One of the purposes of the libel suit, according to Wuterich’s lawyer, is to find out who Murtha’s source was. Did Kline just spill the beans? I googled around and the earliest references I can find to Kline’s remarks are articles in the L.A. Times and the Daily Telegraph dated May 27th. The Telegraph’s passage on Kline refers to a report in the New York Times, but a search on the NYT website for kline+haditha returns only two hits, one of them an article dated May 26th. Which, obviously, fails to prove that Kelly was briefing people before Hagee started to do so on the 24th. [...]

The problem lies in the fact, that in order for Democrats to appeal to their mo0onbat base, they have to lie and make crap up, just to stay in office. Son of a... Shades of Cigarman! Doesn't it just figure that this truth [not associated with the NY Times] comes out on a Friday [Thursday night if you want to be picky], THE slowest news day of the week? This is SO reminicent of the Slick Willie scandal reports. [Like anyone will hear about this anytime soon.] It would be so sweet to see Murtha trying to explain the new mess he is in on the Sunday talk shows, but I won't hold my breath waiting for that. How was that for questioning the timing? The good news is that another relavtion into the Persecution of those Heroes, by Murtha and his friends, has found the light of day. Time to push for their release, IMHO. As for the lawsuit, I would hope that a Congressman would be held to a higher standard, but seeing how Flipper just got off I would have to be delusional to think that justice could be done in this case even with the smell of conspiracy now clinging to the suit.

Why did Hagee wait so long to reveal this?

To sandbag Murtha. Why else?

Murtha is now exposed as a liar by an impecable witness, the Comandant. And he’s going to be under severe pressure to identify his *real* source (and that’s before discovery forces it out in the open anyway).

And, it’s quite likely that the “source” is going to decide that he is NOT going to take a fall for Murtha (for disclosing confidential information that violated the accused’s rights) and deny he told Murtha any such thing — and how is Murtha going to prove otherwise?

The SSGT in question is NOT a “public figure” and the high wall that protects disclosures about public figures will not be applicable. And discovery (for Murtha) is going to be a real bitch, I predict.

The stories in the news purporting to be “leaks” that a charge of murder is coming could very well be a ploy by the media to SUPPORT Murtha. We will have to wait and see if there is an charge and article 32 hearing, who is charged, and what the charge is.

Murtha is finished if the Marines (especially the SSGT in charge) are not charged with murder, because the defamation suit will stick to him like stink on you know what.

My 2 cents and my humble, ignorant, unimportant, opinion.

You may not recall this, but after the LAT claimed Hagee had briefed Murtha *before* Murtha opened his piehole on May 17, I wrote the LAT’s Readers Rep to ask her whether that was really true — because I couldn’t find any evidence that Hagee had briefed *anyone* before May 17.

I never posted the whole unsatisfying exchange, but the upshot was that she said that the report was accurate because Murtha had been briefed. I responded by noting that she hadn’t said Murtha had been briefed by *Hagee*. As I recall, she never answered the direct question, but maintained the article was accurate.

Looks like it wasn’t, after all.

Looks like they never checked with Hagee. Despite my specific question.

Looks like I’ll be posting that e-mail exchange after all.

And I have a few more questions . . .
