time of Saddam becasue they didn’t want to lose their access.

I hope that this kiddnapping doensn’t move Fox News in that direction.

EFG on August 15, 2006 at 6:22 PM

Catie, I heard that on O’Reilly too. And the first guest was the slimeball from CAIR, spinning his lefty lawyer-speak propaganda- Mr. Awad of Used Toilet Paper.

NTWR on August 15, 2006 at 7:54 PM

I like Centanni. I hope they get those guys out in one piece.

Perhaps Murdoch should ask his new girlfriend Hillary what to do. Schmoozing Hillary might actually work in Murdoch’s favor. These slimeballs love to throw crumbs to Americans who have a negative slant on our country – Jesse Jackson comes to mind.

Maybe the Hillary connection is why they put the gun on Murdoch.

entagor on August 15, 2006 at 8:27 PM

EFG, while your concern is valid, I believe they are negotiating heavily and trying to avoid a Jimmy Carter-era circus of “Day 1″, “Day 2″…..

Entelechy on August 15, 2006 at 10:33 PM

This is so disturbing. Even if these guys survive, they are going through sheer hell right now. Do they have kids?

keats5 on August 15, 2006 at 10:53 PM

We’re all praying for their safety. Well, most of us are. I’m appalled by the nasty comments by many on the left who wish Steve Centanni and Olaf Wiig ill simply because they are employed by FOX News.

I don’t remember any similar nasty remarks from conservatives when Jill Carroll was kidnapped. But mayby I overlooked something.
