I wasn’t planning to open this thread for another three hours but Karol sent me something so sweet, I had to share before we got scooped.
Consider this an open thread for all things related to Liebs and the Freshmaker or Hank Johnson and Jihad Cindy. Exit polls and results will be posted here later too. And we’re still accepting predictions. But in the meantime, enjoy politics the way it ought to be. I’d like to tell you that the fat guy with the chair-throwing problem is the Democrat and the mafioso type is the Republican.
I’d like to. But I can’t.

Update: Faced with the prospect of an ascendant nutroots, Rick Moran escapes into fantasy.
Update: “That’s right, and I’ll touch you again, if you do it again.” Mitigating factor: it wasn’t a cop this time.
Update: We have our first Kos TV appearance of the night, courtesy of — who else? — Keith Olbermann. Kos bete noire Dean Barnett reports.
Update: First returns in Connecticut:
U.S. Senator
Candidate Party Votes
Joseph Lieberman Dem 1,188
Ned Lamont Dem 1,747
And in Georgia, with 8% reporting:
Candidate Votes Vote %
Hank Johnson 1514 74%
Cynthia McKinney (I) 537 26%
Update: Connecticut 8:36 p.m.:
Joseph Lieberman Dem 4,586
Ned Lamont Dem 6,814
Update: 8:51. I’m officially nervous:
Ned Lamont 12,236 56%
Joe Lieberman 9,535 44%
Update: 8:53. CT site used to post election results is down.
Update (Ian): 8:58. GA results still sluggish:
Hank Johnson 2126 74%
Cynthia McKinney 745 26%
Update: 9:03. 17% in. Can no one hear my cries?
Ned Lamont 29,463 56%
Joe Lieberman 22,898 44%
Carl Cameron on Fox says they might call it for the Freshmaker soon.
Update: 9:13 p.m. A full 25% reporting.
Ned Lamont 40,044 55%
Joe Lieberman 32,575 45%
Update: 9:32 p.m. 38% in.
Ned Lamont 61,449 54%
Joe Lieberman 53,159 46%
Update (Ian): 9:33. Chris Matthews called Lamont very “calm”, “casual”, and not “that bad”. On the other hand, Lieberman is a “schmaltzy ethnic guy”. Geez, Chris, could you make it any clearer?
Update: Is Liebs closing the gap?? 9:37 p.m., 50% in:
Ned Lamont 69,466 52%
Joe Lieberman 64,056 48%
Update (Ian): 9:40 p.m., 16% in, a boost for McKinney:
Hank Johnson 3384 64%
Cynthia McKinney 1876 36%
Update (Ian): 9:43 p.m., AP reports Lamont leads Lieberman 52% to 48% with 55% reporting.
Update: 64% in, and Joe’s closing the gap!
Lamont, Ned 89,814 51.60%
Lieberman, Joe (i) 84,231 48.40%
Update: Drudge has the siren up and says “Lieberman on the brink.” He’s only 3% down, but he’s running out of precincts. The bright side is, this pretty much ensures an independent run.
That’s not the only bright side. 35% reporting in Georgia:
Hank Johnson 11255 61%
Cynthia McKinney (I) 7062 39%
Update: Drudge has the “Winner” asterisk up next to Lamont’s name.
Update: 84% reporting. Just as I predicted:
Ned Lamont 120,616 52%
Joe Lieberman 111,887 48%
Update: 52% reporting in Georgia and Hank’s still hammering McK:
Hank Johnson 17907 58%
Cynthia McKinney (I) 12934 42%
Update: 68% reporting in Georgia and Johnson’s margin is holding. 87% reporting in Connecticut and so is Ned Lamont’s.
Update: Lieberman called Lamont to concede the election. He’s speaking now. We’ll have video soon.
Update: NBC in Atlanta calls it for Hank Johnson.
Update: Here’s video of Hank Johnson’s victory speech. It worked fine for me in IE but not Firefox. It’ll be a little bit before we have video of Lieberman’s non-concession, but stick around. It’s worth it.
I’ll have video of the Freshmaker in ten minutes or so.
Update: Final margin — Lamont, 52-48. Allah’s prediction ten hours ago — Lamont, 52-48.
That’s how the pros do it, baby.
Update: I knew someone was going to write a post like this. Heh.
Update: Here’s the empty suit who just won the Connecticut primary delivering what must be the first victory speech in history to begin with a call for retreat. Repulsive.
