Video: Dem mavericks Beckel, Caddell take notice fringe is seizing party
posted at 4:30 pm on August 8, 2006 by Ian
On last night’s Hannity & Colmes, a panel consisting of Democratic Strategists Bob Beckel and Pat Caddell and Republican Strategist Fred Barnes discussed today’s Lieberman-Lamont primary.
Beckel, who is known to be quite liberal and to the left, was called a moderate by liberal bloggers because he is friends with Senator Lieberman and defends him:
BOB BECKEL: And the last thing I’d say about this is the blogosphere. I talked to these people today who are accusing me of being a moderate of all things. The fact is they make a lot of noise, they can raise a lot of money, but they can yet to prove they can deliver any votes. And if they can’t do it in Connecticut, they can’t do it anywhere.
Pat Caddell comments on the kook fringe of the Democratic party:
CADDELL: I think if he loses, you’re going to empower what I call the real fringe of this Party, who believe that they’ve been right all along and they’re going to start setting litmus tests for everybody.
Watch out Pat, you’re next!

I watched this last night, and it was probably the most fun I’d had watching H&C in a long time. I hope Lamont wins. Not that the stupid party is perfect or even remotely close, but they are a thousand times better than the evil party. And that’s good enough for me.

I always thought Caddell looked like the Alternate Universe Spock.
Whoever wins this fight still loses. Perfect.

What’s happening in the Connecticut primary is the drill in Louisiana elections. It’s so disgusting; I can’t find the humor in it.

Even though Hannity & Colmes is no longer what it used to be (maybe in pursuit of controversy and ratings, on both sides of the arguments), I saw this segment last night.
Pat Caddell, along with Lanny Davis, and most of the time Susan Estrich, are the sane Democrat advisors, whom no one listens to (thus the losing track).
It was telling how frustrated Pat Caddell was for the ‘insanity’ in his party. He kept repeating “…watch what will happen Wednesday, if the -roots win”.
Most telling in the segment was the cat who stole the canary smile on Fred Barnes’ nose, throughout, without him actually saying much. He looked very pleased, indeed.

RobertHuntingdon, I forgot to convey to you that you summed up my sentiments exactly, as regards the current status of our parties. Thanks.

What kind of chemicals are they using to treat the drinking water in Connecticut and Massachusetts? Their residents remind me of the flying monkeys in the Land of Oz (Soros as wicked witch). Boston should rethink it’s highway system, abandon the Big Dig and just put in a yellow brick road.

Democrats are taking a stand in Connecticut you say? They’re digging in and throwing all of their support behind who? Ed Lamont.
Who is he, and what does he stand for? Uh, we don’t really know who he is, where the hell he came from or what experience he has to hold office, but one thing we do know is what he stands for. He’s 100% against anything President Bush has ever done or said. And he really, really, really hates war. You know, he told us that people actually die in wars. He’s the Man. Kos has even given Ed the “Blogger World Seal of Approval”.
This is what’s become of the Democrat Party in America. No vision, no plans, no backbone and a nobody running for the US Senate. How pathetic.
Can’t wait for the fall elections when they get “surprised” yet again.

Sorry ……. Ned Lamont, not that it matters.

So, in Connecticut, the nutroots squandered tubs of money, goodwill and energy, fractured the party, created an independent challenger for the November election, looked like vicious, racist idiots (with the blackface stunt), alienated a significant minority of the electorate…
…and all in an attempt to replace an experienced, very liberal democrat, with an inexperienced slightly more liberal democrat… Right?
Karl? Karl Rove? Is that you? I know you’re behind this, Karl.
