Mass. legislature to troops: No tuition breaks for you!

The new Democrats: Don’t question their toughness against terrorism, even if they can’t decide whether Hezbollah’s rocket barrage on Israeli cities constitutes terrorism or whether Israel’s response is legitimate or “proportional” or whether the US should bother to support the only real democracy in the Middle East, and even if they kicked out the one Democrat Senator that’s easily identified as pro-security. At least they’re not shorting the troops on anything.
Lawmakers have slammed the classroom door shut on Massachusetts soldiers home from Iraq and seeking to go to state college, failing to cough up $8 million needed for crucial tuition waivers.
Army and Air National Guard soldiers expecting to be rewarded for their war duty under Gov. Mitt Romney’s “Welcome Home” bill found the welcome mat ripped out last week by the Legislature as it ended its formal session without approving money for the waivers.
Well, ok. The Mass. legislature just didn’t get around to voting in those tuition breaks. It’s not like they did vote in tuition breaks for any less deserving group.
Wait…
Lashing out at the “wrong priorities” of lawmakers, Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey said, “The Legislature has made the appalling decision to vote on things like tuition breaks for illegal immigrants, but they couldn’t take the time to take a vote to help our Massachusetts war heroes . . . I find it deeply disturbing.”
The Massachusetts legislature–dominated by Democrats in that bluest of blue states–can’t stir itself to approve tuition breaks for the troops, while it can find time for giving tuition breaks to illegals.
But hey, that’s no reason to question anyone’s patriotism. Is it?

Well, at least the troops can marry each other.

How about if the soldiers can physically deport an illegal immigrant, they get the illegal’s tuition break?
Savage on August 9, 2006 at 11:43 AM
Just another brick in the wall. Then they wonder why so many of us veterans and active duty types are conservative.
Centurion68 on August 9, 2006 at 11:44 AM
They Support the Troops, but not the War. B***S***, this shows what the Dems really think of the Military. I would like to see some neighboring state offer tuition assistance and support the Massachusetts troops. Who will step up????
dallas94 on August 9, 2006 at 11:55 AM
Don,t you get it….This is how the liberals support the troops…Thats why the have such high military support, right?
LOL

Illegals should all be rounded up like cattle and driven the hell out of America.
Some will pass along the way but they chose to break the law in the first place.
Kramer on August 9, 2006 at 12:23 PM
Uncredible. Imbelievable. Well, returning troops should not show any ID, and claim they are illegal immigrants. They cannot be questioned as long as they keep repeating no habla english. Problem solved.
Typical Taxachusetts. I’m wondering if the legislature actually voted for it, before voting against it.

Saying one supports the troops but opposes their current mission is tantamount to say that one supports abortion on demand but is against killing infants in the womb. The one goes with the other for crap sake! The hypocracy is literally dripping off these people.

