Rumors quickly spread among the locals that an Israeli aircraft had been shot down, but they dissipated just as quickly when Israel denied that any of its aircraft had been hit, and no Israeli wreckage was ever produced from the tire fire. An Al-Jazeera camera crew accidentally filmed the misfired Hezbollah missile in the distance as it spun through the air and landed in the dump. Hezbollah made the best of the incident by using the resulting fire as a backdrop to a posed photo shoot with willing Reuters photographers. [...]

I guess Hajj must be breathing a little easier now that his billowing smoke image is no longer the worst photoshop ever.

The Times image is not only deceptive and reputation damaging to the max but it’s such an outrageously horrible fraud that it must be held up for mockery for ages and “New York Times” should become a punchline.

Sorry, having trouble commenting today for some reason. Just trying to state that it was not that long ago that we were only able to get our news from the MSM – I’m surprised we ever made it out of the Cold War – thank God for the alternative media (or Al Gore for inventing the internet).

Many years ago, when large format cameras were used, retouching was done on both negatives and prints. This was especially true of professional portraits, when blemishes, etc were removed to ‘improve’ images.

But the most famous (or infamous) altering of photographs was done by the Soviets during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Several group photos of officials were published over the years, and when a person in the picture became a ‘non-person’, he magically disappeared from the photo.

Manipulating photos started long before Photoshop, and many were published. And photographers were manipulating their photos long before computers — such as there only a few photos of FDR in a wheelchair or with crutches, because photographers would not take the picture. Even some of Matthew Brady’s photos of the Civil War were ’staged’.

Only diligent, knowledgeable editors can make sure the photos they publish are faithful renditions of the subject.

It would not be suprising at all if these things were set up as actual events, with a press release and all-be at “x” corner to see the devastation at such and such a time. It would be very interesting to hear any comment at all on how the photographers and the print stringers get their story info. So it is interesting how many show up at the same place, and also-how “different” photographers with “different” names get the same images. Also-it shows a general climate of sloppy editing. Not catching the same places over and over again. Disgraceful.

With regards to the NYT photographer-the same Tayler Hicks is the one who did the front page fauxtography that the NY Slimes is eating crow over now…This guy, if you look him up is a fairly big fan of the Palestinians and the Taliban. ALSO: his pictures of the “GAZA BEACH MASSACRE” are also very telling-again-you gotta wonder if some kind of press release went out to these a-holes….
