The latest, as of right now: Israel intensified its attacks against Lebanon on Thursday, blasting Beirut’s international airport and the southern part of the country in its heaviest air campaign against its neighbor in 24 years. Nearly three dozen civilians were killed, officials said. The strikes on the airport, which damaged three runways, came hours before Israel also imposed a naval blockade on Lebanon to cut off supply routes to Lebanese militants. … On Thursday, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said the offensive in Lebanon has far-reaching objectives, including pushing Hezbollah militants away from the Israeli border and eventually sidelining the group altogether. “We must neutralize the hostile terrorist infrastructure that exists in Lebanon,” he said. Senior Israeli military officials said Israel warned the Lebanese government that it plans to strike offices and homes of Hezbollah leaders in the southern suburbs of Beirut. All I can say about it right now is may G-d bless Israel and make this only be a six-day war. No Iran. No leaking into Iraq. And so much for disengagement bringing peace (I told ya so). This whole thing stinks of divine inspiration. I think that nutcase Ahmadenijad has convinced himself that Allah (the fake one, not the Pundit) is going to give victory to the faithful.

I hope Israel hands him his ass on a platter. Israel’s lead in military technology must surely have widened in the 39 years since the Six Days’ War. The U.S. has already showed that the faithful fold up in any direct confrontation with Western military training, tactics, and technology. If the U.S. can take and hold Afghanistan and Iraq, surely Israel can at least incapacitate Lebanon and Syria, and thereby give Iran’s Ahmadenijad a humiliating spanking.
