Sorry took me forever to comment. I just saw this and I'm new here.
Forget the debate. Have you met my Mother? If The Rock, Brad Pitt and Jackie Chan showed up at her door and told her she had to wear a burka at all times...well, they'd be unconscience and nursing several broken bones in a very short time.
And that's her being nice, and because she doesn't own a gun.
It may be just because I grew up in da South. But American women don't put up with that kinda stuff.
Shira law folks..Ya wanna tell Queen Latifa she's gotta wear a burka? Good luck with that.
I'm wary and watchful, but not worried. That kind of oppressive culture can have no permanent place in America. It will fail, just a matter of time.
Most Americans still are of the 'What?!? You better hope you didn't say what I think you just said!' type of mentality.
We don't tolerate exclusionism in these parts.
We also don't tolerate oppression of women.
If a woman doesn't smack you down 1st, there are a whole lotta guys waiting in line to do that job.

Our culture loves and protects women. Mostly because we know what happens when we(men) tell the Ladies what to do and how to behave and how to dress.
That is:Nothing good.
Tell Michelle Malkin or me mom or me sis how they should live their lives..you won't be happy with the answer, trust me Shira Law guys.

[...] From the rally, here’s a picture of one David Rolde, an ultra-leftist and member of the Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts. Why in the hell are American leftists in love with fascists and the most oppressive, misogynistic demons on the planet? Also, note that there were many uncovered women in attendance. When are these hypocrites going to put their money where their mouths are and start wearing their damned burkas? [...]

Aren't the burkas used to keep the Islamic guys in check, not giving them any "lust triggers" so that they do not sin?
Good luck with that, Islamic guys. It puts the responsibility on the women not to incite, and takes the responsibility away from the men. If a man rapes, he can blame the woman. That's makes for one screwed up society.

5) Hey ….. this video at the end here is much, much better. Now make THIS Muslim mink eat some spaghetti on camera and we’ve got a real marketable product.

Prof. Blather, that "mink" is Osama Bin Laden's niece.

"absolutely dreadful"

Entagor, where is Kamals place?
I keep a tire repair kit and a compressor in my car. Easy to fix a nail hole and I would have blocked the road to his garage while I did it.

tbolick, I agree there is a lot of room for abuse in their system. I have been in several Arab countries for short times - oil field. With the very few people I have known the family seems to be very important and seems to be stable.

everyone has an opinion, with most of the opinions based on nothing.

It is always interesting to hear from someone who actually has BEEN there or SEEN that, if you know what I mean.

I have lived many years now in high muslim population areas of greater Detroit.

At the first location near the mosque on Dix most women wore headscarves and long gowns. I made the mistake of blurting a Hebrew greeting to a group of them instead of arabic. It was not pretty. They absolutely did not mingle. Zilch. They were not assimilating but seemed more clannish than dangerous.

Then I lived some years in Dearborn with the highest muslim population in the US. You can live off Warren avenue and never need English. Most women covered their heads but not faces. There was a double standard in the way the men treated non muslim women (a lot of detached contempt) and muslim women (studious avoidance and no eye contact). Some crossovers dressed western and Dearborn has its share of honor killings. The public school gave privileges to muslims, who were allowed to have Korans while non muslims were not allowed Bibles in school. I watched a school cable program where a bilingual muslim class-aide with a headscarf interviewed female muslim students, mostly in English, but interjected arabic muslim religious phrases like 'inshallah' while the equivalent Christian phrases are not welcome in the same school system.

There was often a sense that they were offended by us.

In the third city where I now live there has been a sea change. A large percentage of the younger women I see have radicalized. The majority come to shop in long black robes and a high percentage of them are now covering their faces with black fabric except for an eye slit. The attitude of these ladies is similar to the 'hateful chatter behind the Veil' link above. Bump into one and they are contaminated. Do not touch their kids. They act as if you are a toxic obstacle.

This is very recent. Everyone notices it. It is worrying. I think how easy it would be to bring in a weapon, a bomb or some poison under those robes.

Missing are the normal body language expressing friendship and goodwill you get when there is language difference.

I pulled into a tire repair place with a flat yesterday and 'Larry' turned out to be 'Kamal' who studiously ignored me until I gave up, and drove two more miles to a (non-muslim) place that would wait on me.

Something ain't melting in the melting pot.

The signs are not good here.

roydee - I think your probable life of a burka girl is way off. Often in that culture, women are considered property and can be abused or discarded at will.

Also...

This just in. In order to court the Muslim vote, Hillary will now start wearing a Burka at all times in public. This is also expected to raise her poll numbers among everyone else as well.

Can Time hold its own in an environment in which broadcasting withering criticism of it is so easy? I hope not.

EFG:

Fascinating input and insights. One of the worst things about the Internet is that everyone has an opinion, with most of the opinions based on nothing.

It is always interesting to hear from someone who actually has BEEN there or SEEN that, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the info.

This vent shows the extremes of modesty and its opposite - during the time of youth.

Lets consider the probable life of the burka girl. She wears that thing in public, not in private. She has no voice in politics, in public. She is expected to raise a family of several children and stay at home. She probably will not experience several pre-marital significant encounters; or the depression of rejection when a mate leaves her for someone more exciting; or the depression of finding she is pregnant and single; or the guilt of an abortion. Her husband will probably stay with her and provide for her and their children even after the years steal her youth and beauty.

No, I am not promoting Islam or burkas. But do not be surprised that the fathers and mothers of that culture do not want their daughters to experience the “freedom” and immorality as they see it portrayed in our movies.

How doing a "Twilight Zone" clip with the role reversal of women taking the role of men while men suddenly find themselves as women and must wear burkas. I wonder how that works while using the male urinals?

I think they should also have to wear gloves. Come on, we can still see their knuckles.
Or what if it was like the magician's trick with the different colored handkerchiefs all tied together. You rip off one burka, only to find 100 more.

Hmmm, actually you might be onto something with the whole plain white burka thing.

This Friday night at Hooters I'm sponsoring a wet burka contest. The event will be BYOB (bring your own burka). The winner will receive a free one month's supply of Sheehan-approved ice cream and smoothies, suitable for protest fasting!
