AP’s Islamic expert on the terror plot: “I bet you it will turn out to be a hoax” (Update: Video added)

Charles busted them yesterday for using a Palestinian terrorist apologist named Azzam Tamimi, whom Martin Kramer once called a “walking time bomb,” as an “expert” on Islam in an article about European Muslims. What he neglected to mention is that Tamimi is a contributor to al-Guardian — and has a piece posted on their blog, Comment Is Free, right now dismissing the UK terror plot as a hoax concocted to distract from Israel’s war with Hezbollah. The Islamist answer to John Aravosis?

[T]he crisis unfolded as Israel was being dealt the most humiliating defeat since it was created less than 60 years ago. I wonder too whether it is a mere coincidence that only days earlier Tony Blair was criticised widely for once again blaming Islam and the Muslims for the rise in “international terrorism”…

I have a feeling that all the Muslims detained in connection with the recent police operation to foil and alleged plot are innocent and will soon be proven so. I also suspect that the entire episode has been deemed, despite its enormous cost, to be of utility to a government that is increasingly out of touch with reality and seriously short of public support and sympathy. I wonder whether this was also intended to smear the image of Islam and the Muslims at the time when the entire world can see that they are the victims of a most unjust world order dominated by the USA and the UK who both support and sponsor Israeli terrorism against Muslims in Palestine and Lebanon and who both oppress the Muslim peoples of Afghanistan and Iraq through direct occupation.

None of which is particularly surprising coming from a guy who serves as director of an organization on whose board sits Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

What is surprising is that the majority of the Guardian’s commenters are hammering him for it. Hard. Which, I’d say, makes it officially a backlash. Writes Janet Daley in the Telegraph:

This enemy does not even bother to offer explanations for its actions that fall within the acceptable bounds of Western debate: it is overtly racist, explicitly imperialistic and unapologetically inhumane.

So it is left to the media to make the apologias. First, the home-grown terrorist threat was the fault of racist Britain for denying opportunity and educational advancement to Muslim youth.

Then it turned out that most of those involved in the propagation of terrorism were middle-class and university-educated.

At least two of the suspects arrested in the latest alleged plot are converts to Islam: they cannot be said to have suffered a lifetime of embittering discrimination for their newly embraced faith.

This phenomenon is more reminiscent of Baader-Meinhoff than of the intifada - a fanatical cult of rebellious malcontents who are “alienated” (the word of the moment) by the actions of their government and the mores of their country.

This pernicious nonsense is treated by the BBC as if it were the height of reasonableness.

Here’s the video, cribbed from LGF, of Tamimi screaming like a lunatic about the Israeli “cancer.” But I’d be remiss if I didn’t also point out that Britain’s Muslim MPs are not on board with the demands for Islamic holidays and shari’a family law being made by Muslim community leaders. They’re not on board with Blair’s foreign policy either, but then neither is most anyone else in the UK at this point.

Update: Believe it or not, Tamimi was on Tucker Carlson’s show pitching his hoax theory to an American audience. Media Blog has the video.

Why are Muslims, by and large, so poor? They always talk about the most merciful Allah… but he doesn’t seem to be taking that great care of them lately. They are defenseless against the west if we really wanted to get tough, they are poor, and their countries have been in constant states of war for centuries and millenia. They are left behind technologically and from the civilized world. What is Allah doing for them?

RightWinged on August 15, 2006 at 6:27 PM

clarification: in my previous comment I’m refering to Allah the diety, not Allah the blogger

RightWinged on August 15, 2006 at 6:32 PM

Rightwinged… hate to tell you, but it boils down to their religion being in conflict with one of the basic tenents of capatlism… ie… loaning capital expecting a reasonable return…

You CAN’T loan money for interest under the Koran… thus the only capatlisation a good Moslem has is from the govenrment, or from family…. so even though they have a LOT of Petro bucks coming in, their base economies are not very efficient. In fact historicaly one of the reasons a LOT of “infidels” had large holdings in the middle east was that they were the ones who could raise capital to buy them…

You got it wrong, RightWinged…it’s allah, the “deity”, and Allah, the blogger.

Didn’t they teach you to capitalize proper nouns in school?! :)

islam’s not a religion, it’s a very powerful and successful cult. It keeps it’s minions in the dark and feeds them sh*t and controls them thru fear and potential death.