Goldstein thinks he saw a familiar face in the crowd.
Update: No video of the McKinney concession yet, but it sounds like it was a barnburner:
In a bizarre end to her reelection campaign, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney gathered her supporters around her and attempted to sing along to a song by Pink and the Indigo Girls called “Dear Mr. President.”
“Let me tell you about hard work, minimum wage with a baby on the way,” McKinney sang out as the song played in the background. Eventually, McKinney conceded the race at 12:36 a.m. with one sentence: “I wish the new representative of the 4th Congressional District well.”
Update (Ian): 8/9 1:47 a.m.: Lieberman concession speech:
Update (Ian): 8/9 3:17 a.m.: McKinney implies the race was stolen in her concession speech. Mind you, she lost by 16%, 5,000 votes, with very low turnout.

And on the OTHER hand you’ve got Lamont’s toe the new party line speech, flanked by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson..
Flanked by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?!
“Stay the course is bad”
“socialized medicine”
“new campaign financing laws to stop lobbyists” (ahem, who funded your campaign?)
“new foreign policy!” (I’m sorry.. do Senators determine foreign policy? I thought that was an executive branch thing…)
oooh boy.. the kos kids are going to be impossible for the next 3 months…
Skywise on August 8, 2006 at 11:25 PM
As I sit here and listen to Ned, who is surrounded by the likes of Jessie [Me First!] Jackson, it sure shows what a class act Joe is.
Lamont whines about how it all is the fault of the President, Joe decried the partisanship in Washington today. I thus think the democratic party must be more split than is being reported.
Entelechy, dittoes on the Hotair family.
DannoJyd on August 8, 2006 at 11:25 PM
labwrs,
It’s hard to believe how easy it is to lead the press around. Lori Geary is parroting the “white vote” excuse. I’m in the Gwinnett sliver of the 4th and that sure didn’t account for this kind of defeat.
I better get my Catherine Davis campaign started.
RW_theoriginal on August 8, 2006 at 11:28 PM
Capitalist ‘pig’ “sorry to make you wait so long, the drink’s on me” - on his left the top of NOW, behind him, well you can see…
“…good paying jobs are leaving our community…but I will give you all a job right now” - ok, I made that up…
“…I will pay for healthcare for all now” - made that up too
“…I will invest in the future of America”…
“…I will fix America’s budget”…
“…I will execute all lobbyists, just vote for me”…
“…I will fix Congress”….
“…I will bring the troop home to the heroes’ welcome”…
“…I will fix GW’s failed foreign policies”
“…I knew President Kennedy and I will better him as your Senator”…
“…I will kiss our allies’ butt, but with respect”…
“…the Connecticut voter is the true America”
“…Senator Lieberman is decent and now I hope he drops dead”…
“…it was an impossible dream and we succeeded thanks to the netroots, whom just two days ago I knew nothing about”
“…Maxine Waters is more of a friend than the others who are here”
“…political races are not Hell on the family, I bring all of them to Hell”
“…everything is possible, only in America. Crazy. Amen”
“…my name is Ned Lamont and I approve this message”
Verruecktenfreude! Schadenfreude!
Entelechy on August 8, 2006 at 11:29 PM
Ned looks good giving his victory speech while flanked by two of America’s most senior race baiters/pimps.
It’s going to be an interesting Fall.

Best quote so far, one of the FireDogLake sages:
She really thinks this is a blow against Karl Rove.
I can’t stand it.
B Moe on August 8, 2006 at 11:33 PM
WOW Entelechy…that is hilarious! Did you copy it verbatim?
RW, I missed that. I did see the catfight between Jovita and Lori about exactly WHO Evans talked to FIRST..pathetic.
I hope Joe Liberman wins SO big in November! Maybe he can take the gloves off now tho regarding all the slander sent his way.
labwrs on August 8, 2006 at 11:33 PM
Cynthia is delaying until the local news coverage isnt LIVE to come down to make a statement to her rapidly dwindling supporters. How COWARDLY!
labwrs on August 8, 2006 at 11:36 PM
Where are you watching that, labwrs? Online somewhere?
Allahpundit on August 8, 2006 at 11:37 PM
Local TV Allah..the anchor on WSBTV just made a snarky remark as they were going off air
labwrs on August 8, 2006 at 11:38 PM
Now that’s funny.
