It boggles the mind how out-of-touch with reality Ted Turner actually is. Kim Jong-Il looks like anybody else he’s met, so he can’t be a ruthless dictator?

What a putz!

Thanks for the vent HotAir!

dalewalt on July 6, 2006 at 9:31 AM

Great Vent!
We really need to keep these deplorable conditions in the spotlight.
I can’t believe Halfbright gave them nuke technology and now says this is all Bush’s fault.
After that giant train blast last year that we couldn’t find anything out about, I started trying to learn about North Korea. I couldn’t beleive they could shut down the media so effectively. After some digging, and scenes like those shown in the Vent, I finally understand.
I really don’t think liberals can get their heads around just how bad it is there- after all, here they can control the government using the media.

NTWR on July 6, 2006 at 9:34 AM

Turner is divorced now, Mad Alldim is available I think. Can we get them together? Just imagine the quotes.

wcarr on July 6, 2006 at 10:11 AM

I was flabbergasted by that clip with Ted Turner, he sounded like a complete moron. It seemed more like a skit on SNL than a legitimate interview… just goes to show, money can’t buy you smart

angry_mike on July 6, 2006 at 10:19 AM

wcarr- I needed that laugh!

NTWR on July 6, 2006 at 10:21 AM

Nicely said. It amazes me that Ted Turner could get so far in business and say without any sense of shame or irony, that he could look at Kim Jong Il as any other person, rather than one of the most brutal and bizarre despots in the world. Listening to Laura Ingraham this morning, she played a Nora O’Donnell interview with Cindy Sheehan where Dame Cindy managed to sound even more stupid than Ted Turner did in the clip above. She’s a big fan of Hugo chavez. It never ceases to amaze me the disgusting people that the left manages to wrap their arms around. Kim Jong Il, Tookie Williams, Cameron Diaz (just kidding..well, not really but at least she never killed anyone). I think the lefties can look at places like Cuba, or North Korea, and they don’t see anything wrong with some people being locked up or brutalized (ie, people who disagree with them)Not a nice thing to say, but after reading Michelle’s book, Unhinged, there were things she reported in there that happened after the election that I hadn’t heard about, like the poor women whose car was rammed by some angry lefty (while she had her child in the car no less)Listen to the hateful, dehumanizing things Howard Dean says, completely off the cuff. All that man needs is a set of pink combat fatigues and a bullwhip and he’s ready to run his own gulag. But I digress. At any rate, it’s good to be back; I went to Hamburg for a week to live the life of a German Soccer Hooligan. No, actually I just went for a funeral and happened to be staying in the same hotel at the Argentina team. Cheers all.

austinnelly on July 6, 2006 at 10:27 AM

in the pictures they showed on CNN he didn’t look so bad…they were thin and riding bicycles… OMG!!!!! And Ted Turner started a media empire??

On a different note, WHERE is amnesty international? where is the red cross? where are all the organizations screaming “human rights abuses?” Where is Hollywood? Where is the NYT? It’s amazing to me that they can even THINK that gitmo abuses the rights of terrorists and not see that NK is the biggest human rights violator on earth. What gives?

pullingmyhairout on July 6, 2006 at 10:29 AM

Psssst. Hey. Ted. Ted Turner. Yeah, you.

Listen, Sparky – got a newsflash for you. When CNN’s Aaron Brown labels your analysis “the stupidest ever” and liberal Wolf Blitzer openly suggests that you’re a raving, barking loon … you just might want to consider putting a sock in that gaping hole under your nose.

Just some friendly advice, Ted. On the plus side, you now broke the American land speed record for reaching “stuck on stupid” in under 3.5 seconds. Congrats, Skippy.

Professor Blather on July 6, 2006 at 10:36 AM

You know the song ding dong the witch is dead?
It should say ding dong Kim Jong is gone..
Well it’s time to take the kid gloves off .
Blow that little shit and his castle to kingdom HELL…
Stop playing around with the foolish lefties and the moron Ted Turner and the freaks who hate America and finish what our Fore Fathers would have done Enter and die.

pullingmyhairout, you posed the great questions – remember though, they call themselves ‘progressive’.

Professor Blather, I’m so glad you’re back.

I wanted to provide good quotes from the following article, but it is worth skimming in its entirety:

Entelechy on July 6, 2006 at 11:33 AM

Can someone fix the ipod link? There’s no file at that address.

shirgall on July 6, 2006 at 11:36 AM

Even on subjects that don’t particularly interest me, the Vent is always entertaining.