The fact that it’s taken this long for the British to “backlash” is flabbergasting, but it is a start. Maybe it’s a start the muslims didn’t expect hence the desperate “hoax” piece.

Blast! Apparently they didn’t teach me to spell either… I spelled it “diety”

You CAN’T loan money for interest under the Koran… thus the only capatlisation a good Moslem has is from the govenrment, or from family….

So the Koran justifies shooting and bombing infidels, but they can’t find a way to twist it to allow them to make money?

By the way, an interesting thought I had today…. You know how all the Muslim world is claiming victory for Hezbollah due to the cease fire? Hezbos are acting like they were able to defeat the mightly Israeli Army. Setting aside the fact that Israel could wipe these people out if they chose to, weren’t these people the same ones who were whining about the disproportionate level of violence from Israel? What do the Hezbos have to show for their “win”, aside from photoshopped images and dozens of other examples of fauxtography? Yes, I understand Israel isn’t a “winner” here either, due to this POS cease fire.. but they certainly weren’t defeated by Hezbollah. And again, I know that no sane person believes the Hezbo’s victory claim… but it just seems odd that everyone was whining about Israel destroying all of Lebanon, but these idiots have the audacity to turn around and claim victory? Sure it sucks that Israel had to cave to “the World”, but they certainly didn’t cave to Hezbollah.

I don’t know, I’m having trouble putting in to words what I’m saying… but I think you get it.

RightWinged on August 15, 2006 at 7:40 PM

Romeo13 that true. Although muslims set up organizations to loan money under different rules there are connections required, and favors must be returned, limiting the movement of money. There are such private loan organizations here in Michigan.

Muslims do better in the U.S. because they set up cash based businesses, party stores, cell phone, smoke stores, gas stations requiring a limited investment, usually under $500,000. There is skimming, underreporting, rigged pumps (a problem here), using family members/illegals to avoid employment taxes etc. There is less baksheesh, or palm greasing required in the U.S. which is a big overhead in their countries. Baksheesh is not good in the judeo-christian world but comes out of the many colors of islam.

For instance, Mohammed cleverly tricked a community into converting to islam. That would be alien to the behaviour of Christ. I watched an iman on cable give women a talk about a clever girl who tricked her fiancee into giving her a larger dowry. That would be alien to Christian relations.

So while out culture often fails in meetingour own rules of decency, our cultural standards are adhered to enough to make business success more possible.

And you need large impersonal banks to make large impersonal loans. That requires interest profits.

Why are Muslims, by and large, so poor?

Because all of their money goes into destroying the infidels?

DannoJyd on August 15, 2006 at 8:32 PM

Whoever coined the phrase ‘Alternate Reality’ was describing Islam perfectly.

Rightwinged, I mark off their Allah from ours as “the fake one, not the Pundit.”

I have a question: Are the Orthodox Jews standing alongside this psycho protesting his venomous hatred, or are they there in solidarity?

If it’s the latter, the power of self-loathing has taken on new magnitude.

Martin on August 15, 2006 at 11:14 PM

Martin - Funny you should mention that. I watched the video and wondered if the two men in the upper right of the screen were orthodox jews.

Babs on August 16, 2006 at 11:00 AM

Eh, I wouldn’t be surprised if it did turn out to be a hoax, or a mistake, or excessive hyping of a half-baked scheme that wouldn’t have worked. It doesn’t quite add up. The implausibility of making organic peroxides in an airplane lavatory makes me wonder whether these alleged conspirators were candidates for a Nobel price in chemistry, or just really, really dumb.

Of course, that’s coming from a chemical plausibility standpoint, not some paranoid “the Jews are going to take over the world” standpoint, like Tamimi.

Mark Jaquith on August 16, 2006 at 3:27 PM

Actually, I’ve read about the methods of business finance that are supposed to be entirely compatible with Islam. The distinction is that the lender becomes an equity player, who effectively owns stock in the business. If the business is successful, the lender profits, but if it is not, the lender can lose. Theoretically, businesses with this sort of financing are less likely to be squeezed out during a downturn.

The other side of the equation is that the more profitable the business is, the more the lender gets, and the higher profits make the value of that equity position higher. When the business owner wants to buy back the lender’s share, it’s going to be worth more than when he sold it to them in the first place. I don’t know the extent to which the financing contracts mitigate against that.

Babs - the most likely explanation is that the two men are Natura Kartei, an anti-Zionist sect that most other Jews say aren’t even real Jews because they’re so far out.