Can you imagine if it turns out that the trouble with Joe’s website was a ham fisted hack job by an identifiable nutroots denizen/Lamont groupie?
That’s the sort of thing Rove would set up, isn’t it?
Bwaahahahahaaa!
Pablo on August 8, 2006 at 11:40 PM
Kid from Brooklin (always liked your handle :) I agree fully with your ‘decomposition’ theory.
labwrs, I started watching, while I was fiddling on HotAir…and I just kept on typing. Being that I have a sick sense of humor I kept reading into what he said and what I thought :)
I live for nights like these because I’m a political junkie.
Entelechy on August 8, 2006 at 11:42 PM
labwrs,
Maybe she’s still looking for her Congressional pin before she comes down. Either that or looking for about 13,000 votes.
RW_theoriginal on August 8, 2006 at 11:42 PM
Kid from Brooklyn, sincerely sorry to mess up your beautiful handle…too much adrenaline…ah, no excuses (’cause I’m not a leftie) - I simply messed up.
Entelechy on August 8, 2006 at 11:45 PM
Entelechy..I think your mind “heard” it correctly! Priceless!
ALLAH: WSB is going to update live at 12:30aEST so perhaps they will have her statement (taped) of course. It also might be on their website when it happens. All the local news ends at 11:35p so she waited them out.
labwrs on August 8, 2006 at 11:45 PM
BTW, THANK YOU HOTAIR and everyone! This was a really enjoyable evening! I think the Kid’s haikus were fabulous too!
labwrs on August 8, 2006 at 11:47 PM
Allah, for sure C-Span1 will have her speech and Mr. Johnson’s. They carry all these things faithfully. Of course you know this - just making sure.

Allah: FYI, WSBTV.com has Hank’s victory speech up on their video page so I assume they will have vid of Cynthia as soon as it is available IF she makes an appearance.
labwrs on August 8, 2006 at 11:53 PM
There’s plenty more where that came from. As always, thanks to Michelle, Allah, Bryan and now Ian (that about covers it, no?) for the stage with which to showcase my adolescent humor.
The Yanks just lost, so on that note, I’m out like a fat kid in Dodgeball. Until tomorow; Love, peace, and toilet seats.

Moulitsas coming up in moments on MSNBC on no other than Olberman
Entelechy on August 9, 2006 at 12:04 AM
MSNBC - Matthews is pissed that Mr. Lieberman is not quitting. Boy is he pissed. His face is about to pop.
Entelechy on August 9, 2006 at 12:06 AM
She is LIVE now! WSB came back live to carry her remarks. She is stalling again asking her supporters to wait just a few more minutes and bear with her before she makes further statements.
Now Daddy is with her and they are posing for still pictures. Still LIVE but she is not saying anything YET..not sure what she is waiting for but she is certainly hogging the live airtime!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:11 AM
Gosh Allah, if you look anything as feminine as Moulitsas, I never ever want to see your face, no matter how good or ugly looking (your assessment) you are!
Yak, those lips…
“incompetent…incompetent…incompetent…incompetent”
“we’ll get demonized no matter what”…”we’re incompetent”…”we’re stupid”…
Olberman “the clearest message has come from you” - he just elevated Moulitsas to a God. A feminine male God! Good night!
Entelechy on August 9, 2006 at 12:11 AM
CyMc is finally getting around to her concession speech.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:11 AM
STILL stalling..asking all the people who are still in the room to come up before the cameras and stand with her. She is still just standing there taking up live television airtime saying absolutely nothing!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:13 AM
“There’s room for everybody on stage.” Imagine that! I guess she’s not taking any chances with an empty camera shot.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:13 AM
labwrs,
You are obviously typing too fast for me.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:14 AM
Now she is calling people by their individual names inviting them to come and stand with her before the cameras and saying nothing ..the commentators are blaming her redrawn district on her defeat.
UHOH..she has a “special presentation” that the “sound people” are to play..we are to “listen especially to the words”..this is unbelievable!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:15 AM
*LOL* @ RW-theoriginal..isnt this unreal? She has some nerve! Not yet conceding but just waiting for the “presentation”. Sheesh..chutzpah! *LOL*
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:16 AM
Maybe she’s trying to stall until the newspaper deadline passes too.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:17 AM
She has no class at all…you would think she would just concede and end it! Instead the anchors are rattling on and on and on while she stands there grinning. Now they are giving out a website U2.com to go and see the video presentation. WHAT A HAM!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:19 AM
ROTFL..the audio is “Dear Mr President”.