North Kroea is an example of what happens when you don’t finish a war. No doubt, the liberal brains in this Country would like to just pay them to play nice and like us. The sad fact is that liberalism is the ruination of about everything it comes in contact with, just like Islam. But until both are viewed by sane people as the enemy and threat they truly are, nothing will change.

NRA4Freedom on July 6, 2006 at 11:47 AM

Well done Michelle
North Korea is one of the best examples of pure evil in the world today and yet few people say anything about it. Ironically the people i’ve met who are most supportive of NK are South Koreans, who thnk we’re exaggerating just how bad Menta-Li-Ill is.

Defector01 on July 6, 2006 at 11:55 AM

Ted Turner’s been a dolt for years…this is further proof.

What’s happening in North Korea is both disgusting and heartbreaking.

And as long as the missles land safely in the Sea of Japan, the libs will continue to ignore it.

Keep beating the drum Michelle.

Malpaso on July 6, 2006 at 12:06 PM

Bryan on July 6, 2006 at 12:12 PM

Liberals and the MSM are trying to blame Bush for this launch such as CNN having a former member of the Clinton Administration who played a role in the first negotiations with North Korea bashing the Bush Administration’s policy and blaming them for the 6-8 Nuclear Weapons North Korea now has while bragging about the deals the Clinton Administration made..

Yeah that’s something not to brag about as it’s the Clinton Administration’s fault North Korea has Nuclear Weapons in the first place, or doesn’t Madeleine Albright having drinks with Kim Jong Il sealing the deal which allowed North Korea to continue it’s Nuclear program in secret ring any bells?

Brah on July 6, 2006 at 12:12 PM

Man, when Wolf Blitzer is taking you to the woodshed for being too out of touch on a communist dictator, you’re in pretty sorry shape. Uncle Ted is either senile or just plain stupid.

thirteen28 on July 6, 2006 at 12:15 PM

Michelle’s line that Russia and China opposed the launches is just one side of the story. The links above show that neither state supports sanctioning NKorea for their actions. Why? Because it fits their agenda. They have no fear of being targeted by Kim, but it’s Japan and the US that is being threatened here. Everyone knows this. You’ll never see sanctions against Kim as long as Russia and China can block or veto it.

Did anyone notice how nice and clean the environment appeared during the little dance segment by the guy and two girls? I wonder if they filmed it in SKorea or if they keep some part of the state clean and pollution free for the elite?

One thing I’ve been exasperated with is the slow, measured voices of those who “deplore” the launches. If Hollywood was on our side, instead of these stentorian, slow speaking talking heads, we would see some fast paced insulting jokes about Kim’s failure to keep his “missiles” erect. Ridicule is one of the most effective weapons against tyrants. Too bad the media and entertainment elite are on the other side….

Dont forget the 50 Nobel { Laureates | IDIOTS } who siged the letter below (details: ):

July 6, 2000

President William Jefferson Clinton

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Washington, DC 20502

Dear Mr. President:

We urge you not to make the decision to deploy an anti-ballistic missile system during the remaining months of your administration. The system would offer little protection and would do grave harm to this nation’s core security interests.

We and other independent scientists have long argued that anti-ballistic missile systems, particularly those attempting to intercept reentry vehicles in space, will inevitably lose in an arms race of improvements to offensive missiles.

North Korea has taken dramatic steps toward reconciliation with South Korea. Other dangerous states will arise. But what would such a state gain by attacking the United States except its own destruction?

While the benefits of the proposed anti-ballistic missile system are dubious, the dangers created by a decision to deploy are clear. It would be difficult to persuade Russia or China that the United States is wasting tens of billions of dollars on an ineffective missile system against small states that are unlikely to launch a missile attack on the U.S. The Russians and Chinese must therefore conclude that the presently planned system is a stage in developing a bigger system directed against

them. They may respond by restarting an arms race in ballistic missiles and having missiles in a dangerous “launch-on-warning” mode.

Even if the next planned test of the proposed anti-ballistic missile system works as planned, any movement toward deployment would be premature, wasteful and dangerous.

Yes, I have intelligent friends in Europe. They bemoan the fact that their main TV stations on July 4th showed ever so briefly the launch of Discovery and Lil’ Kim’s adventures and then focused 99% on the fact that Germany lost to Italy in soccer.

