It happened despite the left calling him a madman for even attempting to take on the Russians in an arms race, despite being accused of breaking the bank of the US and taxing our great-great-grandchildren, and it happened entirely due to Reagans belief that the people of the US and the free market systems here could outlast the choke-hold that communism places on its people and economy.

In fact, I don’t think I know anyone not a member of the far kook left that believes for a minute that ol’ Gorby tore that wall (or curtain) down out of the kindness of his heart, but simply because he had no other choice to, they had lost.
