Video: Robert Spencer on Iran’s plans for August 22nd

The boss and I had it out over IM last night about whether this August 22nd doomsday warning is something right-wing pundits should be talking about. We did manage to agree on two points: 1) Like Bernard Lewis, Robert Spencer’s always worth listening to, and 2) when an American television show books the author of “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam,” that in itself is a newsworthy event.

If only there were some way for him to get his message out in video format that bypassed the mainstream media. Hmmm.

I do think the apocalypse-now stuff has potential as a video trope, particularly if it were incorporated into a weekly weather report. “Clear skies ’til Sunday, Bill, except for Thursday, which happens to be the anniversary of Mohammed sacrificing a goat. A very important day for Shiites. I’m calling for a 40% chance of showers and a 20% chance of nuclear war in Tel Aviv.”

Glenn’s great although sometimes a bit wacky! But this time he right on! And while it my not be on August 22, 2006, its coming. Wake up Christians and Jews! The IX Crusade has begun.

Serious shite ahead!
Destroy Iran now.

Robert Spencer always carries himself with such a calm and collected presence. His expertise and logic is air tight.

It’s a great comfort to know that he is on our side.

Glenn is my talking head of choice these days, since I have to subscribe to the more expensive cable plan if I wanna get Fox.

Glenn is part of my morning commute every day. He’s a smart guy, if not for book-smarts, then definitely common sense. As I saw on this site last night, “Common Sense is inversely proportional to political correctness.”

I wonder how many western nuclear nations now have Tehran as a primary target.

Spencer makes a great point in stating that Bin Laden is filthy rich, yet willing to live in caves and hide (likely move frequently as well) in order to adhere to his beloved Islam. For too many in this world now Islam is a death cult, and it trumps everything else. Money? Women? Compassion? Service to your fellow man? Mere distractions to the true goal and prize, and directly in opposition to values taught as the core of Judaism and Christianity.

I’m not saying Lewis and Spencer are hitting the nail on the head, and in fact hope they are quite wrong, but I could easily see the Satanic influence that Islam has over so many of those people causing them to attempt something like this.

Bellicose Muse on August 11, 2006 at 10:39 AM

Western nuclear nations only, Darwin? While they’re probably not crazy about the idea of making an ash out of the boys from Tehran, there have to be one or two north and east of the area who are looking at the red button right now and sighing in exasperation.

If Iran and the Islamofascist regimes stick their head out of the nuclear hole, George is going to be entertaining phone calls from the other two BIG players in the game…Possibly with the words “Where is YOURS going to be coming from and where is it going to be hitting?” neatly fit in after the words “We don’t want to have to do this, BUT…”

The day of “The Strangest Bedfellows of All” may be on the way.

Aug 22 is my son’s 13th birthday. I hope nothing happens on that day, then again, I hope nothing like this happens on any day.

StephC on August 11, 2006 at 11:19 AM

Alrighty, Israel’s got to be considering this too–I wonder what they are doing about it?

Bob's Kid on August 11, 2006 at 11:25 AM

I hope to God that the Iranians don’t have a Nuke, cause I really am afraid they’re CRAZY enough to be willing to light it off somewhere.

They can’t win, but they don’t seem to care.

gmoonster on August 11, 2006 at 12:45 PM

Relax people…Iran will be a veritable glass factory IF they ever use one of those things…

Please, yes. I don’t know who that “Glenn” guy is, but what a clown! I didn’t make myself watch that. Surely HotAir can arrange to interview Robert Spencer, huh? Now that Ace has lost his video virginity (and has surprised us by being much easier on the eyes than he’d led us to believe), can you think of a way Ace could conduct the interview?

Kralizec on August 11, 2006 at 1:18 PM

They can’t win, but they don’t seem to care.

That’s the whole point of this clip – the religious fanaticism trumps the will to live on this earth. by blowing jerusalem to kingdom come and trying to bring forth the second coming of their messiah, they “win.” by dying a martyr, they “win” because they get their 72 virgins. to them, it’s actually a win-win situation for them, in their sick, twisted minds. THAT’S why this is soooo scary.

Hey, would love more info please on the debate between you and “the boss” (you make Michelle sound like a mob kingpin lol). We don’t need (or at least, I don’t need) the full transcript, but I’d love to see what position each of you took and what arguments you used to back them up.

thirteen28 on August 11, 2006 at 2:01 PM

She took the position that there’s nothing wrong with esteemed scholars like Lewis and Spencer pointing this stuff out. We shouldn’t hide from Islamic doctrine. It’s obviously very important to Ahmadinejad, and he’s obviously a very important figure.

I took the position that it’s somewhat irresponsible to throw this stuff out there unless we have good reason to think he’s going to act on it. It makes us all sound like cranks if he doesn’t — like those communes where the leader predicts the apocalypse on a certain date and they all go out in the field and wait for it.

Allahpundit on August 11, 2006 at 2:04 PM

“I’m calling for a 40% chance of showers and a 20% chance of nuclear war in Tel Aviv.” LOL@AP..
I am with both of you. Sometimes I think we should be taking this more seriously but then it occurs that we look like the “endtime” crazies by expounding on it (altho I have several times right here).
IF, just IF the Persians particularly that MPIC (Midget Persian in Charge) lets loose his nuclear hounds on ANY target, soon after ALL of Iran will be sharing the the hole/cave/well of the ‘hidden imam”

labwrs on August 11, 2006 at 2:10 PM

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you and “The Boss” had a good “sit down” and she didn’t decide to have you “whacked”.

thirteen28 on August 11, 2006 at 2:11 PM

Agreed, it would be irresponsible to just throw out stuff without reason. It would make us look like a bunch of apocalypse waiting cranks. If nothing happens, good. If something happens, the where & what is what I want to know.

But how does one understand this, if no Intelligence is evident? I hope someone on our side is on top of this.

Kini on August 11, 2006 at 2:15 PM

The Iranian Presidant said he would respond on August 22nd.
What form that response will take is unknown at this point.
He is a deeply religious fellow and we know that he feels he has a close relationship with the 12th Imam hiding in a well. For all we know his response could be a simple “No” or he could send a signal to the Jihadi cells around the world to activate before he Lights up Jerusalem.
I don’t think there is any harm in discussing what his plans could be…really… we’ll just have to wait and see.

Catnip on August 11, 2006 at 2:56 PM

I don’t see the problem in using it…

After all, Ahmadinejad, The President of Iran has said loudly and repeatedly that such is is his goal.

It is not as if it is something some kid living in his mother’s basement came up with from his fevered mind…. This is a guy that has the financial resources of a major oil producing nation and ten million nutjobs who would gladly give their lives to take ours at his command.

To not take it seriously seems foolish to me, (even though I’m not going to be hiding under my bed OR stocking any extra ammunition over it).

LegendHasIt on August 11, 2006 at 5:50 PM

Lewis and Spencer both write excellent books that should be on the bookshelf of every conservative. Way to go Glenn (ya sick, twisted freak) for having Spencer on your show.

I just saw H n’ C on Fox interview the muslim black panther wacko from the McKinney campaign. He was so way out there that even Alan was argueing with him.