Only an Iranian test which lands on top of them will wake them up.

How sad that Ted Turner is in the same league with Cindy Sheehan.

Entelechy on July 6, 2006 at 12:43 PM

Ewwww…. but you don’t see the evil pran that is being hatched….

NK is stealing Chinese trains… who will steal them from Russia… who will steal dem from Europe… so America can’t use them to ship tanks around….

Its arrr part of de evel pran…

and don’t bother me….. can’t you see how busy I am…

Ted obviously rode to the interview on the short bus.

pubscout on July 6, 2006 at 1:02 PM

Michelle & the Hot Air crew,

Since the Left loves to “time warp” back to the 60s and early 70s, how about we “time warp” back to the 80s and dig up some clips of the MSM and the Left making fun of Reagan’s “Star Wars”? Didn’t that program plant the seeds for the missile defense systems we have (or are developing) today?

It’d be interesting if Mr. Turner were found to be on record back then about this subject.

Oh, and when I saw Halfbright step off that plane, I suddenly had a vision of Helen Thomas walking the red carpet. Ooooh, my eyes!

Dave Shay on July 6, 2006 at 1:33 PM

I like the Team America portrayal of Ding Dong Il.

pjcomix on July 6, 2006 at 1:52 PM

For a long time I’ve theorized that ultimately the hostility and jealousy of much of the world boils down to a bad case of penis envy.

It seems so obvious. The Europeans prance around soccer fields hugging each other maniacally and crying when the man in tight shorts shows them a shiny colored card. In the Middle East, they keep their women in burlap bags and kill over cartoons.

It’s all Freudian. It all comes down to sex. I’m sure of it.

And, well … we’re just, um, packing a lot more power under the hood than the rest of these sissies, if you catch my drift.

In the end, it’s all penile. Ask Bob Dole.

Did anyone actually NOT notice the fact that Kim Jong Needs-a-chill-pill’s short range rocket (emphasis on short) is called the “No Dong?”

No dong? Hmmm. Not coincidental, my friends.

Clearly my penis envy theory has some validity.

For more on Kim Jong’s penile issues (or lack thereof), here’s some additional information on the dongless missile program:

You would have thought they’d have named the longer range “Taepodong-2” missile something more … robust? Virile? But then I realized that “taepo” is obviously the Korean word for robust, virile, and very long.

By the way, they may try to launch another longdong missile. I heard they’re consulting with Rush Limbaugh on their, um, launch problems.

On a more serious note … it’s worth remembering that every mad dictator in history has had his own nodong issues. Ask Eva Braun.

Or Theresa Heinz-Kerry. We dodged a bullet on that one. A very small bullet.

To summarize: Tommy Lee will almost certainly be solely responsible for the inevitable launch of North Korean longdong missiles at L.A. Because Kim Illin’ (like Osama, John Kerry, and Cindy Sheehan) is simply obsessed with the injustice of our enormity. If you know what I mean. No one ever listens to Freud until its too late.

I’ll close by giggling and saying once more: “no dong.”

That’s funny. Right, Beavis?

Professor Blather on July 6, 2006 at 3:29 PM

Said it before.. I’ll say it again…

Just goes to proove that yer Dong can get ya in trouble…

Romeo13 on July 6, 2006 at 3:38 PM

Professor Blather, after the election (I meant election and not erection :), the lady changed her name back to Theresa Heinz. She is no longer hyphenated.

Entelechy on July 6, 2006 at 3:42 PM

Scott G, N. Korea is very good at making sure westerners see only what they want, and they do keep certain areas in pristine condition, just for media consumption. Having see the “Freedom” village at the DMZ (from a mile away, the closest you can get without drawing fire) they try and make it seem like a paradise…till you peel away the thin layer of polish and expose the rot under. I do feel sorry for the citizens of that realm, they live in a land Orwell would be shocked at.

jcon96 on July 6, 2006 at 3:54 PM

Heh heh. Prof said ‘penis’. Heh heh.

dalewalt on July 6, 2006 at 4:38 PM

Blather, the Tae bo dong missile was just an exercise.

If Kim Jong Il’s missiles are just big dongs, what does that say about our desire to intercept them with our, um, missiles? Is America gay?

Sure Kim’s projectiles exploded prematurely, but our missiles used to be called Minutemen…

Vanya on July 6, 2006 at 4:54 PM

Best Vent yet. That’s one for the highlight reel. Important subject, the right tone, and interesting footage I’d never seen before.

see-dubya on July 6, 2006 at 5:02 PM

No Dong? No problem!

