Shalit hostage deadline less than three hours away (Unconfirmed: Shalit to be released)

Time runs out at 11 p.m. ET (6 a.m. in Israel). Olmert said this morning that he won’t negotiate. The kidnappers already bluffed once; Debka thinks they’re good for one more. Keep an eye on this post later for updates. In the meantime, the IDF surrounded a police station in Ramallah where Eliahu Asheri’s killers were being held and got them to surrender after a three-hour standoff.

Army Radio reported … that an armed group in Gaza, “the Army of Islam,” announced nearly one half hour after the deadline passed “from now on no new information would be given,” regarding Shalit.
Update: Israel National News quotes Al Hayat as saying Shalit will be handed over to France or Egypt in return for the Gaza operation being called off and Hamas leaders arrested this week being set free.

This is horribly sad, but if I were head of the IDF, my path would seem clear.
Statement: We will start demolishing all buildings close to our border. Stay in those buildings if you wish to die, leave if you are in favor of living. We’ll start will all buildings within one mile of our border. If our son is returned, we will leave. If he is returned dead, we will increase the destruction to all buildings within 5 miles from our border, and then leave. Should he not be returned at all, we will increase the building removal radius by 1 mile a day, until you give him to us (+5 miles if he is dead).
Petulant children need to be smacked. Otherwise they remain petulant. Help the palestinians grow up, Israel. Please! We can’t do it from anywhere else in the world. Israel is our only hope for forcing the palestinians into the real world. The only other option is continued death and destruction.

I am yet to understand why Israel cannot prosecute all out war and take the Gaza strip. What actually constitutes the right to wage war these days? How foul does one have to be as a society? If Palestine seeks war let them get what they seek and when they lose they lose. No more giving back the territory they risked in waging war. The people would end up with better treatment under Jewish rule than they currently get under Hamas rule. Who in fact declared that the borders of the world are forever stable?

I am waiting for the outrage from liberal groups who would be concerned that violent themes on television might cause children to grow up to be mass murderers. …Oh, wait…Jihad is only an internal struggle against evil and these are only metaphorical statements against the Jews. In that case I guess this isn’t so different from Reading Rainbow or Barney.

Hmm, I’m going to have to rethink my position. I had thought that hamas were the bad guys. Now that I’ve seen your video, I see that the jews are people of treachery, betrayal, and vileness. Nevermind that the palestinians are the ones who consistenly betray and murder, it’s the jews. Jooooooooooos!
It’s kind of hard to blame the palestinians for acting crazy when you see what their children’s programming is like.

No, not because they hate the Jews, but because of what they are doing to their children – exactly the same thing that was done to themselves when they were but children. There is only one way to stop this, and I think we all know exactly what that is.
Unless Muhammad comes back some time soon and straightens out the Children of Allah, then It’ll be up to the rest of the world to purge Islam of these hate-mongering clerics. If Allah is truely the God we all worship – only by another name – He certainly did not mean for this flock to be so bent.
