Video: Paul Hackett slams refusenik lieutenant Ehren Watada

The same Paul Hackett who once called Bush a “son of a bitch.” The same Paul Hackett who ran for Congress as a nutroots hero and narrowly lost. The same Paul Hackett whom Kos once endorsed for Senate and then abandoned a few days later — coincidentally, right after Hackett’s primary opponent, Sherrod Brown, hired Jerome Armstrong as a consultant. The same Paul Hackett who’s now defending one of the Marines accused of murder in Haditha.
Paul Hackett: interesting guy.
Haditha actually makes a cameo towards the end here when Watada’s lousy father alleges that not only was there a massacre but it was being carried out according to orders. Hackett gives him both barrels.
By the way, when do they fire Matthews and replace him with O’Donnell?
Update: I changed the headline from “peacenik” to “refusenik.” Hackett’s a peacenik himself so I thought it gave a false impression.

Wow. It’s nice to know that there are some lines that perhaps even a Democrat candidate won’t cross. Personally, I can’t believe that Mr. Hackett was as restrained and calm as he was.
Lt. Watada obviously had decided this course long ago; he had a plan from the go. He joined AFTER we invaded Iraq; ergo he knew he would see combat. If there are orders from up high to kill civilians and damn the rest, then Lt. Watada had an OBLIGATION as an officer to bring proof of such things to his chain. He waited until he was supposed to be sent to Iraq again and made this grandstanding statement that there are atrocities there and has no concrete proof, just a lot of vague stories and claims.
This is so reminiscent of John Kerry it’s chilling; prediction- Lt. Watada will run for political office in a decade or two. You heard it from me first.

That says it all right there. All Watada Sr.’s political rhetoric cannot obscure the fact that his son has NO honor.

Wait wait wait…you mean if I sign a contact with the Military, that there is a chance that I might go to War?? I thought it was just a free ride to college or a paycheck. Hackett gives me hope for Democrats (very very few Democrats)
Linlithfow…I agree…I’ll be your witness.
StoutRepublican on July 7, 2006 at 10:06 PM
The Watada Daddy says their was a massacre in Haditha. Since he wasn’t there he must have gleaned his evidence from the media reports of it, and from other sources. Ergo, if Murtha, Kos and the DU say it’s true, then it must be so.
Bellicose Muse on July 7, 2006 at 11:30 PM
I can’t believe the Dems were so stupid as to stab Hackett in the back like they did…
…wait…
…yes… I CAN believe they were stupid enough to do that! :-D

Justice will be done. I’ve been a witness at a Captain’s Mast. The UCMJ is tough, and it clearly spells out what is considered criminal. Watada may spend years in prison-if that makes him a martyr for the Left, so be it.

I have a question.
Even though I served in the Army National Guard, I’m not sure about this:
If the LT is found guilty, will he be considered a felon? I mean, the charges are serious, and probably there’s a cell in Leavenworth waiting for him, but how do they reflect in the civilian society?
For some reason, I thought a felon can’t serve federal elective office.
Of course, I could be very wrong.
Thanks

OUCH!!!!
That’s going to leave a mark!
Watada’s father should have known better than to bring a knife to a gunfight. Even though I have a very strong feeling that Dad is a political hack for both Inoyue and Akaka. He paid his quarter and took his chances. Then got thoroughly trounced for his meager efforts.
While Mr. Watada’s kid (I cannot and will not call him Lieutenant) will surely be stripped of rank, pay and privileges while serving time at Leavenworth. I have no pity for little twit.
Though it is amusing to see the Left’s Grand Scheme to create an Anti-War Poster Boy blow up in their faces!
Jack.

Good god……Surrounded by wimps, every time I turn on the TV.
Here’s an idea:
Give me the weapons & equipment I ask for & plop me right smack-dab in the middle of the Sunni Triangle.
Come back a week later for extraction.
PROBLEM SOLVED!
:/

Hackett is (was) good on illegal immigration, too:
(brief googling will provide a sample of the predictable reaction from Hackett’s erstwhile admirers.)

