I went to grad school with tons of Asians. However, each year there would only be one North Korean added to the class.

Even Communist China would send over some 20 to 30 for my department alone. This stat is telling, I'm sure.

We can hope that Dictators are a dying breed. Whether it's Chavez in Venezuela, Kim Jong Ill in North Korea, Castro in Cuba, whatever:the world is getting smaller and better connected, and as populations hear about the freedoms available in other countries, dictators will no longer be able to keep them in chains of ignorance. It's no wonder that the North Korean dictator keeps an iron fist on the media in his country-if people knew what was happening there, and if the North Koreans better knew the outside world,Kim Jong Ill would have been overthrown years ago. People love Freedom. Look for Korea to be reunited as a free country someday, just has happened with Germany. This current missle-rattling may be the undoing of his regime by focusing the world's attention on North Korea.

[...] In addition to numerous radio and TV reports I’ve seen, check out Michelle Malkin’s latest “Hot Air” vlog. Ted Turner’s apologia for Kim Jong Il features prominently. Malkin’s use of videotape that North Korean dissidents risked their lives to get is especially gratifying. One small disagreement: it would not be completely accurate to suggest that liberals have no understanding of this issue. A few have been stalwarts from the beginning of this new and growing movement. On the other hand, Nick Kristof’s ambivalence is typical of many: there must be something wrong about a movement that attracts so many evangelical Christians. For some, it follows that anyone they oppose couldn’t be all bad. [...]

Consider:
The largest Pentacostal Church in the world is in S. Korea.
The most internet connected nation in the world is S. Korea.
One of the most richest nations in the Asia is S. Korea.
North Korea is the most godless, isolated, and starving nation in the world.
Same people, same language, same customs and same heritage but different systems of government.
We need to finish the Korean War 1950-?

"Dead Man's Chest" .... Ha! Yeah ... did you see him puffing a cigarette? His heart attack is due in 5 ... 4 ... 3...

That guy just cracked me up. I'm actually wondering now if he was doing a parody of a liberal. Because if he was for real ... well, then he's the funniest thing ever.

Best line of his rant: "I don't know why we LET him talk for hours a day ..."

Um, maybe its the First Amendment? Sheesh. Why don't any liberals believe in liberal ideas any more? No free speech. Racism as policy. Avoid all intellectual diversity. Liberalism today has a startling resemblence to Stalinism.

See how I threw that in there to make this comment almost on topic?

Professor Blather, what's ironic is the subtitle of the ad on "Pirats of the Caribbean", above the video you sent (with the fat leftie). It reads "Dead Man's Chest" :)

JOE:

If you thought that was funny ... did you see THIS one linked on the same page?

If ever wondered what blogging liberals and DU posters were REALLY like ... well, here you go. Do not - I repeat, do not - be drinking anything when the tape starts. One look and you'll spit up all over your keyboard.

I give you .... a classic prototype liberal:

Blather, the Tae bo dong missile was just an exercise.

That's pretty funny.

If Kim Jong Il’s missiles are just big dongs, what does that say about our desire to intercept them with our, um, missiles? Is America gay?

Also funny. Strangely homo-erotic, but funny.

Sure Kim’s projectiles exploded prematurely, but our missiles used to be called Minutemen…

And that was funniest of all. Who went and replaced Vanya with someone with wit and intelligence? Next BetterOffBlue will show up and say something relevant and insightful.

By the way, Vanya .... we also had MX-1's and Titan's. Now them's some manly missiles.

As for your question - what do we do with our penis-envy-having friend? Well ... his fate seems obvious, doesn't it?

Sooner or later, he's going to have a meeting with some American made munitions. Probably sooner rather than later.

The only real question is how soon - and whether liberals will insist that we suffer casualties before doing what will have to be done.

Alternatively, we could let him live a long, healthy life, and use people like Ted Turner and Cindy Sheehan as mockeries of liberalism when the sing his praises ...? I like that one, too.

But I wouldn't take a large wager on Lil' Kim still breathing a decade from now. One way or another.

To be semi-serious for half a second: that regime is unsupportable. No totalitarian regime can remain in power long. When the people get hungry enough - or he gets dangerous enough - he'll be done.

It's really too bad we can't deal with it now. We should. A lot of lives would be saved. But politics won't let it happen.

Best Vent yet. That's one for the highlight reel. Important subject, the right tone, and interesting footage I'd never seen before.

Blather, the Tae bo dong missile was just an exercise.

If Kim Jong Il's missiles are just big dongs, what does that say about our desire to intercept them with our, um, missiles? Is America gay?

Sure Kim's projectiles exploded prematurely, but our missiles used to be called Minutemen...

Scott G, N. Korea is very good at making sure westerners see only what they want, and they do keep certain areas in pristine condition, just for media consumption. Having see the "Freedom" village at the DMZ (from a mile away, the closest you can get without drawing fire) they try and make it seem like a paradise...till you peel away the thin layer of polish and expose the rot under. I do feel sorry for the citizens of that realm, they live in a land Orwell would be shocked at.

Professor Blather, after the election (I meant election and not erection :), the lady changed her name back to Theresa Heinz. She is no longer hyphenated.

For a long time I've theorized that ultimately the hostility and jealousy of much of the world boils down to a bad case of penis envy.

It seems so obvious. The Europeans prance around soccer fields hugging each other maniacally and crying when the man in tight shorts shows them a shiny colored card. In the Middle East, they keep their women in burlap bags and kill over cartoons.

It's all Freudian. It all comes down to sex. I'm sure of it.

And, well ... we're just, um, packing a lot more power under the hood than the rest of these sissies, if you catch my drift.

In the end, it's all penile. Ask Bob Dole.

Did anyone actually NOT notice the fact that Kim Jong Needs-a-chill-pill's short range rocket (emphasis on short) is called the "No Dong?"

No dong? Hmmm. Not coincidental, my friends.

Clearly my penis envy theory has some validity.

For more on Kim Jong's penile issues (or lack thereof), here's some additional information on the dongless missile program:

http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/dprk/facility/nodong.htm

You would have thought they'd have named the longer range "Taepodong-2" missile something more ... robust? Virile? But then I realized that "taepo" is obviously the Korean word for robust, virile, and very long.

By the way, they may try to launch another longdong missile. I heard they're consulting with Rush Limbaugh on their, um, launch problems.

On a more serious note ... it's worth remembering that every mad dictator in history has had his own nodong issues. Ask Eva Braun.

Or Theresa Heinz-Kerry. We dodged a bullet on that one. A very small bullet.

To summarize: Tommy Lee will almost certainly be solely responsible for the inevitable launch of North Korean longdong missiles at L.A. Because Kim Illin' (like Osama, John Kerry, and Cindy Sheehan) is simply obsessed with the injustice of our enormity. If you know what I mean. No one ever listens to Freud until its too late.

I'll close by giggling and saying once more: "no dong."

That's funny. Right, Beavis?