I cant believe they are giving her all this LIVE AIRTIME to play a song and stand there like she is fricking Mother Teresa!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:20 AM
This is hysterical!
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:22 AM
Now she is singing along to “Mr President you cant look me in the eye”..song is “Dear Mr President” by PINK! So she is singing along on LIVE television to a PINK song instead of making a concession speech and showing some class and consideration. This is ludicrous..very theatrical.
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:22 AM
RW-theoriginal…now she is SHOUTING the lyrics! Good grief! And they are letting her get away with this! How much does half an hour of LIVE television cost? Well, her Arab backers have plenty of money
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:24 AM
The more live time they give her, the better. If she is acting half the fool it sounds like from your posts, well, let her dig her self deeper.
She will probably angle for a re-election bid in 2008, or run for some other office. The way I see it, the more the cameras are on her, the more opportunities to catch her doing something typically Cynthia.
EFG on August 9, 2006 at 12:25 AM
Here we go..now she is pushing her FILM! No shame.
She is repeating the EXACT talking points she used in the debate against Johnson on Saturday and he proved her a LIAR about her “job’s program”.
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:25 AM
Great now we get the CyMc retrospective by CyMc. Maybe she should have tried the campaign speech a little sooner.
Oh and it’s the news media’s fault.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:26 AM
Maybe she thinks she’s Diana Ross.
speed647 on August 9, 2006 at 12:26 AM
The “news media didnt tell you about that because they wanted you to focus on my HAIR” *LOL*
NOW she is blaming the “PRESS THAT IS IN THIS ROOM TONITE” for her staffer who needed STITCHES..she keeps saying the “press in this room”…now she is taking on Daddy Bush..
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:27 AM
Let’s see ..Julian Bond, Bobby Kennedy, U2, Pink, Bush Sr, Bush Jr, homeless Veterans, BINGO!! HALIBURTON..and of course the Carlyle Group.
AH..Bush is allowing “more human consumption of TOXINS”..oh boy this is getting good! *LOL*
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:29 AM
So maybe Hank Johnson will be the only name she leaves out of this.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:30 AM
They won’t admit it but the Democrats are happy to have gotten rid of her. One less object of ridicule! Good thing they have plenty left…
Entelechy on August 9, 2006 at 12:30 AM
HERE WE GO!! It is…ready? THE JEWS! She said regarding Israel “Sir, No Sir” and the chant begins “Sir, No Sir”!
She stands with the families of the “hurt soldiers” and the families of the “THOUSANDS of HURT IRAQUIS”…
Now the “green card soldiers” are OUR fault because we failed to UPLIFT their existences in their countries so they are forced to come here to join the military!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:32 AM
*LOL* RW..so far no mention of Hank!
“THANK GOODNESS for the people of Argentina, Bolivia, etc etc who are standing up for the people..” sheesh
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:33 AM
She managed to get Cindy Sheehan in there. Hank who?
Oh Diebold…..
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:35 AM
I cant believe they are giving her this airtime! Now she is plugging Military families who oppose the war. Her “new friends”..AHA!! NOW she brings up Sheehan! There is “something special about these women”..who make “peaceful revolution possible”..and ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES ARE A THREAT TO OUR DEMOCRACY AND LET THE WORD GO OUT WE ARENT GOING TO TOLERATE ANY MORE STOLEN ELECTIONS..WE’RE WATCHING YOU AND WE WANT OUR LEADERS BACK OR WE WILL BECOME THOSE LEADERS..WE WANT OUR PARTY BACK..
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:35 AM
WHOOOO she wished the “new representative of the 4th” well..but NEVER mentioned him by name!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:36 AM
11Alive reporting that 911 called earlier this evening by the campaign ..the “stitches” were caused by a boommic hitting someone in the head outside the building.
11Alive has the ATTACK ON TAPE!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:38 AM
This is what she was referring to about the “press in this room” being responsible for an altercation. It was one too..a SCUFFLE!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:39 AM
This is like listening to a close baseball game on the radio when I was a kid. Can’t see a friggin’ thing, but I REALLY wanna know what happens next…
speed647 on August 9, 2006 at 12:41 AM
Cynthia’s supporters ATTACKED the MEDIA..pushing the photogs with their cameras to the GROUND! And they have it on tape!
