Kurtz will always have a soft spot in my heart for his work on Rathergate, but between not challenging Ricks on Sunday and admitting here that he wouldn’t have known the Hajj photo was fake unless a four-year-old blind retarded child had told him, I’m beginning to wonder.
I don’t want to draw rolled eyes. But think about it.
Update: I think we should wager on whether the NYT photo has been ’shopped or not, but I don’t know what to make the stakes. Anyone have suggestions?
All my chips on “not.”
Update: Did I forget to mention that Anderson Cooper admits in the clip that Hezbollah is staging photos?

Most interesting and heartening is the slooooowly dawning light that bloggers, readers and plain ol’ doubters are having an impact on the MSM’s more-than-lightly-slanted, crooked, cheating, lying behaviors.
A few more humiliations, a few more firings, and perhaps News reporting will begin to improve.
I’m not waiting up nights for it to happen.

I would like to do one of my new audio podcasts on this topic. Unfortunately I am unable to pronounce exotic names like “Johnson” so for the time being I haven’t podcasted this story, even though I have written it up. When I learn to properly pronounce “Johnson,” I will definitely do the audio podcast on this topic.

The part that is really interesting, IMO, is the Anderson Cooper bit at the end. He’s admitting that Hezballah stages photo-ops and that photo-journalists snap away at the event.

Hey MSM, don’t be so paranoid. Just because you think there are people eagerly waiting to pounce when you blow it shouldn’t stop you from trying. If at first you blow it, blow, blow, blow again, and LFG and F/R will there to heap derision upon your worthless hides.

Charles, buddy. Do you own a shirt with a collar? Even one?
Damn hipsters.

Leave ‘em alone :) He’s the only guy that even remotely looks like my now obsolete mental picture of Ace.

I don’t have any chips, but would you like to set up a PayPal transfer of a particular amount? You’ve got my email address. I’m just stunned that you think the photo is real. It’s almost as bad as the Hajj job. Regardless of whether or not the black guy was staying at the hospital too, his face is clearly pasted on to what is most likely a woman wearing a headscarf’s body.

I have always found Anderson Cooper to be fair. Although one has to wonder if he would have shared this story about the ambulances if this fake photo thing hadn’t come up.
He is so cute btw, too bad he’s gay. (at least too bad for the women)

So, bottom line is, the MSM has had a gravy train for so long that they are lazy and stupid, yes.
d1carter on August 9, 2006 at 11:53 PM
No, not so fast(MM says), what about all the stringers in Iraq that were posting photos and stories that were just as bad.
d1carter on August 9, 2006 at 11:55 PM
I really hope no one falls for the lame excuse that the MSM has merely been “lazy” or incompetent. The difference between photoshopped or staged Hezbollah agitprop and the rest of their anti-American, Bush-hate verbal bilge is only that we can see and dissect images, while words are harder to pin down or expose in such a concrete way. But at least since the liberation of Afghanistan, the MSM (for the most part) has done nothing but serve as a willing tool of the enemy, by doing all it possible can to discredit, and even remove, the American war leadership and the American will to achieve victory. They are al-Qaeda’s and Hezbollah’s and Hamas’s dream come true: an in-place, ready-to-go, worldwide megaphone manned not just by useful idiots, but by willing and eager anti-West agents.

It’s very strange to realize that most of the MSM has become a propaganda arm of America’s enemies, and is itself perhaps the most dangerous enemy we have. While blogs can expose frauds like the fauxtography, most of America still slumbers, blissfully unaware that the MSM is trying as hard as possible to do us in. One has to wonder what advantage they think they will achieve by an American defeat. Most of them are leftists/socialists, so it’s understandable that they would want China or Russia to win, but they seem equally ready to succumb to an Islamic caliphate.

Bravo, Anderson. Now don’t leave it there – take it a step further, why don’t you.
As to Kurtz: the point he didn’t make, after explaining how comparatively insignificant the differences really were between the [un]retouched photos, is this:
If this [st]ringer Hajj was willing to cross the line on an edit with such little payoff as this, then is there any picture he won’t touch or doesn’t touch?
His edit of this photo tells me that his “threshold” must already be so low that he’s basically willing to edit any shot whatsoever.
Has *anything* this guy has produced from the Middle East ever been left alone, or has he manipulated them simply as a matter of routine?
That’s something Howard Kurtz (and those like him) hasn’t gone near.
