Slam dunk: the NYT has helped terrorists

Verum Serum has an eye-opener:
The Marietta Times in Marietta, Ohio has a story written by Brad Bauer on the Dearborn men arrested on terrorism charges. There are some interesting bits of information in this article that I’ve not seen anywhere else. It appears these come directly from the county Sheriff handling the case:
Interesting bits, like this:
Authorities say terrorist groups are illegally modifying the pre-paid cell phones to place untraceable international calls.
Now why, ask yourself, would terror types take the trouble to modify pre-paid cell phones? What might have tipped them that international calls might have a silent party taking notes? Hmmmm?

This on the heels of Ed Morrisey’s post about Bill “Old” Keller having lied about the timing of the NSA story.

NYT CHORUS ; (all together now, boys and girls!)
“HOMINA,HOMINA,HOMINA,HOMINA,
HOMINA,HOMINA,HOMINA,HOMINA,
HOMINA,HOMINA,HOMINA,HOMINA,
The public has a right to know!”
heldmyw on August 13, 2006 at 10:43 PM
ANy bets on the cash used to buy them being untraceable too?
bbz123 on August 13, 2006 at 11:15 PM
But their families say they are innocent and are being racially profiled-surprise, surprise. Yes, I run a business where I go to Wal-Mart, buy out all the prepaid cell phones, put some cash on them, and then sell them to some sorry sucker on the street for $5 more than I paid for it. That’s my business—if you believe one of these guy’s wife.

Even the women are LIARS? No. I refuse to believe it.
But if she was wearing a burqa, yes.
TrueKatipunero on August 13, 2006 at 11:44 PM
Yes, if only we were more sensitive to the Muslim community, there would be no problem.
Well. excuse my insensitivity, but I’m beginning to think the solution is to round up that community, put them on boats and send them halfway back to the mideast…

I’m with ChelleFiche. We’ve been plenty accomodating for long enough. Either these people swear an allegiance to the U.S. or they go. We are not at war with some fanatic fringe of a supposed religion of peace–we are at war with Islam. It’s come to this, and these people have no one to blame but themselves. Their act has worn very, very thin.
As an aside, I’m looking to upgrade my home arsenal, especially since these phone-buying terrorists made a stop in the town in which I live along the way.
Bellicose Muse on August 14, 2006 at 1:48 AM
Has the NYT printed detailed instructions on how to rig the cell phones for anonymous calling yet?
Give them a couple of days.

We are not at war with some fanatic fringe of a supposed religion of peace–we are at war with Islam.
Well, Islam is most assuredly at war with us. We don’t seem to be at war with Islam – yet.

What a screwed up country this has become, where the modification of SOMETHING YOU OWN is considered illegal.
As for Kevin’s question: no, but let me know when they do… I want to order my first pizza that the NSA doesn’t know about! That’ll be some good pizza.
Mark Jaquith on August 14, 2006 at 8:39 AM
Gee Mark, sure hope you don’t get killed in the next terror attack.
No worries though. Probably only blow your butt off, since your head is so deeply buried in the sand.
Good luck with that and have a great day!

ISLAM is not a religion , ISLAM is a government and should be dealt with as such.

Had it not been for the drive-by media loudly proclaiming that US intelligence knew UBL’s whereabouts in Tora Bora because of his sat phone use, UBL would have assumed cave temperature years ago.
To the DBM, the phrase “Lose lips sink ships” is not a warning, but an opportunity.
Aunt B on August 14, 2006 at 9:56 AM
Are you really that clueless about what is necessary to fight this war? Or are you just purposefully obtuse?
thirteen28 on August 14, 2006 at 11:49 AM
Aunt B, UBL did assume cave temperature in Dec. of 2001.

When I came home from the middle east in ‘85 the first thing my eyes happened to light upon inside the airport was an apearant arab at the ticket counter. Why does America even take these fools? They’re nothing but sleeper cells and collaborators. I don’t care what anyone says, I’ve never met a good one and I’ve met thousands.
Its statements like the one made by mark jaquith, above, that help to normalize the towlel-heads and bring suspicion on anyone questioning their presence.
Get over your petty little problems, folks, WWIII is here and if you’re not willing to do what must be done you may just be counted a casuality.
Be suspicious of everything that a moslem does, keep watch around churches and synagogs. If you see one of them doing ANYTHING strange contact the authorities at once. Stnd up to the foolish PC nonsense whenever you see it.
This is a war of cultures, I’d much prefer that western culture wins, wouldn’t you?
Death to Islam, and
their mediot stooges!
Duty, Honor, Country

It’s on my list of things that I cannot really control, but would like to avoid, along with lightning strikes and shark attacks.
This effort can be fought without doing away with the Fourth Amendment or the concept of ownership of private property. It may not be fought to your satisfaction, but that’s how things work in America. Freedom is guaranteed to us… protection from terrorist attacks is not. Terrorists do not pose a grave risk to our country. They do not have the numbers or the capabilities to bring this country down. This isn’t an issue of destroying our freedoms temporarily in order to preserve the Union. Even when our freedoms have been taken away because the country was at risk, they were not restored. Remember that “temporary” and “small” Federal income tax levied to fight The War Between the States? Or how about the draft? So what makes you think that these new reductions in freedom will be reversed when they were undertaken with far less reluctance for a vastly more trivial reason?
Evolution of American Sentiment Post 9/11:
1. They’re attacking us!
2. Let’s attack them!
3. Hm… they’re using our freedom.
4. Let’s attack our freedom!
5. If you care more about freedom than safety, you’re a terrorist sympathizer.
I was with you through step 2. I still support the use of military force to fight international terrorists. I will not support the destruction of American freedoms to do the same.
Rowane,
For the brief time that your comment remains, let me just say: you’re a racist.
Mark Jaquith on August 15, 2006 at 3:36 PM
We’ve had a pretty decent couple of months in the comments here, but I see now that a few more bannings might be in order.
That’s your only warning, Rowane. And darwin, who begins every thread lately with a reminder about how much he hates Muslims: if you’re reading this, you’re on notice too.