After the first altercation, the “supporters” again outside charged the media and the political reporter called the Police. Two of the press people were “roughed up” and “unable to continue their jobs”
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:41 AM
Cynthia’s supporters tried to get into WXIA’s satellite truck and attack the news crew. This is the same news crew attacked earlier today..the WSB reporter Lori Geary reported on her blog what happened :”It’s been an interesting day. We were able to catch up with Congresswoman McKinney late this afternoon near Stonecrest Mall. She noticed me and called my photographer (Tony Light) and I over to her white Hummer. She rolled down her window and started talking when the photographer from WXIA tried to get in on our interview. McKinney’s security guards kept her away and caused quite a scuffle. McKinney told me she’d catch up with me at her next stop. We caught up with her again at the Wal-Mart on Highway 138 where she talked to us before greeting more supporters. She told me she doesn’t pay any attention to the polls; that she feels good about today and her main goal was to get all of her supporters to the precincts. She went on with her message of wanting to return to Washington to question Republican motives.”
THUGS RULE in the McKinney campaign!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:44 AM
labwrs,
They were just upset because it was such a close loss. I hope 11Alive pursues this, but it sure sounded like they were going to give her a pass.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:46 AM
So the bad blood was building all day. As McKinney arrived at her HQ, the boom mic bonked someone on the head and it was ON. Thank Goodness she is now out of power..hopefully forever altho it will be interesting to see what she does to make money. Think Jesse will give her a job? I PREDICT..Cynthia joins Cindy in Crawford by the weekend!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:47 AM
Maybe McKinneys supporters mistook the camera crew for Capital Hill Police - it could happen to anyone
But seriously, the poor and leaderless people of McKinney’s district could use a strong, encouraging role model, I hope her replacement sees his duty to his people and not get embroiled in the type of destructive self serving politics McKinney so willingly engaged in.
Their are ways to get your point across, trying to stage racial publicity stunts are not one of them.
EricPWJohnson on August 9, 2006 at 12:48 AM
labwrs et all from the Georgia region, thank you for your step-by-step reporting. It was neat.
C-Span didn’t show anything. Will probably have a tape to play later…politics is still local, as it should.
Entelechy on August 9, 2006 at 12:48 AM
RW-theoriginal:
It did, didnt it? But Matt Towery (commentator on 11Alive) was brutal to her I thought. The anchors certainly were as blunt as they could be as was the reporter on the scene but I thought Towery blistered her!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:48 AM
Quite welcome Entelechy!
I honestly thought she was just going to blow off her concession speech..but it was worth the wait! WHAT DRAMA!
Good job RW_theoriginal for catching things I didnt!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:50 AM
Well now all the excitement is over, time for bed. That workthing is demanding tomorrow…gotta practice my “fauxtography” *lol*
Nite all and THANKS AGAIN HOTAIR!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:51 AM
labwrs,
I switched late, but the reporter at the scene sounded like she wanted to go a few rounds as soon as the cameras turned off. It was Brenda Wood that sounded like “oh well, tough campaign.”
That explained CyMc starting off by saying the press had injured her mother and a campaign worker though. Preemptive strike.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:52 AM
Goodnight labwrs. That was certainly the strangest concession speech I’ve ever seen. Kind of like Al’s that was coming up in a few minutes, but didn’t happen for six weeks a few years back.
RW_theoriginal on August 9, 2006 at 12:54 AM
RW,
I agree..the on the scene woman sounded like she was trying to remain calm but her voice was shaking. She seemed angry and scared at the same time..cant WAIT to listen to Boortz tomorrow! That will be rich!
I agree with your assessment about the “preemptive strike”..good thinking! Have a great rest of the nite people!
labwrs on August 9, 2006 at 12:55 AM

Definitely worth staying up late for.
Thanks Ian.

It’s like watching a train wreck, Michael Moore in a cheerleader outfit dancing around for “Terror U”.
“Senseless! Immoral! Unwinnable! Retreat Team!”
“Gimme a “L”, Gimmie a “E”, Gimme a “A”, Gimme a “V”, Gimme a “E”;”
“What’s that spell? “LEAVE!!”

Next, maybe someone can rip those outrageous and utterly incomprehensible “Cynthia McKinney Parkway” signs from eastern I-285…what are those about anyway?
Will be on the lookout for an acquaintance with a Tivo bootleg of last night’s news coverage -
