***update: E&P says no lawsuit***
Crazy Cynthia McKinney is going after the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Cynthia Tucker:
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) is suing an Atlanta newspaper for libel, after printing comments stemming from her run-in with police at the Capitol building.
J.M. Raffauf, her attorney, has filed charges against the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, editor Cynthia Tucker, and its publisher John Mellott following an article the paper ran on Sunday, July 30, 2006.
According to Raffauf, Tucker’s editorial column “was untrue, defamatory and libelous” when it read “’she (the Congresswoman) slugged him (the officer) with her cell phone.’ This false allegation is not supported by any witness or any other evidence. Additionally, Tucker is maliciously attempting to spin this into a felony by falsely alleging that she assaulted the officer with a deadly weapon.”
The suit alleges that other misstatements were made, including the statement that Congresswoman McKinney “suggested that President Bush had known in advance about the Sept. 11 attacks but did nothing to stop them so his friends could profit from the ensuing war,” and “She doesn’t have the power or prestige to pass a resolution in support of sweetened ice tea.”
Here’s the Tucker column that set McKinney off.

What’s that old saying ? “When your in a hole, stop digging”
However based on dear Cynthia’s level of intelligence, digging holes for a living might just be her real calling… or next job after November!

She cannot win a libel suit. See: NY Times v. Sullivan. 1964.
The motive for filing the suit is to engender sympathy for her for the run-off election. She is desperate.
Her attorney ought to be sanctioned for filing a frivolous law suit.
And she deserves to be kicked out of Congress for her behavior as a member.

McKinny is spiralling into Frisch territory.

remember that old saying?
“Toss a stone into a pack of dogs, The one yelping the loudest is the one you hit”
Seems like Tuckers throwing arm is pretty good.

A cell phone is a deadly weapon? What, the RF emissions will give the cop cancer in 20 years?

As we used to say in the Army; ” The only reason anyone would follow him is out of idle curosity.”
Lots of idle curosity out there and decreasing.

I hope the suit goes forward , maybe the cop can testify now.
She is one dumb broad.

A highly public figure suing a newspaper for libel? What a joke!!! Any reasonable judge will throw out the case before it comes to trial. Actually, I’d like to see this come to trial because all the loopiness of Cynthia would be exposed.

The runoff is August 8th? Is that right? These same statements have been printed how many times in how many media outlets and NOW she does this??? Sympathy is what she’s hoping for..
The monologue-ists do have their timing down, if nothing else.

The naive constituents of the 4th district in Georgia kept this ‘circus act’ in Congress for 12 years – they will make good in the runoff of Aug. 8 and send her packing.
From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, on last night’s debate with Hank Johnson:
All this because the capitol police didn’t charge her…for what reasons?

So, if the suit goes forward, can the attorney for Tucker request for the closed files of the Capitol cameras that filmed, supposedly so, the whole incident be made available?
Anyone? I can’t remember if there were discussions whether the whole incident was filmed by security camera(s).

Shades of Adam Clayton Powell. McKinney cannot lose with her base on this.
I like the first comment about digging a hole. I think she dug down and found her base.
I predict her base will rally.

Johnson 15 points ahead of McKinney – 7 days to go…

As much as I’d miss the comic relief of Cynthia’s sock monkey grin as she muggs for every camera, it would be nice for the people of Fulton county to actually have a representative in the House. On the other hand, they keep electing and re-electing CynMcK … maybe they neither want nor deserve any representation.