Well the Commonwealth of VA pretty much does the same thing (brought to you by Mark Warner, another darling of the dems). They give military or their spouses one year of in-state tutution and give illegals how many years they want. I can’t understand why in the hell everyone is cow towing to a bunch of fools who are law breakers. It’s in both parties and it makes me sick. Of course in typical Dem fashion the idiots in MA chose to recognicize the more “deserving” illegal immigrants than the less “deserving” soldiers. That’s what their message is. It’s funny how the dems don’t get it. Even though most of the Soldiers I know are sick of deploying and God knows I’m sick of my husband being on his third tour, I know this, the troops still feel like the Republicans have their best interest at heart. Libs and Dems just give lip service and pat themselves on the back that they cottened to speak to one of the lowly people in the military. I see where their priorities are but wish I could say this was an odd case.
Catie96706 on August 9, 2006 at 12:40 PM
These people don’t speak Spanish.
Spanish is a much more respected language.
They speak Spenglish.
Most can’t even write it.
30 million + illegal ignorants…..oh, but damn good grass cutters….
Jobs that Americans won’t do….
They’re just here for the votes then they will be pushed back under the rug until the next vote.
Kramer on August 9, 2006 at 12:46 PM
I can only say that the next time there is a storm related disater in good ole Mass. the guard and reserves should remember this, call in and say “no halba ingles”…
robo on August 9, 2006 at 1:21 PM
Catie96706, a big THANK YOU and a big hug!
The soldiers mostly vote conservative. The illegals and families are the current/next liberal ‘plantation’. The Blacks, who some day will realize this, never received anything from the Left for being taken for granted and were dropped as soon as the Latinos became the largest minority, a couple of years ago. Shameless.
Entelechy on August 9, 2006 at 1:23 PM
Sure they did Entelechy, they received the great ghetto culture, high rates of welfare and imprisonment, broken families, the list goes on….
ScottG on August 9, 2006 at 1:28 PM
The Dems know they are not going to get votes from the troops, so their focus is on those they can manipulate.
Rick on August 9, 2006 at 1:45 PM
ScottG, I’m with you – I should have said “…never received anything positive…” – Thomas Sowell wrote an entire books about it.
Entelechy on August 9, 2006 at 1:49 PM
Somebody just explain to me how it can be legal to give benefits to illegal aliens, but not legal residents.
I think I’ll stop typing now to duct tape my head before it explodes.
darwin on August 9, 2006 at 1:50 PM
darwin, we could run a thread just on this subject – stupidity abounds with our leaders on both sides of the isle.
ScottG, just checked out your site and found this:
What a brilliant message to our ‘friends’.
Entelechy on August 9, 2006 at 2:00 PM
If I remember correctly, the legislature did not approve the tuition breaks for illegals, but, unlike the breaks proposed for our troops, they did vote on it. This is typical in MA, they run for cover when it comes time to vote on certain pieces of legislation.
mcane64 on August 9, 2006 at 2:32 PM
This literally makes me sick to my stomach.
p0s3r on August 9, 2006 at 3:03 PM
While in-state tuition for illegals has been proposed in Massachusetts, it has never passed. Our local talk radio stations are all over that topic the two (?) times it has been brought up.
Richsamg on August 9, 2006 at 3:18 PM
Have you gone to a Hospital ER lately??
Here is a good one happening now:
Richsamg on August 9, 2006 at 3:30 PM
Richsamg,
Yeah I remember Howie Carr being all over it everytime it came up. I sent Bryan an email so he can at least correct the post.
mcane64 on August 9, 2006 at 3:41 PM
I’m too disgusted for words. … No, actually, I’m not. As far as I’m concerned if the jihadis ever invade New England the American part of the U.S. should just stand back and watch. Not one Soldier, one Marine, not one missile or bomb. They deserve each other.

Ahhh, for the love of God, why are all the post now automatically hyperlinked to an article about a lyposuction fatality?
Why?
Make it stop, please…
EFG on August 9, 2006 at 4:03 PM
C’mon Bill we’re not all bad up here. How do you think all us normal people up here feel seeing all the crap that goes here up close and personal?
EFG, I was wondering the same thing. It’s actually an article about a Brazilian couple performing lyposuction in their basement.
mcane64 on August 9, 2006 at 4:25 PM
It is not just an illegal performing an illegal procedure.
Its an illegal dies while undergoing a procedure from someone who has no medical licence up here (not sure about back in Brazil). The Doctor and his wife have been coming up here for the past several years to do these for cash. He and the wife came into the country on a temp work permit (who signed him in for that?). Did the job in another, most likely, illegal’s home (how did they get that mortgage)with the home owner acting as a booking agent for the pretend doctor. Oh yeah, the dead girl was employed as a nanny/housekeeper for some couple in another town. I wonder if they took out withholdings for their illegal nanny/housekeeper? I think I know that answer.
That will make someone’s head blow.
Richsamg on August 9, 2006 at 5:09 PM
Illegal immigrants, doing the illegal medical procedures that legal citizens won’t!
mcane64 on August 9, 2006 at 5:17 PM
At first glance this appears to be anti-patriotic but, in fact, it is MUCH WORSE THAN THAT. This was a political decision which said “screw you” to our own soldiers. Illegal aliens, after they become naturalized (and, alas, sometimes even BEFORE that) vote 95% Democratic whereas only about 25-30% of our servicemen do. This is the bottom line. But what do expect from a state in which one of its Senators threw away his medals and the other threw away his girlfriend?
MaiDee on August 9, 2006 at 6:34 PM
Well, I *used* to make sure the shoes I bought were made in the U.S.A. The majority of those shoemakers are still headquartered in New England. Don’t think I’ll bother any longer.

Oh the bill will be back. They shut down quick for the summer. You have no idea how bad the traffic is for these reps to get to their places on Cape Cod.