Interesting newsday, yesterday.

Joe on July 6, 2006 at 5:05 PM

Ok, we all know Kim Jong Il is a wacko, but what do you propose we do about him?

Vanya on July 6, 2006 at 5:06 PM

Blather, the Tae bo dong missile was just an exercise.

That’s pretty funny.

If Kim Jong Il’s missiles are just big dongs, what does that say about our desire to intercept them with our, um, missiles? Is America gay?

Also funny. Strangely homo-erotic, but funny.

Sure Kim’s projectiles exploded prematurely, but our missiles used to be called Minutemen…

And that was funniest of all. Who went and replaced Vanya with someone with wit and intelligence? Next BetterOffBlue will show up and say something relevant and insightful.

By the way, Vanya …. we also had MX-1’s and Titan’s. Now them’s some manly missiles.

As for your question – what do we do with our penis-envy-having friend? Well … his fate seems obvious, doesn’t it?

Sooner or later, he’s going to have a meeting with some American made munitions. Probably sooner rather than later.

The only real question is how soon – and whether liberals will insist that we suffer casualties before doing what will have to be done.

Alternatively, we could let him live a long, healthy life, and use people like Ted Turner and Cindy Sheehan as mockeries of liberalism when the sing his praises …? I like that one, too.

But I wouldn’t take a large wager on Lil’ Kim still breathing a decade from now. One way or another.

To be semi-serious for half a second: that regime is unsupportable. No totalitarian regime can remain in power long. When the people get hungry enough – or he gets dangerous enough – he’ll be done.

It’s really too bad we can’t deal with it now. We should. A lot of lives would be saved. But politics won’t let it happen.

Professor Blather on July 6, 2006 at 5:31 PM

If you thought that was funny … did you see THIS one linked on the same page?

If ever wondered what blogging liberals and DU posters were REALLY like … well, here you go. Do not – I repeat, do not – be drinking anything when the tape starts. One look and you’ll spit up all over your keyboard.

I give you …. a classic prototype liberal:

Professor Blather on July 6, 2006 at 5:33 PM

Professor Blather, what’s ironic is the subtitle of the ad on “Pirats of the Caribbean”, above the video you sent (with the fat leftie). It reads “Dead Man’s Chest” :)

Entelechy on July 6, 2006 at 5:51 PM

“Dead Man’s Chest” …. Ha! Yeah … did you see him puffing a cigarette? His heart attack is due in 5 … 4 … 3…

That guy just cracked me up. I’m actually wondering now if he was doing a parody of a liberal. Because if he was for real … well, then he’s the funniest thing ever.

Best line of his rant: “I don’t know why we LET him talk for hours a day …”

Um, maybe its the First Amendment? Sheesh. Why don’t any liberals believe in liberal ideas any more? No free speech. Racism as policy. Avoid all intellectual diversity. Liberalism today has a startling resemblence to Stalinism.

See how I threw that in there to make this comment almost on topic?

Professor Blather on July 6, 2006 at 5:57 PM

The largest Pentacostal Church in the world is in S. Korea.
The most internet connected nation in the world is S. Korea.
One of the most richest nations in the Asia is S. Korea.
North Korea is the most godless, isolated, and starving nation in the world.
Same people, same language, same customs and same heritage but different systems of government.
We need to finish the Korean War 1950-?

Joe on July 6, 2006 at 8:13 PM

We can hope that Dictators are a dying breed. Whether it’s Chavez in Venezuela, Kim Jong Ill in North Korea, Castro in Cuba, whatever:the world is getting smaller and better connected, and as populations hear about the freedoms available in other countries, dictators will no longer be able to keep them in chains of ignorance. It’s no wonder that the North Korean dictator keeps an iron fist on the media in his country-if people knew what was happening there, and if the North Koreans better knew the outside world,Kim Jong Ill would have been overthrown years ago. People love Freedom. Look for Korea to be reunited as a free country someday, just has happened with Germany. This current missle-rattling may be the undoing of his regime by focusing the world’s attention on North Korea.

Doug on July 7, 2006 at 9:26 AM

I went to grad school with tons of Asians. However, each year there would only be one North Korean added to the class.

Even Communist China would send over some 20 to 30 for my department alone. This stat is telling, I’m sure.
