How the Dems could have been so blind as to not nominate Lieb as their Presidential frontrunner for 2003 is lost to me.

I have always like Lieberman for quite some time, and yes I’m a die hard republican (since age 13 when I watched footage of the Marine Barracks bombing in Beruit, long story so never mind on that).

I disagree with Lieb on many issues, mostly the 90% voting in lockstep with the party of defeatism, the democrats. But I think everyone can agree he has taken the correct position numerous times when it comes to national security and military matters, most unlike the general makeup of his party since the mid-50’s. Even when he disagrees with an issue or politician, it’s unheard of for him to be vindictive or nasty in his remarks (another rarity in his party) and thats something we could use more of in DC. The question was put forth whether Joe could be the new Zell, sad to say as much as I respect him for his intellegence, experience and his positions on national security/Iraq, Joe is sometime bit too nice where as Zell has that uncanny ability to lay bear the unvarnished truth (A la “The Spitball” line from the RNC convention )on camera that many would love to say in public but hesitate out of fear of the liberal PC police.

As to the election race, talk about tough choices for repubs, vote for the party’s nomination (nat too familiar with that person) or throw their full support (a move that would drive the extreme left absolutely nuts and might be more rewardable for repubs) Joe’s way, especially if he runs as an Indi. Conservative voters need to ask themselves can they be happy with a half a victory with Lieb winning re-election (which is a surer bet) or try to go for it all by trying to elect a repub in his seat, regardless its ultimately up to the voters to decide their choice, not the MoveOn.org wing (can one still call a whole policical party a wing) of the Dem party.

Any bets on how low the left will sink to try and unseat Lieb?

I just watched this video, and the only thing I could say for the Senator is that he has common sense when dealing with Iraq. Because when at the beginning he starts saying who he has received endorsements from, that turns me off. Of course, I don’t live in CT so I can’t vote there, but I wouldn’t vote for the Senator either as a Democrat or as an Independent, because even if he would be a Democratic “maverick” for some things, he would still vote Democratic in most of the programatic issues. And those are the ones that keep me in the Republican party, even when I have disagreements with some of my Congressmen and Senators.
He’s right on one issue, one issue only.
But it is still a reflexion of the lack of freedom the libs practice, while at the same time saying they’re the compassionate and open minded ones.

Like Moc23 said, anything that puts a thumb in the eye of the whackjob left — Mentos Nutroots is good fun, but it’s still one liberal punching another.

Joe Lieberman is a good man and a serious Senator, and he is a liberal Democrat. But he can be counted on to do the right thing, and not just the partisan thing, when America needs him to. And that’s worthy of support, I think.

Credit where due: Lieberman spoke his mind, mentioning that there have been improvements in Iraq. And is being attacked by his own party in an attempt to silence him? If the Dems stifle dissent in their own party, who would trust them with power over the country? Sounds like the Clinton era all over again. Read Gary Aldrich’s book “Unlimited Access” for a behind the scenes look at the Clinton White House.
I respect Lieberman for speaking the truth about Iraq. He’s ahead of the rest of his party, who are due to discover that it was a good war in…oh, about two years and six months. As soon as President Bush leaves the White House. Until then the Democrats can back in the glory of being oracles who will claim to have won the War against the Bush Administration as troops begin to return home. Like it wouldn’t have happened without their nipping at Bush’s heels for the last three years. What’s the opposite of a moral victory?

I pretty much hate concession:) Being from the midwest — I assume all Republicans should be as determined and spirited as we are. I guess I also prefer someone on the left or right — those fence riders … well … let’s just say you never know where they fall until it’s too late.

But I still think that Lamont helps the DemonRat true colors shine through.

wytammic, the Republicans have pretty much conceded the seat; the GOP would likely finish third in a split. If Joe is defeated in the primary and then runs as an independent, expect a lot of 'Republicans' (the RINOs that pass for them up in that neck of the woods) to vote for Joe. As an independent, he would likely vote more as a Republican on procedural issues. And, while certainly not a conservative, Joe is better than supposedly GOPer Chafee on most key issues (primarily WOT and national defense).

Republicans should be cheering for Lamont — I mean, a split ticket would give the Republican that Senate seat. Lieberman has a much more likable personality — but come on — he is still extremely left, it’s just more difficult to notice when he stands next to that Lamont freak. I’m for Lamont — he demonstrates quite clearly the stupidity of the DemonRat party.
