<blockquote>"..a theory to explain why Iran believed it was in its interests to order Hezbollah to attack Israel at this point in time."

"Hezbollah’s offensive is a counter-attack to the US-led drive to democratize the Middle East."</blockquote>

Um, the iranian leader was elected. You know, one man, one vote. Democracy, what what!

It seems to me the main question is how much further down the road can we kick this can. If the Israelis don't finish this job, the US will eventually get sucked in even further down the Middle Eastern rathole.

It’s time to take a ruler and a map then draw a line 20 miles north of the Lebanon-Israel border.
Provide whatever support is needed to completely evacuate this area.
Then call Bashar Al-Assad and say come to the table or life gets very uncomfortable. No cajones=defeat. Literaly give him an offer he can’t refuse.
Don’t believe me, Israel tried withdrawal appeasment and Arabs have only been emboldened.
In tribal-honor driven societies only complete defeat works.

bbz123,

That depends on the outcome of the next two elections, '06 & '08. I believe it will come down to one issue, terrorism. Those on the left will call it warmongering. I call it reality.

There will come a time when we will be compelled to send out the big bombers and level Iran,North Korea and possible Lebanon.I do not hope that we do it,but we will have little choice if we are to survive as a civilization.