And I think there needs to be a show starring O’Donnell, Kirsten Powers, Flavia Colgan, Ana Marie Cox…hell, throw that unemployed Rocketboom chick in there…then some more tasteful lighting…music… I’m just saying, I need to get more liberal viewpoint into my TV viewing, that’s all. And I think they’d be the right hosts for it. That’s all I’m saying.
Alex K on July 8, 2006 at 2:36 AM
I hope that post is your attempt at being sarcastic & funny. Otherwise, I’d like to carefully point out the lack of liberal (defeatist) viewpoints in the various forms of media.
Print Media (NY & LA Times for starters as is the majority of print media including mags (or rags) like Rollingstone Mag which delve into politics and national security issues (in an effort to aid the sagging music sales of liberal(traitor) celebs such as the Dixie Chicks after they put their collective foot in their mouths.
Talk Radio (aside from NPR) the only thing the left has going on the air is AirAmerica radio…which should be classified as a failed experiment for the MoveOn.Org crowd (Hyped up ratings…when in reality they are cellardwellers, extremely limited distribution…no one is jumping to buy their programing and they in fact have to pay stations several million dollars to carry them..not exactly SOP in the talk radio business. An interesting side note is Armed Forces Network has been pressured to increase their programing of NPR (which the troops despise since its on most of the day) and to include AirAmerica, same deal with the troops hating it for dif reasons, funny thing is the troops keep requesting more of Rush, Sean, Laura Ingram, etc.
Television News/Cable News, gee aside from the old big 3 network news channels, theres CNN, MSNBC, and occasionaly C-Span. So much for a lack of liberal viewpoint.
Now, to the topic at hand, the Watada issue is nothing more than an anti-war setup. 1) Lt. Watada joined after Operation Iraqi Freedom began. 2) He never applied for CO status prior to his unit being notified of its deployment. 3) He volunteered for duty with the Sriyker Brigade (who would have thought an active duty combat arms brigade might be deployed…go figure. I am always amazed at the lengths the anti-war/anti-US crowd is willing to go to hurt this nation, the ongoing operations in Iraq and Afghan and the greater GWOT. By excusing his statements while he currently was in uniform sets a dangerous precident down the road which quite possibly lead to something akin to a Banana Republic wherein the military is the true power of the land and the civil leadership is selected(if they do as told) and are subservient to the military which is directly opposite of what we have in America where the military is subservient to the civil leadership. But then considering the makeup of most dictatorships who the left supports (Socialist, Communist, Marxist – 3 faces of the same deadly coin) a military dictatorship in America is exactly what they very well might want. As to Hackett, I have never been a big fan of his mostly for his heated statements in the past on a variety of issues, however, he was dead on debating Lt. Watada’s father (who most likely assisted in if not instigated his sons entry into the military with false intent)especially when Haditha was brought up (so much for being presumed innocent until proven guilty). Gotta give Hackett credit where credit is due.
Terlizzi999 on July 8, 2006 at 4:16 AM
Hackett really is a conundrum, isn’t he? The only theory I can can come up with is that he loves the spotlight, and so chases the stories that put him on TV. Not that that’s evil for a wannabe pol, mind you. But his Murtha-like stance on immediate withdrawl means he’ll never get my vote, whatever his position on Haditha or Watada.
Kadnine on July 8, 2006 at 4:29 AM
Hackett is a hack.
doingwhatican on July 8, 2006 at 8:42 AM
Yikes, watching that makes me glad I don’t live in Hawaii anymore. I saw that sort of genial moonbatism all the time.
Slublog on July 8, 2006 at 9:12 AM
Watada is a chip off his fathers mushy block. All that Hackett said was true!…But I’m not a Hackett fan at all.
He is a spotlight chaser as someone said.
Fandango on July 8, 2006 at 9:33 AM
Hmmm… this is actualy interesting for another reason…
Is Hackett so disgusted with the left that hes willing to go against the serious Leftys?? Is he… perhaps… growing up?
Romeo13 on July 8, 2006 at 10:54 AM
Norah and here “show” are becoming a regular around here on hot air. Could this be the end of that twit Matthews. Since MSNBC has new management we could hope couldn’t we?

Hey everyone!
just got back from my daily surf over at DU. They are HATING Hackett right about now. Not many posters over there are defending him and those that are, are just saying that he’s “doing his job” as a criminal defense attorney. It’s pretty funny to read. made my day!! :)
pullingmyhairout on July 8, 2006 at 1:56 PM
BatPerez, you may be right; although with felons *IN PRISON* supposedly being recruited by Dems, it would not surprise me!
Depending on what he’s convicted of, I think you might be right- that he won’t be able to serve in public office, own a gun, vote, etc etc.
The DU are SOOOOO funny. The chicken wire WTC mock up still has me giggling. That people with such little sense can speak with such authority…
The comment about how a hydrocarbon fire can’t weaken steel easily was tops; as my husband pointed out, charcoal and some bellows can certainly weaken steel enough for a blacksmith! Never mind JP4, plastic, fibre, paper, etc. Those people are just SO stupid!
linlithgow on July 8, 2006 at 2:06 PM
the funny thing about the chicken wire “experiment” is that the posters at DU took it so SERIOUSLY!!!!
pullingmyhairout on July 8, 2006 at 2:09 PM
Unfortunately, no matter how much many of us love and admire President Bush, this type of stuff is always excused. Since when has any person ever been brought up short if an activist or pol, or brought up on charges of insubordination if a soldier for spouting anti-war and anti-Bush tripe? Never, that’s when. I think President Bush is well meaning and does not want to demonize his opponents, but he is in office to protect us! If he must blast a treasonous piece of work like Sheehan or slap down the Murthaf*&^%r then he must do it! Letting them spout lies and hatred helps no one nor our country. All those generals and diplomats who say the war plans are illegal or immoral must be removed and punished. Christian turning the other cheek is fine for personal insults and attacks, but President Bush should also remember “Onward Christian Soldiers” and do his duty to defend the nation from the evildoers within.
Sadly, nothing much I fear will happen to Watada. He’ll probably be allowed to resign his commission and then he’ll appear all over the country to spread anti-war lies and be feted by the America haters. Maybe he’ll lose a months pay, his rank and his pension and VA benefits, but he won’t care because he planned from the beginning to disobey. The losses will mean nothing to him as he can make a career of being an anti-war crusader.
Expect to hear about him from now until the day he dies. The leftists will make sure of it.

Hackett just kissed away any future he might have had in the Democrat Party. Daily Kos KOmmies have been slamming him as well as the Democrat Underground DUmmies.
